Country Cabin Bumpkin

These were shot on the porch of the little abandoned cabin I shared earlier today. The rustic red wood of the place really set such a beautiful tone. I thought paired nicely with a crisp white summer dress and navy cardigan. This is another BeBop dress (same as this yellow one, and the sister dress to this purple one... which I also have in white!) It's the perfect fit and length for a sweet, summer frock! The belt, of course, is one of my thrifted favorites and the cardi is one I shall never part with! The sandals are old, old OLD Old Navy sandals from so many moons ago! They miraculously survived the flood last year and this is the first I've worn them in ages. I felt very "Hollister" in this outfit with the beachy blonde hair but I wasn't opposed. High school me would have been proud, I'm sure.

By the time you read this Mike and I will be back on our way to Nashville. Settling into home for the evening and tending to errands, bills, shipping packages and filling orders. Then loading up once more tomorrow morning! I can't wait to share the excitement with you I have about what's coming up!

This weekend was kind of a blur. On Saturday we were outside with Mike's camera and I laid my iPhone on my car to help him pick up his camera gear since it started coming one heck of a storm all of a sudden. Hardest rain and wind I've seen in a while. I realized I didn't have my phone for a few hours and we left the house for some lunch and he found it on the hood of my car. Drenched. Hours and hours in a bowl of rice and to no avail. My sweet little iPhone 4 was busted. (I'm notoriously bad with iPhones. I've lost them, run them over with my car... yes, really, thrown them in buckets of Pinesol water, and now, left them in a tornado). I think it irritates the beejesus out of Mike.. ha! My parents were angels though and offered to buy me a new one to replace mine. I cried a lot. I felt like such a screw up. You see, I'm kind of absent minded. I don't mean to be. Mike chocks it up to me wearing dresses. He said if I wore pants then I'd have a pocket to put my phone in. But since I only wear dresses, my phone simply has nowhere to go. I doubt I'll change my style up anytime soon so here's to hoping I can keep my new white phone in one piece (and dry! and in my possession!)

Anyone else out there super absentminded? Humor me... tell me the most ridiculous thing you've ever done. GO!

  1. my mom used to tell me i would lose my head if it wasn't attached. ha! this is why i absolutely love finding dresses and skirts i love that have pockets...its a total score! even my wedding dress had pockets...which saved me from bringing a tiny little clutch filled with things borrowed and blue that i surely would have left behind. ;)

  2. When I wear a dress, I tuck my phone in my bra strap just above The Girls. It's not super-noticable and it's out of the way!

  3. These pics are so cute! Do you ever get spooked out from when you're out and about in these abandoned places?

I'm usually pretty on top of my game when keeping up with my stuff - my fiance on the other hand is not so great! I'm constantly, "Got your phone, keys, wallet?" as he's out the door, lol :) I think it makes for a good quality in a couple! I will admit to my absent-mindedness though! The other day at the ATM I withdrew money and got so excited about the money that I plum drove off without my ATM card! I was a nervous wreck about it, but luckily my bank got me all fixed up in a jiffy! ;) Don't fret - you're talented and beautiful and great at so many other things! We all have our strong points and weaknesses :)

  4. I feel your pain about the iPhones... I too, am on my 4th or 5th one. How sweet of your parents to offer to buy a new one. I cried everytime I broke one too- it's okay :)

  5. I always put my phone between my chest (not breasts, because I have none, waah) and the top of my dress when I'm moving around my house/office and want to keep it, or chapstick, or a half eaten pack of twizzlers...whatever, with me. Perfect No-Pocket-Phone (or other stuff)-Holdin'-Solution.

I'm absent minded too, every single time we leave the house, and have already gotten in the car..and driven away.. I ask my husband if I locked the door or not. Sometimes I ask him multiple times in the same trip. That has to be the worst.

  9. I'm super absentminded, but the worst was when I thought I'd lost my phone. I was looking for it all day, then when I opened the fridge at dinner time, realised I had put it in there while pulling out my lunch to take to work with me. Oops!

