// Silhouette + Suede

Do y'all know how difficult it is to focus a camera when it's snowing? Surprisingly hard! haha Over half of the photos we had from this outfit were out of focus due to one tiny little snowflake falling in front of me. This outfit is one that I actually wore when it was not snowing, but we didn't have time to photograph it so we finally shot a few outfits over the weekend (That's probably like cheating in the fashion blogging world...). It makes it look like Tennessee gets way more snow than we actually do. I picked up this dress at Charlotte Russe the other weekend when Mike and I killed some time at Opry Mills. I loved the black floral silhouette against the cream fabric. I decided to pair it with my new Jeffrey Campbell "Dina" boots (with a clear acrylic heel! Click here for a better picture!) Probably not the best idea to wear suede shoes in the snow, but it was only for a minute on the deck haha (Peep the shoe print it leaves down at the bottom of the post! So fun!) The shoes are insanely comfortable and so easy to walk in, too!

As Mike was shooting the "details" of this outfit, I worked up a little snowball and let it fly. I had no idea I had such good aim, but he was definitely caught off guard. (Don't worry, he retaliated) I couldn't help but snap a couple of extra pictures of the snow around the yard, too. It's such a rare treat here that I needed to really capture the moment ha. The holly bush off of our front porch looks so pretty with the snow, but that thing will catch you off guard if you're not paying attention! Sharp! // Today Mike and I are trying to lay out a daily schedule for work, and we're wrangling up dozens (and dozens!) of items to  upload to Kaelah's Closet. Question: Would you (as a buyer) prefer us to list it on an e-commerce site or flash sale on Instagram? I polled some friends on Twitter and it seems most are requesting e-commerce shop.

I'm working on tomorrow's TiLT post today, so if you have written or read anything awesome lately, I'd love for you to leave a link in the comments! (Of course I'll credit you if it makes the cut!) I feel like the past couple of weeks have been so boring for us (and probably for you as an LCH reader haha) We haven't quite found our groove yet in our new surroundings so we're trying to get our mojo back. This weekend we'll be scouting a location in Brentwood for an engagement shoot we have coming up. We're so excited to be back in the saddle with photo work. It feels so rewarding when we get our film processed. I know we'll get to work with so many amazing couples and families this year! If you're in the market for any photography this coming season, give us a shout!

Call me totally bonkers, but this might be my favorite outfit ever. Even more so because I wore it in the middle of a "Tennessee blizzard." (Yes, this is a crazy amount of snow for us. In March, no less.) This particular day desperately needed some sunshine, so I decided to throw on all of the bright colors I owned in order to put a little pep in my step. I've had this Tulle dress for several months, but this is the first time I've worn it. I'm crazy into the orange + fuschia color combo, even if it was ~so 2011. These are also without a doubt my favorite Jeffrey Campbell shoes, too. Man I need to get my hands on the other colors [blue + red + black!!!]. They are so comfortable! After putting together my outfit I still felt like it needed something so I nabbed a silk flower off of desk vase and pinned it up in my hair with two little bobby pins. Because every snowy March day needs a some silk peonies, amirite?! I think the black tights tone it down a notch and make it slightly more Winter appropriate... if that's even possible. I'm not even going to apologize for being insanely matchy matchy. ~*Haters 2 the left.

Yesterday Mike and I tackled a huge portion of our house when it comes to unpacking and sorting. Toby's room is fully unpacked (!!!) and it's amazing how much space he has in his room now. We're on the hunt for one of those kitschy road/city rugs for his room so he can party with his Hot Wheels haha. I didn't quite get around to the several bags of shoes and purses that may or may not be sitting in the living room floor. Argh! Slowly bur surely, right?!

Renovating can be such a daunting task, but honestly, we tackled (and totally owned!) the "big" stuff... ripping up floors*? Nothing! Tearing out walls + hanging new drywall*? We got this! Going under the house to built a support joist for the floor beam in the kitchen*? Nada problem! Rewiring basically the entire house, including sawing holes in the ceiling and walls to make it all work*? On it! But painting the cabinet doors, hanging curtains, and getting a proper coffee table? Not happening (any time soon, it seems). I guess that's just the nature of the beast. But seriously... I'd really love some cabinet doors soon! (*Indicates that I most certainly did not participate in that activity. That was all my rad husband. Sitting on the bench for those was in the best interest for everyone.)

