Last night I went to work and time stood still. Mike came down after work and I made like $13 in the first two and a half hours (pretty rough, right?). Luckily the last half of work picked up dramatically and I left with a decent amount. We came home, crashed in bed, and slept in. This morning my nana and uncle stopped by to see the house and then Mike and I shot some outfit photos down at this little adorable abandoned house. It reminds me so much of one next door to us when we lived in Franklin and I miss that house so much! It was so run down but it had the most beautiful brick red and cream color scheme! This one is nice though! We'll definitely be going back for sure. (If anyone lives in/around Spring Hill/Franklin, TN and you know of any really great picture taking spots, share your knowledge! We like driving to find places so we're open!)
We ran to Target after the photos and picked up some stuff, then cooked the MOST legit lunch ever (well, Mike cooked it). We had a yummy spring salad with tomato basil focaccia (and 3 pepper hummus) and vegetarian "beef" tacos :D Yum! Now he's cooking a pasta dish that we're taking to a veg potluck his friend is hosting.
Anyway, here are the photos!

Normally I'm not a huge fan of this dress... I've always felt like it shapes me awkwardly and it flares out quite a bit, but I actually enjoyed wearing it today and even though I styled it up the exact same way I do everything else (black cardigan, black shoes), I thought it was a nice touch. :) Also, I switched makeup brands today... not really on purpose but because I'm out of my MAC foundation and I don't want to go to Franklin to buy any so I used solely my Bare Minerals stuff... and I have to admit... I [was] a bit impressed. It's very light and airy, but seems to provide decent coverage. My freckles poke out underneath it and that's always nice (in my opinion). I still have cartoon eyebrows (:P haha) though! I'm just rambling here! If any of you use Bare Minerals, do you like it better than MAC or what's your opinion? I'm SO ignorant at makeup so feel free to school me! [Edit: If you have other brand suggestions, let me hear them! I have naturally dry skin so if it has a built in moisturizer, that's even better! I prefer a compressed compact (semi-solid) foundation rather than liquid or straight powder.. if that makes sense? haha And upon reevaluating the Bare Minerals on my face, I'm not a fan. Ugh! Hate when that happens! It's just... bleh! Suggest!]
Off to get ready and help Mike out a bit!
xoxo
PS; I know the photos from Flickr are being all pixelated again (I can actually see it on my browser now!) so I'm going to try to figure out why on earth this keeps happening! Stick with me!
I love this floral dress, especially the buttons. You look super sweet pea. x
ReplyDeleteHey Kaelah! I have used both Bare Minerals and MAC, and was personally pretty disappointed with both. If I had to choose, I would pick Bare Minerals, but it most certanily not the best I have used. You have to be very careful with the application because if you put even a little too much on, you can come out looking all cakey, and we all know that's not very attractive. As for MAC; I live in Florida, and therefore am in CONSTANT sun/heat. If you so much as sweat a drop, it all comes ozzing off, and it's not very flattering. I'm currently using Clinique Acne Solutions. I myself don't suffer from much acne and/or breakouts, but I absolutely love the make-up itself. It's very light goes on very evenly. It isn't oily in the slightest, nor does it leak off your face during the day. As you can see, I could go on forever, but I'll leave you with that. I hope it helps. (:
ReplyDeleteGirl you are GORGEOUS!! I love your blog and follow you on twitter. You give girls that extra umph in confidence, and all I have to say is U = AMAZING!! We are all beautiful whatever shape, form, colour, style etc and I admire you for everything!! <3 xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat dress is really cute!
ReplyDeleteAs for the bare minerals and MAC question, I have no clue as I've never tried bare minerals. MAC has good coverage but for me, it feels really heavy on my face. I've heard a lot of good things about bare minerals and its cheaper than MAC. I don't know though, one day I'll try it...when I have the extra money to spend lol.

Anon: oooh! I've never tried anything from Clinique so i might have to give it a go! I like the coverage of MAC, but it DEFINITELY cakes on SUPER easy (and i cant even use the last half of my compact bc it gets SO cakey and dry, even if i moisturize like whoa!) and i tend to sweat a bit in the face so I concur there, too! i dont have bad skin, but it'll break out around ~that time every month and I dont want anything to make it go overboard. my skin is naturally dry so I have to take that into consideration. maybe i'll stop by the clinique counter in dillards or belk and test it out! thanks for your input!
ReplyDeletesamantha: thank you! i appreciate that <3
You look adorable! That dress looks so lovely on you :)
ReplyDeleteI also love the setting of these photos so much! I always have trouble finding good places to take outfit photos.
About your work..
ReplyDeleteDo you only get paid on what you sell?
Or are you talking tips? I'm curious to know.
I work in a pub and we get to keep tips we make but we share it between us and only ever leave with about £7-10 each, but we get paid hourly.
That lunch sounds so good. I love that dress on you so cute!
ReplyDeleteJane iredale, their liquid minerals is a moisturizer. I have combination skin and its awesome, it never brakes me out. :) I heard Lancome is good too but they dont have one light enough for me *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI really your dress :D and I think it looks nice on you :D.
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice house, I like that it has an old look to it.

This floral dress is too cute!!!
ReplyDeletei took graduation pictures at the train track, if your heading towards 840 from spring hill, where thompsons station church is on your right, you turn left. where the big park is. keep going straight and there is an old train. im sure yove been there, but it not its cute. love the outfit!!! xo
ReplyDeleteI particularly love this dress on you, that's crazy that this is one you don't like as much! And I noticed your freckles in these pictures a little bit.. adorable! I think the Bare Minerals is treating you well, but of course I can't see it in person so I can't really judge.
ReplyDeleteI've never used MAC, but I've used Bare Minerals for a long time. My mom and my sister love it, I was always just okay with it. I recently switched to Smashbox, which I LOVE. I actually just use the tinted moisturizer as my foundation now that my skin has cleared up, but they do have foundations in every format so it would be worth trying out. Every Smashbox product that I've used has been amazing.

