Nirvana

This is the last of the outfits I had saved up from about three weeks ago (yow!) I've been slacking off majorly since we were out of town/sick. Hoping that next week will be a different situation entirely. Lately I've been toying with the idea of going back to being a dark brunette but I can't seem to commit one way or the other. My decision flounders daily but I'm hoping to find a great colorist in town so I can take the plunge if desired. That way I don't run into any at-home blunders like before! Anyway, this outfit reminds me of early 1990's Nirvana + grunge for some reason (disclaimer: I know nothing about grunge aside from the fact I wore a lot of denim in the 90s!). Maybe the boots and the denim top to the dress. I normally always wear a belt with this dress but decided to forgo it and keep it simple with a charcoal cardi. This dress is one from H&M last year, and the skirt is like tissue paper.... meaning it flies up at every chance. Kind of frustrating but at the same time it makes for some great twirlin'. You know, if that's your thing.

Mike and I are working on doing a "Camera Roundup" post for the blog soon. Taking all of our photo stuff (Lomography cameras included) and showing what kind of photos they take, etc. We picked up some FujiFilm to go in an old Polaroid, too, so we're excited to try that out (inspired by our trip to see Susannah!) I'm totally writing this here to keep me accountable, so hold me to it folks!

We spent part of yesterday with numerous realtors and doing drive-and-sees on several houses for rent in Nashville. We toured a handful and really liked 2 of them. We got the go ahead from our landlord to be looking + even fielding potential new tenants for our loft. It's crazy to think we've already been here almost a year! I love this little loft and there will be things about it I'll always miss, but we really want the girls to have a fenced in backyard so they can run and play on the days we can't take them to the puppy park. And I really want a bathtub! We found one house we absolutely loved in West Nashville (the opposite direction of our intention) and we're hoping we hear from someone soon. Tonight will be my first night back to work at the bar since New Years Eve. Hopefully we'll be busy because I've heard the last two weekends were totally dead. That's about as exciting as my Friday gets, y'all! Anyone else doing anything exciting this weekend?!

  1. Girl! I am so excited to see that photo post. It sounds awesome. You're always so good at sharing your nuggets of wisdom with us...I love it!
Good luck on the house hunt, I'm sure you'll find something. I think the universe is always planning something good for you, you just have to keep an open mind and let it do its thing, and I'm sure you will end up in a house that's perfect for you!
This weekend my plans are to work (finally!). I live in the mountains and work at a ski resort, and thing have been really slow because it hasn't snowed yet. Buuuut we're supposed to get a foot of snow tonight and then it's supposed to keep snowing for a couple of days so that's really going to help us out. I can't wait to get out on the slopes!
Good luck with the house hunt!

  2. Love the dress so much. Hope you find your little house you've been looking for!

Alas I have to open at work today so nothing exciting for my Friday either but Saturday my boyfriend and I are getting together with my family to go to this fish camp (not an actual camp where you fish but a place where they serve fish.) He's never been and actually never heard of one so I'm excited to spend some time with him and my family.

  9. I LOVE that dress! I have been searching thrift stores for a good denim dress, but it is so difficult to find one that doesn't make you look like a farmer...or a child. Yours is perfecto!

  10. Love love love the way your hair stands out with the blue tones. The denim in the dress is just perfect!!!

Can't wait to see your post about cameras - it's something I'm always curious about when it comes to photography and it often isn't laid out simply and all at once, so I think it's a great idea!

  14. Looking for a new place is exciting and scary all at the same time. My boyfriend and I have been searching for our own place for awhile and it is a lot of fun but also a lot of work and stress. I can't even tell you how many hours I've spent on real estate sites, I've felt like an amateur real estate agent for awhile now. We've looked in so many locations that I would have never thought we would be looking, it is kind of fun going outside of our comfort zone, most of the places we've looked I had never been to before. I'm sure you will find a place and I'm sure it will be lovely. I live with roommates and I'd do just about anything to have my OWN kitchen and a bath tub. I miss taking long, luxurious baths (aka me singing to myself and playing with rubber duckies).

Good luck at the bar, get those tips pretty lady. I have no real plans for the weekend, I haven't really even thought about it... is it Friday already? Holy J.

    Have a good weekend!

  15. i am head over heels for your dress! it is pretty grunge. when i imagine myself in an all girl 90's grunge band (and that happens often..), i'm always denim glad with ripped tights and dark prints.

my boyfriend and i are moving to nashville within the next few months. i would LOVE the opportunity to take a look at your loft. from photos it looks incredible, like my dream apartment. but i feel we'll be coming and going at different times, and that's a bummer. either way, i'd love to talk to you about nashville sometime! i've only been once but i'm kind of in love with the place and cannot wait to get there.

  18. The thing I hate about reading blogs on Fridays is that they're always like, "yay weekend!" My weekends consist of me dragging myself out of bed at 6am to go wipe butts in an 85-degree nursing home all day. I don't go out at night because I'm a wuss about having to get up in the morning. So it's somewhat comforting knowing that you have to work too... sorry! lol

  19. I think these are the first JC shoes I've seen that I'd actually consider wearing myself, haha. They don't look quite as scary as the others!