Last night I was sorting through my email while I was setting up my new Mailbox (!!!) account and I realized I had 26,000 emails in my inbox. TWENTY-SIX THOUSAND! WHAT?! They're all read (if I had 26k unread emails I'd hope someone would just put me out of my misery), but I'd say 70%+ can't be deleted. I'm really good at deleting junk/newsletters, and things like PayPal notices and such. But years and years worth of business/blog related emails have come my way and upon dealing with them, I'd just let them sit in my inbox. That didn't ever really bother me until now. If I needed to reference an email, I'd do a quick search and Voila! There it'd be... but I crave a 0 inbox so badly! It's sad to say that "Organize my inbox!" has been on my to do list for a few years now (OBVIOUSLY!) but something's gotta give. I am officially setting out on the task of organizing, sorting, filing, and deleting 26,000 messages. Mhm.

With that being said, if you have any inbox tips, tricks or even just well wishes, they'd be greatly appreciated at this point! haha I'm going to try to do it at a pace of 1,000 a day... yeah, let's see how long that lasts! Happy Monday!

// Strawberry Rain

little chief honeybee kaelah bee
Yesterday's weather was totally yucky around these parts, but that didn't stop me from getting dressed up. (Truth talk: I didn't actually realize it was raining until we were about to head out the door... ahh, blissful ignorance). I found my trusty ol' strawberry umbrella and we braved the rain anyway. We quickly shot these on our back deck (with Mike safely under the carport haha!) and with my newfound awareness of the weather I opted to swap my shoes out for flats. But c'mon! Look at those shoes! They are dreamy, right?!?! I was a lucky winner of a Miss Karmaloop giveaway on Danielle's blog a few weeks back and I got a hefty $1,000 to spend on ugly shoes. Basically made my life. I'll have to do a little haul of my pickings because they're just that good! I had my doubts about these babies but I am in love. As for the rest of the outfit, I was originally wearing a black dress (black on black on black on black) but decided that was just too much so I changed into a lacy number I picked up from H&M a couple of years ago. It helps lighten the mood a bit!The heart cardigan helps balance the skull cameo brooch, I think. Yeah? Totally.

I know I kind of vaguely hinted at a "change" or whatever a few days/weeks/posts back, and I guess I'm starting to feel like I'm finally figuring it out? I'm not sure. So basically when I spoke on the social media panel at the Nashville Creativity Summit, I mentioned that I felt out of my element and sort of "lost" on the whole thing. I love this blog, and I love using it to document our daily lives and adventures and whatever, but I feel like I've just sort of been "aloof" with it all of these years. I never really had a purpose or a main "goal" with it. I never sought out to have thousands of followers, though at one point it was more of a priority. I've been really thinking about my relationship with blogging the past few months - not just as an author, but also as a reader. The kinds of blogs I gravitate toward, the kind I enjoy reading day after day. Not to try and emulate them necessarily, but to find "my groove". I love that so many of y'all read here because you're actually interested in my little family, like, personally. That seriously means so much. (So often I feel like I need to apologize for the narcissism and personal post dumps [ex. wedding posts], but I also know that's totally silly because it's a personal blog).

I guess what I'm getting at (in a very indirect, roundabout way) is that I want to explore other ways of reaching people on LCH. With content, with comments, with any and everything. I want to open up ways for y'all to submit things you like, want to see, etc. I want to broaden my post "topics". I don't think one should try to spread themselves too thin in the pursuit of more readers, but instead I want to just expand my content. I want to post about things that I'm really bad at -- like cooking. So maybe my recipes won't be something you should like, invest in, but I'd like to get better at stuff and document that on my road to "sucking just a little bit less" haha Does that even make sense?

In the era of Pinterest, the whole blog world seems so saturated with so many ideas and so many people saying "hey! look at me! I did it better!" but I think I've just had a cynical perspective. I probably won't come up with the best DIYs or recipes or whatever, but it'd be kind of boring if we only did what we were good at. Plus who cares if someone has done it before... I guess this is just one of those brain dumps. Just excuse me!
little chief honeybee kaelah bee
I've really been itching for a redesign lately. Not just a redesign, but like a rebrand. A new focus (or well, a main focus to begin with!) It's a bit contridictory for me to say that I want a focus for LCH, but I want to expand the content, but that's exactly what I'm saying. I just want to try new things and if they work, awesome! If they don't, I'll rotate them out and try something else in it's place. -- To be honest, I'm really feeling the same in my personal life (as far as "work/career" goes). I just haven't found "it" yet, so the quest continues!

