Let me preface this by saying that it was 2003. It may or may not have extended until 2005 or so... but... It was a long time ago. Even still, I can feel my heart go pitter-patter just a teensy weensy little bit when I hear these artists and these songs. Yes, this is a playlist of my favorite songs from when I was 15. (I'd like to say "Oh but I'm 22 now and my taste is so much more refined" but the truth is far from that and I'm okay with it. I like what I like!) I remember dance parties in Shannon's basement and long drives to shows blasting Something Corporate and Taking Back Sunday. I remember the loud sing-alongs to The Academy Is... Every one of these songs may not have been 2003 gold medal, but these bands were more than certainly a staple in my adolescence. Seeing as many of you are around the same age as I, maybe you'll get a kick out of them, too!
Now I have an even better idea for my playlist next week! Oh man, I can't wait!

i was about the same age and loved (and still love too!) most of these songs dearly. this is totally bringing me back to my fun teen years. oh, nostalgia!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful songs...especially the "In this diary-The Ataris"...I looove it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI was sixteen, and had the exact same taste in music, and will admit, that I still do, pretty much, haha... though, I have more range in my musical tastes now.
ReplyDeletei will now be listening to jack's mannequin all day because of this! i'm not ashamed of loving this mixtape! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat mix-tape. a few of my favorite songs on there!
ReplyDelete"The Middle"! I listened to that all through middle school! :D
ReplyDeletei remember listening to your favorite weapon for the first time back in the summer of 2002 and knowing that my life was completely changed. good bands will do that to you. :]
ReplyDeleteOmygosh! Love it! We would have been best friends when we were 15! This music brings back so many good memories!
ReplyDeleteI totally listened to all these!!! great!!!

What a great mix - this totally takes me back a little handful of years :)
ReplyDeleteSomething Corporate WAS high school for me. Oh my word. All of these artists were actually :) I'm in love with this playlist, Kaelah!
ReplyDeleteHah - Also, two years ago I wanted to relive my not-so-long-lost youth on the drive to my boyfriend and I's first camping trip together... so of course I loaded up Taking Back Sunday's Tell All Your Friends and a few Punk-o-Ramas into the CD player and blasted it. Devon, who is 9+ years my senior looked at me like I was nuts the whole way down :)
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! I remember falling in love with Jimmy Eat World my senior year! I can even tell you that I listened to that album for the first time in March/April 2003 and I still love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd Ataris! Loved "In This Diary"! Enough that I made some sort of crappy banner to hang in my room, ha! And loved their cover of "Boys of Summer"!
This post made me happy!
LOVE this mix! I still listen to about half these songs, and will be downloading the other half tonight! :) Reminds me of summers at the Warped Tour & singing loud with my girlfriends :)
ReplyDeleteLove this music!! Totally my style, fer sure. =)

I'll admit it,I just discovered Taking Back Sunday in 2008/09. I knew OF them before then, just never listened before. Yeah,well,anyway...I know about 7 of the artists on here. My musical tastes haven't really changed all that much because most of the stuff these days just....sucks,IMO. It sounds all the same. So,I guess if anyone has any recommendations, send em my way...? :)
ReplyDelete'The Middle' is like my life anthem, I play it everyday to remind myself that its ok to be different from all the preppy kids at my school! Marina x
ReplyDeleteLove it. I loved Taking Back Sunday as well. My favorite was Jimmy Eat World and I still have a soft spot for them now- 10 years later!
ReplyDelete75% of these tunes you've listed here were BIG faves of mine at 15, and at 22 myself I'm not ashamed to say I still love them! All that's different is perhaps I listen to a little wider range these days... and a LOT less Korn/Limp Bizkit than I before lol! *cringe*
ReplyDeleteHee hee funny post :)
Mozzypop x
This is basically my itunes from back then (and let's be real, still..). I still love to listen to these CDs. I was listening to Mae - Destination: Beautiful last week, mmm. Anyway, I totally appreciate this playlist.

ohhh goodness. i love every single one of these songs, to this day. not to mention, you earned major brownie points for saves the day; my absolute favorite band (two of my tattoos are from them!)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you have "At Your Funeral" on your list. I love STD so much.
ReplyDeleteI saw your tweet about this post earlier today, and I've been wishing I could actually listen to the playlist ever since. I went from class to work, and now can't wait to go home and listen! It's like a wonderful trip back in music time.
ReplyDeletebest playlist ever!!!
ReplyDeleteOh golly, Brand New. Yes.
ReplyDelete& isn't it funny how these songs from "the past" have become the soundtrack to our lives, each one bringing a memory and a feeling? It's wonderful & it makes one wonder what songs are going to make it onto the next volume!
I hope you have a grand Monday!
Great playlist! These songs remind me of high school! They are all so amazing and remind me of different times in my life. I still listen to all of these. I have a hard time moving on to 'new' music! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. Blast to the past.

HA! The Academy Is... is from right around here. I used to hang out with the original drummer who got kicked out because he didn't have the right look (which means he looked normal and wasn't a skinny emo boy!). Jimmy Eat World will forever have my heart, regardless of how much their new album sucks... xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great mix! I'm not ashamed to admit that was 21 in 2003 and I totally LOVED these songs then and now that I'm 28 I still do!!
ReplyDeleteThis mixtape made my heart go a-flutter
ReplyDeleteHa! I just found my old Jimmy Eat World cds the other day, and promptly put them on my iPod! Saves the Day is ALWAYS on my iPod (I will always love them!!) and Brand New is STILL one of my favorite-favorite bands! Hence, my blog: crackthesky17.blogspot.com

hi hi. i've never commented before but had to on this! this was pretty much my musical taste of 2000-2003! Especially In This Diary. That was mine and my bff's 2003 summer anthem before we went off to college! We tried to do everything listed in the song and even customized it to ourselves haha. such good memories! aww!
ReplyDeleteI listened (and still do) to all of these guys then too! I'm the same way I can't help but still listen to those old songs. They were the songs that I listened to when I was growing into who I am now. Ahh going down memory lane :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteomg i forgot about saves the day. definitely going to download some now!
ReplyDeleteoh and the ataris. you are bringing back fond memories
