Neon Frontier

I've never been a neon person. Never. Like, I detested the entire fluorescent color spectrum. I'm just not really a "bold" color person. Well, until recently. Something clicked and I honestly think it was because of this bag. I branched out with LuLu*s and went for something I never would've normally picked myself due to the color, but I loved the structure, shape, and size of the bag. It was like opening a package that had exploded with highlighter. Then all of a sudden I was buying neon nail polish and wearing the bag everywhere. I think I transformed into a new person overnight. (Such an exaggerated account of not liking neon and then kind of loving it, but hey, it's true!) I've been wearing the bag with literally everything, even pastels and bold prints. Probably a huge fashion faux pas on my end but decided to try and play up the color by wearing a mostly black and white outfit. I haven't worn this dress in over a year so it was nice to break it free from the confines of my closet, though I bet it'll make the next Kaelah's Closet round to be honest.
I asked Mike how he'd feel if I had pink hair for our wedding. Like I mentioned in my last outfit post, something about pink just makes me feel slightly more alive. It'd match our wedding decor and my dress perfectly, but I'll probably tame it down a ton. I've actually been toying with the idea of going back brunette for the big day, but I'm terrified it'll end up almost black like last time! I haven't been to an actual hair stylist in almost seven years! I'm so scared to let someone else touch it. If I screw it up, oh well, that's on me. But I hate giving that control to someone else! haha I'm a big baby about it. Plus I have no clue how I'll wear my hair for the wedding, or what kind of hair piece/veil I'll have. I'm really leaving it to the 11th hour, I know.
I'm slowly but surely getting back into the swing of things since getting home from our little trip. The film is in the mail and hopefully I'll have scans in about two weeks or so. I'll do a little rundown on what we did, where we went/ate/shopped soon though. Until then you can always check out Susannah's Tuesday Recap if you want! She's a way better storyteller than I am. I didn't even remember doing half of that stuff! haha Horrible memory makes for a sometimes horrible blogger, sorry!

Alright kids, I've got a date day at the park with my two boys. Off I go! Happy Saturday! xo

    2. P.S. Alright sorry for the comment bombardment... but I just thought of another thing. Do you read Rock N Roll Bride (http://www.rocknrollbride.com/)? There are tons of awesome pink haired brides on there... including Kat Williams, the blogger herself!

    3. He initially was not really into it. He said he loves my brown hair and the whole "natural" aspect of our wedding, but we've been talking more about something "fun" for the big day so who knows what we'll end up doing!

  7. I used to have a neon orange long sleeved t-shirt when I was about 13. Since then I've learned that bright colours don't have to be blinding and I actually really like deeper or washed out colours these days. I've been seeing this neon trend for a while now, but I'm still not into it. I don't think it's going to happen if I haven't come around after a few months yet.

  8. Love how you tied in the neon with your bag, belt, and necklace! You look so perfectly coordinated, as always. I haven't really gotten on board with neon (although I do love bold colors) quite yet, but if I were to join the trend, it would definitely be a pop of color against black and white, just like this. =)

  10. Love your bag! I ordered a neon yellow bag a while ago & had to send it back b.c it was too hard (for me) to wear. Love this bag with the black/brown details.

  17. What a cute dress! I love the addition of the neon.
I can totally understand your initial dislike of neon.
I like seeing neon on most people but it's just not something I plan on wearing anytime soon.

  18. I'm not so fond of all of the neon going on everywhere haha. I could live with hot pink and orange but I don't really like plain yellow, let alone neon yellow haha. But I have to say, if it's toned down with black and white, it looks alright, it's just not for me I guess.

  20. I noticed your awesome pink nails! I have the same color and love it, and honestly love, i hate going to the hairstylists as well I always do my own hair, but when something important is coming up or I want to do something drastic but scared of doing it on my own, my hairstylist can get it perfect. I'd shop around for a good hair place, good reputation, happy clients because they usually know what they are doing and if you say you want dark brown but NOT BLACK i'm sure they could figure out the perfect solution for you :) but hey, do you what you feel is best.

  21. I really like your pink hair. It suits you so well! I agree with the other comments about having it pink for you wedding. It would be so much fun!

I have actually just put some aqua highlights in my hair and am in love with them. I would do my entire head but my hubby said no because of me trying to find a job, boo!

Anyways, I think this outfit is super cute! Neon's can be so much fun! ♥

  24. I love your pink wig so much! Either pink or brunette would be great for the wedding! You could always get your hair died brown soon and if it doesn't work you'd have time to fix it before the wedding. Just an idea. ;) I know whatever you do will be GORGEOUS! <3

Hope you're having a great weekend so far!

  25. I was JUST talking about this on Twitter last night!!! I've never thought of myself as a neon person, never really "liked" neon - but than I realized, certain clothing I pick out and certain mood outfits, have neon in them and I LOVE IT! Sadly, I don't own those outfits. :P You look gorgeous!

  29. I'm exactly the same as you were about neon! This looks great though so maybe I'll have to take the plunge :). I think with your hair you need something you're happy with and something that'll feel comfortable for the big day.

