Canopy of Color

I'm in love with a girl who's in love with the world...

My hometown's claim to fame is being the death-and-final-resting place of Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. These photos were shot on the Natchez Trace just down from his burial site (and cabin). One thing I really love about the south is how the trees tend to canopy the roads in heavily wooded areas. I definitely dream of living on a sleepy little street with canopy trees lining the sidewalks. Suburban much? Maybe.

I opted to pair this incredibly bright cardigan with this darker floral dress for some serious contrast. I think I achieved it. I tend to wear a belt every day but I decided not to with this one. It was so hot and humid out so excuse the sweaty face. I didn't bother trying to Photoshop it haha You just get it straight.

Last night at work was rough. I ended up crying in the back for a little while (awkward!) because I just felt so defeated. People were so rude and weren't tipping. I think I just let it get the best of me and had a little mini-breakdown and wanted to quit right then and there. Sometimes I have those nights (don't we all?). I'm feeling loads better today though and I've refreshed my outlook on a lot about life so I can't wait to share that with you over the next several days. It'll be a little daily feature maybe starting on Tuesday. Hopefully you'll join me!

I'm looking forward to tomorrow as we'll be celebrating Independence Day (early) with my family. Sometimes it's just the simple things... like the thought of seeing your family... that help get you through the days. I'm excited to tackle the new week, too. It's going to be a good one! Happy Saturday, honeybees! xo

PS; I think I might try adding a song to each outfit post since I don't do full playlists much anymore. Maybe once I get my Adobe CS5.5 figured out I can get back with my color palettes! I can't wait to mock up the new design coming this way for LCH!

ETA: If you visited the blog between the hours of midnight and 10am CST on Sunday, you probably noticed Photobucket being dumb. Don't worry. Everything is fixed and le blog is back! xo

  1. Everyone has their breakdowns. I think they do, anyway. God knows I have them, and afterwards I feel SO much better. I think brains just need to loose it sometimes. Personally, I'm trying to incorporate positive thinking and healthy eating into a routine. I'm excited for your new feature!

  3. Breakdowns help. You always feel better afterwards. It's just that built up stress and then BAM!

And I am with you 100% I have a road near my house that I loooove going down, because it reminds me of a rainforest... Trees all overhead... ah, so peaceful

  5. Oh gosh Kaelah, these photographs are perfect. They make me want to hunt down a wooded area & take outfit photographs.
Also, I saw some of your tweets last night. Don't let people like that get you down. I used to work in customer service & all the rude customers made me realise you get so much further in this world by being nice. I think it has made me a want to be nicer to people ...
Looking foward to seeing your new features. I'm also giving my blog a 'freshen up' this week, so must be the week for it!

  8. Wow what an amazing scene! I love trees like that I grew up in a place that had beautiful forests. I always feel so calm & peaceful and in awe of natures beauty.

  12. You are so pretty, Miss Bee. I love your dress so much, and the Amos Lee song you posted. :] I'm sorry you had such a crappy night. I totally know that feeling. It sucks when it kind of takes over for a little, but I'm glad you are feeling better. <3 you! xx

  13. You look so gorgeous! I love the color contrast mixed and the location is just beautiful. I know a little bit of some history about where I live! A few miles down the road from my new house is the famous "Double Bridge Road". This is the historic bridge that once connected the border between Alabama and Georgia. The civil war was fought on that road and the Northerners burnt down the bridge, leaving nothing but a gravel/dirt road. My family and I used to live in a log cabin on that road and we found civil war stuff all the time! We donated it all to the museums of course :).

I'm sorry to hear about your breakdown! I haven't had one of those since AP testing haha. They're terrible but know things will get better! :)

  17. That dress is great! As always, pretty print mixing in this outfit. Sorry about your rough day at work! Everyone has those though, so it's okay! Sometimes things get overwhelming and you can't help it!

  19. Loving this song.
That outfit is adorable, as usual.
And I HATE shitty nights at work. I'm a server/bartender/to go specialist (depending on the night) and when people don't tip, it can be SO so frustrating. Go out to eat at fast food or stay at home if you can't tip in a socially acceptable way.

  20. Those trees are so green and perfect! Prettiest background :)

Glad you're doing better. I had a breakdown not to long ago, after getting yelled at, at work for no reason...thankfully I had some lovely co-workers to back me up!