  10. I've actually run my Palm Pixi over... It was pretty traumatizing. I've since become very paranoid about where my phone is at all times. I'm determined never to run it over again. Here's hoping!

  11. That's a tough one, I do ridiculous pretty much weekly. I did throw my hubs paycheck away while cleaning- he dug it out of the trash, moved it, and I threw it away again the same day when I cleaned that room.
    Love love that cardi

  12. I'm not seriously absent minded, but I can almost never get out the door without coming back for my phone. And sometimes my keys.

I've pretty much decided that pockets are an almost deal breaker when it comes to dresses. Unless I absolutely can't live without the dress, it goes back on the rack if it doesn't have pockets.

  13. I also keep my iPhone in my bra! It makes me feel safe, haha. I read a story in a teen mag back in the day about a girl who was driving, flipped over in a ditch, and was stuck in her seat and no one found her for several days. (alive, btw) For some reason it scared the heck out of me so I always keep my iPhone in my bra so it will always be near when I need it in case of emergency. Sorry for the sad story. :(

  14. I'm a klutz and a half, but not too absentminded. My sister, on the other hand, has lost or accidentally destroyed about 2 dozen phones! My favorites incidents were when she put one through the wash (so tell Mike pockets might not be too good after all!) and another one she FLUSHED down a toilet (also due to the phone being in her pocket, haha). I don't think she'll ever live those down.

  15. My boyfriend bought me a new iPod. I went away for a few days to my grandparents' and then London and realised I didn't have my iPod on me.

My sister called me the day I got back and said she'd also been to our grandparents' and was making the bed and found my iPod jammed down the back of it. THANK GOODNESS!

  16. I've got a good one: In my old car, if the keys were in the ignition, then the doors wouldn't lock. I didn't know this when I first got it, so one day after parking at the mall, I had no idea why my doors wouldn't lock. So I got out, walked around, and locked each door by hand. Then I realized why it didn't lock. My keys were still in the ignition. Big facepalm that caused my to have to wait for AAA to come unlock it.

  19. You can get insurance through Best Buy no matter where you bought your phone/who your carrier is (if it's new?). $15 a month I think and the replacement is free no matter who your carrier is. I found this out while buying a case for mine at Best Buy (though I already have insurance through Verizon) - you have to get it within 30 days of buying the phone though, I think...

  20. I forget stuff all the time, its ridiculous! my friend Nancy has some type of string thing that hooks on to her phone and she wears it around her neck,I call it a neckchain for phones maybe you should get one of those its like an iphone accessory.

  22. I also have bad luck with phones and demolishing them. One time I was at the little theme park here and I bought a pop which they didn't allow on the chairlift, but the pop was 5 dollars so I wasn't going to throw it out! I went to the back of the line, shoved the drink in my purse and got on the ride. Of course, it spilled all over my purse and drowned my poor little phone! Lesson learned!

  24. This outfit looks really pretty with your blonde hair, but I think it'd look great with red too! I adore that cardigan you have on as well. It's adorable with the pretty white dress. Super summery and cute outfit today!

  25. For some reason, I've always assumed you carried a bag around with you that you just never photographed yourself with. Apparently not! (well, you might do, but I'd assume your phone would have been in your bag if you had one!).

My friend and I once completely freaked out because we thought we'd lost our car keys somewhere along a boardwalk in South Carolina. We went back around the whole thing, looking everywhere for it. Then we got back to the car, and found it unlocked with the keys on the drivers seat! How lucky were we that the car wasn't stolen?!

  26. Gargh! All I want is bike pants after looking at your blog...I love how you wear them under your dresses! Hehe I'm very good at losing possessions, once I lost my purse at a night club, some one put it in a post box and the post office rang me up to tell me they had it! Phew!!

  28. I am sorry about your phone! My boyfriend is always complaining about how I never have pockets too.

I was actually just making a blog post detailing the various ways in which I have managed to kill computers. Including dropping my laptop off my couch and completely shattering the screen and then a few months later spilling water on my new laptop. Don't worry - we all have are absent minded moments!
