Introducing the newest addition to our household, my little 3-speed Dutchie, Bernice! I built and ordered her from Republic Bike last week and she was delivered on Wednesday. I threw (read: fought with and eventually somehow shoved) the box into my Xterra and took it to Mike's work so he could put it together for me. Perks of having a bike mechanic fiance! I took her for her first ride yesterday... to the post office. It was downhill the whole way and I only realized the trouble that laid ahead on my way down. Luckily Mike convinced me to go the slightly more expensive route and get a 3-speed. I would've died if it hadn't been for that!
She's flamingo (but really more of a sherbert. and wayyy brighter than they'd have you think!) with cream tires, white vinyl skirt and chain casing. Brown leather grips and vintage styled seat. I ordered a basket for her already! She has a front and rear rack (snazzy!) and a pearl bell! I'm in all sorts of love with her. The plan is to have her sort of match with the camper we end up getting! I say sort of because the bike is so blindingly bright... I'm going to go a slightly more subtle route with the Shasta!
Who in Nashville has a bike and wants to start a bike gang?! Yes? Yes!
Do you have a bike? Did you name it? (If so, what?!) Where's your favorite place to ride it? xo
Ooh, I love it Kaelah! Beautiful! I wish I lived in a place where a vintage bike made sense...I'm afraid it would get dirty and gross on our trails here! :(
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your bike! I've been wanting to get a bike since the beginning of Summer but haven't had the time to go out and look. Thanks to your great recommendation, I might just check them out. I bet your first ride to the post office was a thrilling one. I'd love to see a video! Hehe. :) Happy biking and just a note...if I lived in Nashville, I'd TOTALLY start a bike gang with ya. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a Beetlejuice!

So adorable! I love her seat! I lived in Nashville for a little while in the Green hills area and sooo wish I would have had a bike while there! I have a custom beach cruiser that my parents bought for me for Christmas about 3 1/2 years ago. She is butter cream yellow with white wall tires. Her name is (princess) Buttercup. I rode her all over campus my last couple years in college. She is actually still living at my friends house by my old college. This post makes me want to borrow someones truck to go pick her up and give her a good sprucing so I can ride around my neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteYour bike is lovely! I've been seriously considering getting a bike recently. I have a station wagon I love, but I'm opted not to take it to college with me! Parking is so friggin' expensive and I'm already in need of major moolah to pay off the rest of tuition, classes, fees, and things. I may sell the wagon and take to a bike rider's way of life! Thanks for this post! Bernice is beaut! <3
ReplyDeleteSO cute, Kaelah.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cute! I hope you get good use out of it! I have a Panasonic Sport 1000 mixte from 1985. It's purple... "grape dust" as they call it. I wish I had more people to ride with. Luckily, everyone rides bikes around my college campus so it's not very dangerous to ride alone on the road.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteOh I love your bike Kaelah! Love the fact that it has a wrack in the front and back! shes a beauty!!

I have a turquoise mountain bike named Alfred! I was wanting a cruiser when I went to college across the country last year. They had the sweetest pink one for sale and I totally regret not taking my parents up on their offer of buying it for me. :( I really would like a vintage bike or cruiser now. Bernice is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh I just love your custom bike! I love my own bike Lola the Spiffmobile- she's a pink, cream, and brown Trek Calypso. Cruising around on her is one of my favorite things!
ReplyDeleteShe's a beauty, Kaelah! Congrats on your new baby. In my little town biking is perfect. It takes 5 mins to bike to the 'downtown' area (a few antique shops and a little restaurant).
ReplyDelete<3

Ohhhh how exciting, it's beautiful! I love the colour you've chosen :) I would love a bike but I live pretty much on the edge of our capital city so it just isn't very safe to bike around here due to all the traffic (and me being clumsy!) x
ReplyDeleteBERNICE.
ReplyDeletei couldn't love that name anymore for that cute cupcakey, you, bike.
i am in love with these kinds!
It's adorable!
ReplyDeleteI have a bike and love biking... Unfortunately it has a deflated tire since few days and i use the bike of my man's son. My bike has no name, dutch inspired, black and white with a basket i would change for a nicest one. My bike is black and white and i will add streamers very soon. I want a nice cover up for my saddle too. My dream is paint it in light blue and pink with sugar skull. I miss time for customise it, i prepare a lot of exhibition for next months.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable bike! It seems to fit you perfectly, too. Can't wait to see the basket you ordered, I bet it's the cutest. Have fun riding that thing!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always SO excited when people get new bikes! She is gorgeous! Maybe Nashville has some type of critical mass? I've meet quite a few biking friends going to my local equivalent, Bike Party.
ReplyDeleteI have an all black Kronan, her name is Agnes. She's a very classy lady. Like you, I seriously couldn't handle her though if she wasn't a 3 speed (50 lbs single speed up hills= no bueno). San Jose is a fairly bike friendly city so I feel comfortable riding pretty much anywhere, but my favs are Willow Glen and Campbell :)
Wishing you lots of new adventures on Bernice!
I love your bike! I got a new bike for mothers day from my hubby. Its a pink Schwinn and I've never been so in love! We have a bike rack on our jeep so I can ride it in town but mainly so I can ride it in the country at my parents house. I love the breeze in my hair and going past all these open fields and seeing so many deer, even a few bears! Its sad that summer is going to end because that has been my favorite part! I also just ordered a basket and a child seat for my son so he can ride along too. He's even got a plaid helmet so he will be stylin'. :)
ReplyDelete@ Katie: ohhh i love love love campbell! almost as much as i love mountain view! :D i love the bay area and all the suburban towns down there. (i'm also partial to aptos! dreamy!) :D
ReplyDeleteoh, it's so cute, one day I'll buy cruiser bike and I'll name it! Some pretty old british or czech name :)

I am so jealous! She is gorgeous! I wish I could ride a bike, but I would be too scared that I would get run over where I live. :(
ReplyDeleteI have a lovely pink Schwinn with a basket on the front. Her name is Charlotte. I haven't ridden her in forever, since I got a car (everything in my town is a loooooong bike ride away) but I'm excited to take her to school with me, where 50% of the people on campus are riding bikes to class. :D
ReplyDeleteWelcome Bernice :D I can only imagine the uphill trip back. Uck! It's just too hot to brave the great outdoors!
