Celebrate You: Dress Up For Life!

I'm re-visiting some archived posts from when I had roughly 20 followers or so. Re-hashing life lessons and things I just feel like sharing with anyone who may have missed them. I've gone back and made minor changes... i.e. corrected grammar, and added bits here and there. Hopefully you'll enjoy it! ♥

Someone asked me today why I was so dressed up. Actually, they asked "What's the occassion?" I replied with a casual "Just because. I am the occassion."

We all go through that slump at some point in the year... where sweatshirts become more acceptable than they ever should, we roll out of bed and we're lucky if we manage to look in the mirror before grabbing the car keys. and for a lot of us, including me, it's when the wintertime months roll around. It's almost as if we stop making the effort. BUT WHY?

Maybe you broke up with your boyfriend (how we can relate!), maybe you lost your job (stupid economy!), maybe you flunked your econ-midterm (no one enjoys econ anyway)... you're in a funk.

But what we fail to see is how dressing up can improve your mood. so you ditched your dude! big deal! Its not like there aren't 3 billion other men on the planet! You flunked that final exam?! Exam schexam. It's just one tiny tiny blip on the radar. you will survive all of these things... and if you're gonna survive it, you might as well look good doing it.

Wake up tomorrow and put on your best dress. "Whats the occasion?" YOU ARE THE OCCASION. Wear some funky bright eyeshadow. "What if it doesn't look good?" Well, at least you'll know now won't you?! Do something you haven't done before. "Like what?" Put on the fanciest dress you own, curl your hair, curl your lashes, and go the laundromat! Go get ice cream! Dress up and go to McDonalds! It doesnt matter what! You don't need an special occasion to live your life extraordinarily... Be confident. Be bold. Why the hell not right?!

It's all about your attitude. It doesn't matter what cards you're dealt in life... It's all about how you choose to play them. You are not a victim. You are the victor. Make life abide by YOUR rules for once.

You don't need an excuse to be fabulous. It was built into your system. It's just who you are. YOU ARE FABULOUS!

Be amazing and be okay with it. (and make everyone notice it, too!)

Celebrate you!

What is your most favorite outfit to wear? Share with us! Describe it in full detail so we can take in just how fabulous it really is!

(I know there are many of us who will agree when we say we feel our prettiest after a nice long workout or just lounging around in pajamas, but no one can deny the fact that sometimes a really nice dress or a shiny pair of shoes is all it takes to transport us and our attitudes into a world of fabulosity [as Kimora Lee Simmons would say….] I hope you all take the chance to put a little pep in your step and switch things up a little! Even if you're not a dress kinda gal... try a new lipstick or wear your hair differently! Paint your nails the brightest color you can find! Do something that makes people take notice of you! It doesn't just have to be about your outward appearance and looking "pretty" for other people... Don't be afraid to feel pretty for YOU!)

ps; i think you're amazing!

  3. P.S. You're amazing! I love your thoughts on this and couldn't agree more. Example of how this is true:

One day this spring, my honey & I were getting ready to go out. I was feeling blase and tired. As I changed out of flips into heels, "You don't have to wear those for me, honey, if you're tired" he said. "I'm putting them on for me silly," says me. I then explained that putting on pretty shoes puts a pep in my step, and that him enjoying them on my feet is just a side-effect.

Anyway, this post is a total fav & I thank you for putting it out there. : )

  5. i totally love this. i remember when i was in college, people would always ask me, "what's the occasion?" "what are you so dressed up for?" i was always confused, because i didn't feel THAT dressed up... i just wore what made me feel good. :) and that's key... if you wear clothes that make you feel pretty your whole day and outlook can completely change. it's amazing.

  6. This is my favorite post of yours, mostly because people have asked me this same question countless times. I love to dress up! I love the routine of getting up and doing my hair/ putting on makeup/ just gettin' pretty. It makes me feel like a lady, as old fashioned as it sounds. My favorite outfit is a boatneck nautical stripe tee with a tight high-waisted pencil skirt, kitten heels and my handy dandy trench coat (I think the whole outfit is from H&M..). It makes me feel put together, retro and all together jazzy.

Keep doing what you're doing, KB. :)

  8. I love this post! I completely agree with your sentiments.

Last semester in school one of my friends asked "Why do you have to look so good all the time? You make me look even worse!" (She'd wear nothing but sweats and yoga wear.) I told her I did it because it made me feel good. There is a spring in my step and I feel more confident when I do, so I keep it up!
I definitely feel out of place most times, and get some strange looks when I show up to school in a dress but I just ignore them. Why should I care about what someone in jeans (or sweats) and a t-shirt think anyways?! Haha.

I also blog about my outfits here:

  9. I love this post. I totally understand how it improves your mood! My closet switched from band tees to dresses and I feel great getting dolled up! I definitely get in slumps still, but this post will be good inspiration!

  10. Oh my goodness, you have no idea how much I relate to this! Every day, without fail, someone will ask me where I'm going that's so special. I suppose because I live in such a small town it's a little out-of-the-ordinary to see someone as "dressed up" as me, but honestly, I just adore clothes too much to not take advantage of all the amazing ones that I have!

Once I finish high school, I plan on posting photos of my outfits to my blog (LookBook just annoys me), and I can only hope to get the kind of amazing responses you get! You're an inspiration, girl!

  11. Well I'm redying my hair in the next week or so as my premature greys are spreading :( lol.

I always feel silly for dressing up - I work in a little office and trousers and a t-shirt are fine - most Mondays I can't be bothered to get out of bed so I sling on what I come to first that looks semi smart lol.

I need to change my attitude and do something.

  13. "Just because. I am the occassion."

I love that so much! I will have to keep that in mind.

My favourite outfit is a strapless black denim dress. It's absolutely adorable! I pair it with a big chunky white belt and black flats...Ugh, I feel like a doll. Dresses are the most amazing things. They make me feel so good.

  14. Kaelah, thank you so much for your fun and optimistic blog! Sometimes you take the words right out of my heart and put them on the screen.
I bought jeggings a few weeks ago and wore them for the first time today. I thought, hey its just fashion. If I really look terrible it's a tiny moment in my life and no one else will remember it in a week. I felt fantastic! You've also inspired me to branch out into more dress shopping. Just got one that I want to wear every day.
I love your blog. And I love hearing about happy southern life!

  15. I try to do this every day. Sometimes I actually think "I'm all dressed up with no where to go". haha.

I hope I have a bunch of followers someday :D

    I've got 28 right now.

  16. I love this post! It's a year old, but I'm reading it at such a fitting time in my life.

My favorite outfit has to be a black pencil skirt with a black turtleneck and my favorite Barefeet witchy booties. Throwing on red lipstick with that outfit makes me feel like I'm in some sort of old movie or I'm about to look awesome running down vamps.
