// Olive + Floral

Y'all, this dress is something. It's seriously so beautiful. The pattern and colors are what (my) dreams are made of. Yet when I went to look at the outfit photos on the computer, I felt like maybe it just wasn't meant to be with my body. Being majorly "blessed" (ahem) in the hip/booty department means short dresses get even shorter, and flared skirts flare out like whoa. Even though it's not the most flattering on me, I can't help but love it. The watercolor pattern on the dress reminds me so much of my own blog header and it makes me want to overhaul it to match those colors. AHH! My sage cardigan came in handy, too. I've had this thing for several years (I bought it in every color at Target!) and it still holds up 'til this day. Best $17 spent, I think.

I'm still super squinty in these photos, too. Still unable to rock the contacts + mascara, and my eyes can't hang with any sort of sunlight. I'm really hoping it passes by the time The Creativity Summit rolls around because otherwise I'll either be squinting to the high heavens or rocking some serious sunglasses on stage. (Eep!) If any of you have ever had a corneal ulcer, I'd love to hear if you have any home treatment/remedy ideas! The eyedrops that I have for it feel like they make it worse, so I've been skimping on them. I didn't realize how common these sort of ulcers are, but I'll just go ahead and say this: I will do everything in my power to never ever ever get one again! haha You can get them just by sleeping in your contacts overnight, so play it safe, friends!

Today I'll be working on our new house, finishing up a "How To Jux" guide for the blog, and formatting February's big giveaway! Next month's prize is a super sweet (hint!) one and it's perfect for the lovey-dovey February. Anyone else as excited about oversized stuffed animals, flowers, and pink/red as I am?! Valentine's Day is my favorite (!!!) holiday. No shame!

  8. I've got to say, I totally disagree - I think the cut is perfect for flattering your figure!
Hope your eye heals fully asap. I've heard warm milk can be soothing, though I don't know if it'd work on something as serious as an ulcer!

  9. Oh honey, I've suffered the eye thing too. And unfortunately patience and time is the only remedy. Cold compresses work for the pain but there is no secret fix that I've found. Im terrible about sleeping in my contacts but i really do try cause i don't want to suffer through that ever again. Hope you get better soon!

  13. Guuuurrrrrrl. Your body just makes you look fabulous all the time. It's a gift, not a curse! The poofing of the dresses makes them look even tea-partier than the designer intended and that's a good thing! There can never be too much tea-partyness.

  14. Oh man, I can't go outside without even the slightest hint of sunlight, or else my eyes just start pouring. Ugh.

I think the dress looks great on you! Seriously, very cute.

  15. I have to say, I think the dress looks lovely and not all unflattering. I have the same "blessing" (ha, my mother blames our Irish genes), so I tend to tell myself that the extra flare my butt gives my dresses just gives them a vintage/50s twist...

Also: your hair looks fantastic in these shots!

  19. No way, that dress looks super cute on you, plus you don't have to wear a scratchy crinoline for added poufiness! I love the soft watercolor floral fabric.

  30. i feel like you totally rock a shorter skirt esp since it elongates your legs! and the gold nail polish is killer!

i had an eyeball ulcer a few years ago from religiously sleeping in my contacts for like a decade. even though i had the ones you could sleep in i thought i was being thrifty by not throwing them out and starting a new pair every week and that resulted in a stressed eyeball and the ulcer. aside from time and compresses (i switched between warm and cold) the only other thing i found relief in was wearing a generic drug store eye patch, which i know isn't all that helpful in your situation.

hopin for a speedy recovery! and no worries if it hasn't healed by the summit your squintiness isn't even noticeable!

  31. So I just discovered your blog over the weekend and I've been eyeing down all your outfits! I actually have a very similar body type and LOVE dresses but I'm never really sure how things will work on someone with a little extra junk in the hips/thighs. Anyways - I'm a huge fan of this floral dress and glad to see that it looks amazing!!

  35. I understand what you mean about the flare fit of dresses if you have hips and a booty. The one that gets me is when the dress is slightly shorter in the back because of it. Boo! But you are working what your mama gave you! It's a beautiful dress. I also have this problem with the ladies. Some dresses just do not work with our bodies. But I think this one is really cute on you. I love those flats.

  37. Your dress is gorgeous! My 2012 resolution was to get a little girlier and perk up my look. I have been hooked on dresses and am ever on the quest to hide my post four kids in four years belly! I bought four (4!) new dresses last week because of modcloth's amazing sale! Can't thank you enough for introducing us ;) !!

  40. Oh man I had a corneal ulcer one summer back in high school and it was the worst pain ever. At least it was the worst pain my eyes have ever felt. I'm sensitive to light already and it made it way way worse. I really would keep doing the eye drops if I were you. They kill the infection that lets the ulcer grow. They won't work very quickly but eventually it'll all heal up. Mine took well over two weeks to feel better. I didn't wear my contacts again for about 3 weeks. Just be careful with the ulcer because there can really be awful consequences if it keeps growing. I learned my lesson about sleeping in my contacts after that ordeal!
Anyway, I think this dress is really flattering on you! You paired the perfect color cardigan with it too. I wish I had one in that shade. It looks like it'd be very versatile.
