BFF TRIP : Packing Edition

I'll admit that these photos are a bit sub-par, but I thought I'd share what I'm packing for my Indianapolis trip with Susannah this week, along with the playlist that I'm going to be exhausting on the 5 hour drive up!

(Packing list: Dresses (l to r): yellow + taupe dress c/o Eshakti, Dorothy Perkins, Ross, Ross, Blue Juice via Stitch Fix, c/o Speedy Girl, Ross, H&M -- Shirts + Jackets: lace + chambray shirt c/o SheInside, H&M, Wet Seal, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, H&M -- Shoes: Idas c/o BAIT, Jeffrey Campbell Lita Spikes, black wedges c/o Blowfish, MIA Jukebox wedges -- Bags: Epiphanie camera bag gifted from Adobe, Michael Kors Gansevoort Tote, Akira clutch -- Various belts + beauty products -- Nikon F4 + film)

If you can't already tell, I'm a chronic over-packer. 8 dresses for 4 days? Well, I like to be prepared! It's kind of counterproductive for me to even pack when I go on trips like these because I like to go shopping since I've saved my money and I'll always end up wearing the dresses/stuff that I bought, ya know? Then I just come home with a lot of wrinkled clothes that never should've left the hanger!

I'm not taking a digital camera with me so I'm relying solely on shooting film for the trip. I thought it'd be fun to snap a few photos and see how they turned out a few weeks later. Reallllly trying to get in the habit of constantly snapping away.

We're planning on doing a lot of different stuff while we're in Indianapolis like go to the Indiana State Fair, Circle Centre (always!), thrifting, find some fun restaurants/cafes/bars and hopefully some really great boutiques. I wanted to be prepared for whatever we might get into so I've got wedges, flats, cardigans, clutches and dresses galore. It really just sounds like I'm trying to justify my overflowing bag haha Don't forget a million different belts. A blogger's version of Portlandia: Put a belt on it.

I created a playlist on Spotify that I can listen to (over and over and over) on my way up tomorrow. Here it is below. If this playlist doesn't make you want to dance then I just don't really want to be your friend. ;)

So do any of you have any suggestions on things we should do/see or places we should go while in Indianapolis? We'll be there Monday-Thursday so give us some suggestions! We're excited!

  8. You're coming to my hometown ;) Definitely check out the Flying Cupcake, the Girly Chic Boutique in Broad Ripple, Haus in Broad Ripple, Broad Ripple Vintage, the Castleton mall just got a brand new HUGE forever 21. Also the circle centre For Love accessory store is a must! Best macarons in town are at the city market downtown at Circle City Sweets :) its a great market too with tons of awesome places for lunch. Everyone loves going to city market for Papa Roux too! Holliday Park in broad ripple is one of the most fun and beautiful spots in Indy. Great places for pictures. Google it! You'll see why :) there are lots of faux Greek statues and this huge monument. It's really unique and really close to a lot of shopping. Seriously there is so much to do. Luna has a lot of awesome film photography stuff!

    2. I was reading comments and I was like, who is this telling Kaelah to go everywhere I was going to tell her to go? haha, of course it's you! =]

So I second everything that Violet said! I live in Broad Ripple and we have a ton of great restaurants and cute shops, and once you park you can walk around quite a bit and not have to move your car. =]

    3. I'm not sure if my first comment went through, but I was going to give basically the same list as Violet just did!

Make sure you check out all the cute shops and restaurants in Broad Ripple! You can park and then walk around, and probably spend an hour or two just going through the shops.

If you like beer the Broad Ripple Brewpub (which is actually right down the road from my apartment, I go there pretty often!) is really good, and we also have two really good coffee shops: Monon Coffee and Perk Up.

  11. I'm a huge overpacker as well. You just never know when you'll need something specific! At least, that's what I tell myself for justification.

    Have fun pretty lady :)

  12. I'm on the opposite side of the packing spectrum, I'm as light of a packer as there is LOL I only bring along what I'm 100% sure I'm going to need/use ^^ Have fun in Indianapolis, can't wait to see those photos! xx

  13. have fun! I was actually thinking today that I should go a while only shooting film. It's so much nicer actually having the photos in hand, I think. Not to mention there's just something so lovely about the quality of film!

  18. My boyfriend and I took a 13 hour drive road trip a couple months ago and something that kept our eyes from glazing over was switching back and forth between music and podcasts! You might want to look into them on iTunes if you don't have any faves already, it's basically like talk radio but you get to choose what's on. I love one called Bullseye, which is an actual radio that also gets released as a podcast so you can listen anytime, which is about pop culture and art and basically anything awesome. Have a great time! I love road trippin'.

  19. You never fail to amaze me with your playlists. I've been in an oldschool Taking Back Sunday rut lately, and on top of that to see Ruthless aka my favorite SoCo song made me really excited. Have a great time with your BFF <3

  23. Have a safe trip!! And with so many lovely items in your wardrobe, why wouldn't you overpack? ;)

  24. Your playlist was a walk down memory lane for me. A few of those songs were what I listened to in high school.

  25. I can totally see packing more dresses than needed, but then again - I change more than once a day too!

  26. Definitely check out the Broad Ripple area for night life! and if you're willing to spend the money- the Children's Museum is always a fun time, for any age. It's one of my favorite museums ever. Have fun!

  27. i see you put a few birchbox things in your suitcase. that stuff is perfect for packinG!

  28. Breakfast at Petit Chou or Cafe Patachou is a must. It's delicious. Petit Chou is in Broad Ripple and Cafe Patachou has several locations, one downtown near Circle Centre. Not sure what her schedule is like but Yessiree Petunia Vintage has a mobile shop. She maybe out and about.

  29. If your suitcase goes missing...I took it.

  36. Glad to know I am not the only over packer, my excuse is that dresses are small, and you never know what the weather will do. Have an amazing time! xo

  37. Oh man. A blog about list making? Girl after my own heart! I hope you and Susannah are having an awesome time. I'll be facing my own packing woes in the next few days too!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hahaha wow you do take a lot of dresses! At least it's dresses though...so much easier than separates. I'm actually kind of an under-packer. I usually wait until the last minute and then just throw some stuff in a suitcase and go. Most of the time I have to wear clothes multiple times (gross) and I always forget accessories. It's bad...you don't want to run into me on vacation because I'll look really boring.

Also, GREAT playlist :) Always have to have some Destiny's Child in there.