  32. Love the post. I too, have been slower to the neon trend, typically hating all neon colors! But I have come around too, typically incorporating one neon piece with a black and white skirt/dress (like you!). Just wanted to say great post and I love the outfit because it's not neon overload!!!

  34. The pink hair is so cute! It would be pretty brave, but adorable for your wedding. Maybe you could do dip-dyed ends with blonde hair? I don't know if that's too "trendy", but it'd be a cute look. So excited to see how it all turns out! :)

  35. I'm the same way about neons. I tend to like them for jewelry and home decor sometimes, but I don't wear them often. I just don't feel like I can pull them off, ya know? You're totally rocking that bag though, I think it looks great paired with your outfit!

I think pink hair for your wedding would be so sweet. :)

  36. Oh la la! Looking absolutely gorgeous on this outfit, love love love you on the last picture! I wish I dared wearing neon, it's just not for me. The crochet detail of the cardigan makes it super unique.
Can't wait to see the pictures from your trip! xx

  37. I'm not a neon person either, but I found myself buying small bits as I found I love the contrast with muted colours, things like nail varnish, belts and bags. So I love your bag with the muted outfit!

I know what your mean about going to the hairdressers too, since mine was butchered by an idiot stylist two years ago, I haven't been to one since!
Is your pink hair dyed or is it a hairpiece? I would love to dye mine pink but as am naturally dark am unsure if it would work, so was wondering what your process is...

  40. i think pink hair would be AWESOME for the wedding. and may i suggest a veil/hairpiece person? tessa kim on etsy has the most amazing things. I got my veil and little hair fascintor there and i love them - i still wear the fascinator from time to time because it wasn't so bridal i couldn't.

and i love this outfit. i too am afraid of the neon thing. some part of my sister is in the back of my head still telling me i can't wear neon colors (remember in the 90s when neon was really cool?). but i do love this bag. i think bags scare me less than a dress or shoes. and this dress, by the way? looks great on you!

  41. Oh you just look so adorable, as ever!I can only imagine how beautiful your wedding will be.

Where do you get your wigs now? I just never know what sellers to go for on ebay and yours always looks top notch!

  42. Can I give you an unpopular opinion?

I would say go brown for your wedding. You look amazing with that really rich brown color (not saying you don't look beautiful in any other color, you do). The brown is of course more natural and would fit your "theme" better, and I don't know...you maybe/probably feel differently but although the wig is cute I think it kind of distracts from your face. If you want the pink hair and can't decide, why not take photos before or after with the pink?

Sorry, just my unwarranted two cents!! And I'm only giving them because I have regrets about my own wedding photos - I had WHITE hair, like, as white as my dress and a few months after the wedding (after years of it being platinum) I colored it back to a more natural blonde and realized how much better/healthier I looked - I felt beautiful then, but now kind of wish I'd looked more natural on my wedding day.

    1. Some people love being natural on their wedding day, but if you want to go all out, then by golly do so. It's a person's big day!

I know I am going all out on mine because I can't have black and purple hair at work. Might as well do it for a special occasion such as my wedding, especially since I want to dye my hair right now so bad as it is!

  44. I share the unpopular opinion. I love the brunette on you. You have suuuuch a pretty skintone, and while I LOVE the pink on you and you are gorgeous in every hair color I have seen you in (I have been lurking your blog for a while, haha.) I think the brunette really brings out the warmth in your skintone. However, I am in love with your red hair, too. So if you stayed that color I think it would be pretty as well.

Noooow. If you do decide to go brunette just remember your final hair color is a combination of what you have on your head now + the artificial pigment you use. If you have red hair and want a neutral brown, you are going to have to find a brown that has green undertones to neutralize that red. (Sounds like the color of baby poop, I know....) Also, color can not lift color. If you are depositing color on top of color it is going to be darker which is why your brunette probably ended up soooo dark before. Hair color is described on levels 1-10, 1 being the darkest. If you don't want to use a color with a developer, such as a permanent color, then opt for a semi-permanent that is a level lighter than what you have now. Because it is going to look darker on your head. And if you still think it is too light it is better to re-do with a semi-permanent than to have it too dark and have to lift it with a permanent and cause more damage later. Does any of that make sense? This is the longest comment ever. Sorry!

  45. If pink hair makes you feel alive, then do so on your wedding day. It'll bring out your true happiness, which can show on all the pictures that will be taken. Also, if you're more on pink, I know you'll be glad you stuck with it on your big day. Just your decision though! :]

  47. I love the pink hair, but I would go with brunette for your wedding day. It looks so nice with your skin tone and it'll be classic when you look back at your wedding pictures 30 years from now. I would research and find a highly recommended hair stylist. One that understands color and has a lot of positive feedback. My mom (who is a hairdresser) colors my hair, so I haven't experienced any horrible dye jobs in my days, but I'm sure there are other hairdressers who know what they're doing too! It would be worth it to have it professionally done for your wedding since it's such a special day. But make sure to do it early enough in case you don't like it. And get a practice styling if you're going to get it styled!
I can't wait to see your wedding pictures!