I know there's been some negative comments about Bare Minerals, but I LOVE IT! It doesn't look like you have makeup on and I apply, apply, apply and it never looks cakey. The starter kit comes with several brushes that work wonders! I always say I never knew GOOD makeup until I had Bare Minerals! They even have a matte foundation now too. I personally like the matte less because I like some shine, but both are great!
ReplyDeleteahh its SO lovely

HAY! were did you get the dress?! i love it!
ReplyDeleteI love this dress! Where did you find it?
ReplyDeleteI use Bare Minerals, and I LOVE it. I hated the way liquid foundation looked on my face, and I could never find any powders I like until I tried Bare Minerals.
ReplyDeleteDid you get the starter kit? It comes with three brushes, and I've found that when I don't use all three brushes properly, it doesn't look as good. But when I do, it looks and feels great!
And your dress is adorable, by the way. C:
I'm turning into your fashion twin Kaelah!! Lately all I've been wearing is print tunics or dresses with leggings or tights and a black short sleeve cardi. Works for me though :)
ReplyDeleteLove this look and love the locations you and Mike keep shooting in. I love the idea of finding abandoned properties!
Have a great week!
kaelah!
ReplyDeletebefore i even read your description of the pictures, i was literally thinking 'wow her skin looks so good'. i live in heat too, but my mac foundation lasts so much! if you have super dry skin, moisturize and use primer, which i know you do. but i really like this on you. the pictures look flawless!
everyone: so sorry i always forget to post the details at first! i edited the post with all the details of the clothes! :)
ReplyDeleteSuper cute dress, I adore florals.
ReplyDeleteYour natural eye colour is so pretty :)
I just noticed the pixelated photo thing you're talking about and I'm pretty sure you're having the same issue I had a while back.
ReplyDeleteWhen you grab the html from Flickr, it gives you the option to grab certain sizes. You are going with the default (Medium) which makes the largest dimension 500px. From there, you are either resizing the code manually, or resizing the pictures with the buttons in blogger, correct? This is where the pixelation is occuring. You are now resizing an image from 500px to 710px. You know what that means... Loss in quality.
What you'll want to do is, when copying the html code from Flickr, select Large setting instead of Medium (yeah, an annoying extra step), and copy from there.
You always want to size down with images, never up. And Flickr does some weird thing where each size image has it's own destination that they link to, unlike photobucket and other places that all link to the one large image and just resize within the code. I think it's to improve image load time (larger photos take longer to load)...
Anywhootie. I hope that made sense. It's kind of hard to explain over type. Let me know if that helps or you have any questions!
MEGAN: YES! THAT IS IT! i fixed it for one post, but i grabbed all large instead and lately i've been grabbing medium without even knowing it! ahh! i was telling mike about this but i still couldn't figure out what i was doing, and then i go back and look and realize i was indeed grabbing medium. haha man oh man! thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit girl!!

I love the dress.
ReplyDeleteI use BareMinerals and I love it. But I have really sensitive skin, and it doesn't make me break out.
when ever i wear foundation (which is like once a month) i use Loreal Bare Minerals (is that the kind you're using?) It feels like i'm not wearing any foundation at all and it's so light and airy! but i have a really hard time finding foundation that's white enough for me, haha. Idk that's just my opinion, and I think that you look absolutely gorgeous with this new foundation, and beautiful dress!

i like to use the combo kind in the copact, too, but i havent been able to find one that doesnt dry my skin. i use an oil free clinique moisturizer first, though, and that does the trick! covergirl has a good cream to powder/foundation compact but i prefer the liquid-i have combination skin so it is a good balance :) but really, the clinique moisturizer is so great!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is adorable(: and for make-up I don't know how into you are to ordering make up offline but there's a few wonderful companies that I use and love one, is Aromaleigh (but closing very soon) if you got a chance to any of that make up it's lovely, or even Meow Cosmetics, its great and similar to Aromaleigh, but those two companies sell stuff like bare minerals but with more of a selection! And both of those are fairly inexpensive and all natural(:
ReplyDeleteAhh, I'm glad the rest of the night picked up! That's the bad thing about working in a bar, you never know how the night will go.
ReplyDeleteAll of the food you guys made sounds DELICIOUS. Take photos next time!! Haha.
I love your dress. Sorry I can't help you out with the makeup, the only makeup I own is Burts Bees Chapstick! Haha.
I'm not too huge of a fan of bare minerals for dry skin, particularly during colder months.. it can get a little cakey or dry looking.
ReplyDeleteI know you said you aren't a huge fan of liquid foundation, but Makeup Forever HD is the most AMAZING foundation ive tried. it gives such an amazing glowy finish and is really buildable, from sheer to heavy coverage. i just dot it on my face (cheeks, chin, nose, forehead), then buff it all in with a big kabuki brush.
Just as easy as a compact, IMO.. and it doesn't break me out.. and I seriously break out from EVERYTHING.. i have the moodiest, most sensitive skin on the planet i swear. They have it at Sephora in a huge range of shades.
Another trick I've learned to helping my makeup wear better, besides liberal use of moisturizer, is to use a good silicone based primer (i like laura gellar spackle) and to only apply powder in places where i tend to get oily or my foundation wears off - during the summer its usually on my t-zone and chin only.
oh my word, that dress is adorable.
ReplyDeletelove this outfit post.
Love your hair color! what color do you dye it?
ReplyDeleteThese photos are so beautiful.