Basically this is me saying Thank You, to all of you who continue to check in daily and are sort of on this bumpy ride with me. Blogging can seem so weird if you really start to think about it, but I love it. Here's to hoping it's a fun ride at least! -- Did any of this blog post make any sense? (I realize I already  asked that a few paragraphs up...) Do you totally think I'm crazy? haha ugh.

The TL;DR version: I sometimes get bored writing my blog (bet that means some of y'all get tired of reading it) and I'm planning on ~changing things up. Nothing major. Just pushing myself to try new things that I've always wanted to but lacked the drive/confidence/etc. It goes a bit deeper than that, but I'm sure you get the jist. I love opening up the door for conversation on these sorts of things, but I'm pretty determined to move forward with my plan regardless. I hope you'll stick around for it! :)

PS; Can we just go ahead and say it to get it out of the way? Dumbest outfit title ever haha -- Newly goal: Create "fashion blogger outfit title generator" website. A bunch of random nouns and colors, haphazardly strung together for the perfect title. Taking all of creative thinking out of it ;)

G.I. Jane

Something happened in my sleep that left me 110% drained upon waking. I got more than enough sleep last night (which could be the culprit) but I've also been having the strangest dreams ever. They're logical, but bizarre. Last night I was boogie boarding down a pretty quick (but small) river... Then that river turned into a weird land area and then a river and then a pier to a lake. what? Haha Believe me, this girl has watched a few too many River Monsters and has a slightly ridiculous fear of rivers. I won't be boogie boarding down one soon... I need to start keeping a dream journal of sorts so I can remember the crazy thing my brain thinks up when I'm in slumber. Any of y'all have regularly occurring weird dreams?

This outfit was shot last Wednesday morning when I had the sudden hankering to wear some of my ugly shoes. They've gone a little unnoticed the past couple of months since I'm nervous to wear huge platforms while out and about with a toddler. I decided this day to just throw caution to the wind and do it. Luckily everything went smoothly (you know, until walking down our backyard and falling face over foot...) This dress is a new favorite from LuLu*s and I love it. It might look like an ordinary ol' cotton dress but it's the best material... it's like a really dense mesh and the weight of it is perfect. I hate wearing super lightweight dresses because the wind always takes them for a ride, but this one was heavy enough to feel substantial and safe. I was having a hard time finding a cardigan that looked good with the outfit so Mike picked this one out. Pretty impressive!

Today I plan on drinking all of the coffee in the world (Seriously. All of it.), working on a design commission, making wedding lists galore (We finally started our guest list last night!), and hanging out with some super fab friends before loading up for work. Crossing my fingers that this weekend is worlds better than last... Happy weekend! and Happy June! New sponsors will be up in just a few!

Love Story

Love Story by Taylor Swift on Grooveshark

This dress makes me feel a little bit like Taylor Swift. I don't know what it is about it, but it looks like something she'd wear on a hyper-romantic album cover. You know, except hers would fit haha This is such a beautiful dress. So well made, and totally adorable. It's just about 2-3 sizes too big. It was a gift from the folks over at Shabby Apple, and I was stoked to style it up. They made mention on the site that this specific dress runs big so to size down. I'm one of those people that I'd rather be safe than sorry, but I could've stood to go down 2 more probably. I do plan on having it altered to fit perfectly though, and take up some of the length since I'm such a shorty. Just pay attention to the measurements! The metallic dots on it are dreamy and I can just imagine a fluffy petticoat underneath! I could also see it being worn as a slightly more casual wedding dress. It's from their Green Leaf collection which is vintage recreations that are handcrafted!

They have a huge array of women's dresses and even maternity dresses at Shabby Apple. I really dig the vintage style. I've got my eye on the Garden Isle dress because it's the best pattern! (You can use the coupon code "littlechief10off" for 10% off, good for 30 days. Or you can "Like" Shabby Apple on Facebook and get discounts/deals daily!)
It felt good to put tall shoes on again! Ahh, how I have missed thee! These are totally comfortable to walk around in all day and even maybe casually/quickly trot after a little dude. They're a little more tasteful than some of my collection, okay? It's been strangely cold here in Nashville lately. Then hot. Then cold again. It made for a doozy of a storm last night. I met my friend (and second MOH, well, matron of honor I guess!) last night for coffee at Sam and Zoe's in Berry Hill and we chatted for over 2 and a half hours about her recent elopement (!!!), her reception tomorrow, my wedding plans, business and life in general. I seriously don't think conversations with anyone else pump me up quite as much as they do with her. They just get me so stoked on life! That's such a great quality to have in a friend. Anyway, while we were there we both started getting crazy amounts of texts/calls (mainly her! I don't think Mike watches the weather that much!) about a storm coming. Then the sky got black and hail started pouring. It got so rough that it blew open the doors of Sam & Zoe's a few times. The worst of it was over in like 5-10 minutes so we just waited it out. We ended up talking until closing time (again).

