Things I Love Thursday: BFF Tattoos

This week is short and sweet thanks to my spotty and almost non-existant internet connection here in Indy. Susannah and I celebrated Tuesday (and you know, like, our friendship) with BFF tattoos while on our trip. We looked up a few shops and decided to head over to Irish Ink on Mass Ave to check it out. Turns out it was perfect time to squeeze in two walk-ins so an hour later we were getting stenciled up.

SB and I have been planning on doing this for ages but we'd never just done it. We also didn't know what we wanted to do. We knew we wanted something silly but sentimental, and we toyed with a bunch of ideas for a while. We finally came up with this one while drinking New Old Ladies (totes our drink). It really just seemed appropriate. Silly enough for us, but still special. And it can stand on it's own.

Ben McQueen at Irish Ink did them for us, and we were/are stoked on them. Susannah and I have decided to make our girls trips an annual thing so hopefully we'll have plenty of other silly tattoos, photos and stories to add over time.

The tattoos are totally doofy and you're probably all side-eyein' us right now. But I'm super happy we were able to make it happen. Love that girlllllll.

Today I'm on the road, headed back to Nashville to a house full of silly boys and sassy pups. It's been a super awesome trip and I'll definitely do a recap shortly. I'm sending off a roll or two of film today so I'll have to wait to get that back. Anyway, happy Thursday!

Any of y'all got a BFF tattoo? What of/where?

I actually have a few matching tattoos: diamonds with my sister http://tinyurl.com/cs3v5xq, the outline of Florida with a heart over Tampa with two friends http://tinyurl.com/cc2pxh5, and a scarab with the cheat code from the Sega Aladdin game (lol) with my brother http://tinyurl.com/c9qr5fb. 18. I have two friends who have the most adorable BFF tattoos. One has a tea cup and the other a tea pot. They are beautifully patterned, and when they hold hands it looks like the tea pot is pouring into the cup.

  19. LOVE them!! I love that is says new, old lady!
My husband and I got mourning dove feather tattoos last year. I wanted a wedding tattoo but didn't want our names used or anything typical because I felt like that was one big JINX. So we opted with the feathers that belong to a bird who stay together for life.

  25. Super cute! My bff and I took a trip to Santa Barbara when she was extremely sick and we didn't know if she would make it. We popped in a tattoo shop much like you did and both got the celtic "everlasting love" knot. Mine is on my inner forearm and hers is on her wrist. She pulled out of her sickness thankfully and we are still bffs. :) We even own houses around the corner from each other now!

  26. My BF and I have matching number 1 bands around our arms. We weren't really planning them, but I wanted mine done, and he didn't have any tattoos, so jumped in and got it too. I love that they are really subtle, and most people don't even notice that we both have them.

  28. Aww, your new tattoos are adorbs!

Haha, my bff wants us to get matching tattoos so badly, but I'm a stick-in-the-mud. Too picky and fickle and scared of pain to do that just yet... She got a tattoo of a drawing of mine, though! Um, so my tattoo is there ~in spirit. ;)

  29. That was such a cute post!!! :) I really love the sentiment behind the tattoos as well!

I got a tattoo done about 2 months ago with my BFF and we had a key. We both designed a key and then got the tattoo guy to incorporate both designs into one and we both love them! :) Xx

  33. My best friend and I have matching butterfly tattoos on our wrists. The story behing them is that her mum sadly died when she was a really really little girl, for a few reasons the family has always believed that her mum is now a white butterfly, (who would always turn up when mum's shouldn't!!) Becca would be having a sneaky smoke outside somewhere and her mum would keep flying around us. When we were on private land her mum would fly around us again and we'd instantly re-think what we were doing. Although I never met her mum, whenever I see a white butterfly I always say "Hello Hilary!" and give her a little wave!
Best friend tattoos are the best!

  39. This is so cute! I'm terribly nervous to get a tattoo, so I kind of live vicariously through all of my friends that get them, haha. I love the photo of you on your phone like "Psh, no big deal." Girl, you are my tattoo idol. :)

  40. That's so super cute! I have two BFF's - one of them is working with me on puzzle pieces that fit together but have designs/art bursting out of them that match our individual personalities. The other BFF and I have semi-matching tattoos - I went and got a XIII tattoo on Friday the 13th for my 13th tattoo. While I was getting mine, he was at the sister shop in another city getting a XIII with a four leaf clover. It was only his third tattoo, though. XIII is just our lucky number, and makes us think of each other. ♥

  43. Oh gosh, I love these!
My best friend and I have been planning our BFF tattoos for a while, too! We're big Nightmare Before Christmas fans, so ours will probably be from the movie. :)

  45. I love it! One of my friends got a bff tattoo with one of our other friends and I asked her what we would get if we got one done. I mentioned we should get a classic pin up of a Waffle House waitress because that was where we use to hang out all the time and how became close friends. I know I said it as a joke but I kind of want one now. Don't know if we ever will but I wouldn't say no if she wanted too lol.

  53. I do! I do! Almost a year ago right before I moved across the country away from my best friend we went and got tattoos together. It's a power symbol that looks like a brand or embedded under our skin. Because we met in art school and both ended up working at a bank together for a while. We felt like robots so we thought a power switch would be appropriate.

  54. Love it :)

Me and my fella have "matching tattoos". He's totally covered, and I only have a few very large, but hidden, tattoos. He got a green star and I got a green moon. Our night skies wouldn't be the same without each other :). We've now took to booking full days of tattooing a year in advance so we can get more and more, as the place we love to go gets booked up months in advance ><.

Love seeing the tattoos, very inspiring :) so nice to see lovely young ladies in pretty dresses, with great morals and tonnes of tattoos.