She married my other best friend last week and I don't think I've ever been so sincerely happy for 2 people before. It's just so exciting! Congrats, lady! (For the ten millionth time!)
Today Mike and I are rounding up stuff for two photo shoots this weekend. Elle's reception tomorrow and then a fun little shoot with our friend Kayce's lil dude, Jett! Here's to hoping work isn't totally lame tonight and I get some decent sleep before it all goes down! Happy Friday!

How are you spending your weekend?

The "storm of the century" ended up being a lot less of a "thing" than anticipated (luckily!). It got really dark and broody around 4pm and then the already-insane winds picked up, the rain rolled in and the hail started falling. We just woke Toby up from his nap and were about to make a break for the basement (the entrance is outside) but then all of a sudden the clouds parted and all was well again. Hopefully everyone stayed safe!

Before the big storm Georgia managed to slip out of her harness (what is with us losing our animals this week?!) and she made a run for every single mud puddle in the neighborhood. I can't even. Here's what she ended up looking like:

I wanted to be mad but I just couldn't! I couldn't stop laughing as Mike and I were lunging after her in our pajamas in the front yard. If ever a dog has loved mud/water, it's this one. And goodness knows she'd sink if it were above her head! Anyway -- I wasn't sure I'd make it to work last night but I did. Guess that's a good thing since I only worked one night last weekend. Phew! That drive is wearing me out. Between Toby being go, go, go and late nights/early mornings, I'm pooped. Welcome to the real world, I guess! Haha

As for this outfit -- I picked up this dress at Forever 21 a couple of weeks ago and this cardigan: Walmart! I know. I normally really hate shopping at Walmart (the experience is just so meh!) but I saw this baby out of the corner of my eye and I just had to have it. It's so perfect with this black + white outfit. The belt was a lucky 25 cent find at Salvation Army back when we visited Susannah + Chris in Chicago. And the shoes... Oh my Jeffreys! They feel like such distant friends since having a toddler in the house. This is the first heeled shoe I've worn in over 2 weeks. My shoes seem immediately impractical haha I got my new iPhone case on ModCloth and it's just so cute! I won a giveaway on Chelsey's blog a few weeks ago and got a $100 ModCloth giftcard (woot! I never win anything!) so I snagged me up all kinds of cute things! I'll have to share some soon!

Alright friends, I'm off to enjoy this sunshine! Even if it is a crazy 30 degrees cooler than yesterday! xo

Brian and Christina got into town last night and the fun began! We ate dinner at Las Palmas, played a game of Quelf (the BEST board game ever, seriously!) and then a round of Cranium (also a blast!). We crashed with the intention of waking up for waffles (still haven't made it that far yet). We're hitting up Third Man Records, Grimey's and some fun East Nashville spots today so I'll have to report back about those. I get about a dozen emails a month asking for Nashville suggestions and I promise to try and do a full post before too terribly long! Happy Friday, y'all!

And I'll leave you with this gem of an outtake... I have more "whoa face!" photos in my Outfit folders than actual outfits.... Oh joy! (Oh, and this is one of my all time favorite Stars songs, too!)

Orange Bomb

Thank you everyone for your kind words and positive thoughts re: Mike's grandpa the other day. Unfortunately we lost him yesterday. Mike's been taking it pretty hard which is totally understandable. It seems so silly that I'd write this while sharing "what I wore" so please forgive the method of delivery. I just wanted to say that your sweet gestures did not go unnoticed. Go hug someone you love today and tell them how much they mean to you.

You get an outfit today instead of an HTB post. I haven't even had 2 minutes to sit down and think. Our loft looks like a tornado hit it and we finally get the keys to our new house today. Work wiped me out this weekend and I had a scary run in with some black ice on the interstate. We're going to eat some breakfast and then head over to Murfreesboro for the visitation. I can't help but think blogging is so trivial in comparison but I love my little corner of the internet so I didn't want to leave it high and dry for two days.

I've got a few things planned for the blog this week while I'm in limbo between homes. Most of them are outfits... a sort of farewell to our loft and the sweet brick backdrop I could rely on when it was too cold/hot/wet to go outside. See y'all tomorrow! xo
