Crafty Creatives

I inquired on Twitter yesterday what everyone's favorite crafty business books were in terms of running your own business, financial plans, etc, and I had an overwhelming amount of people point in the direction of these books so I snagged them up on Amazon yesterday for cheap! I also love the free Amazon Prime 2-day shipping so I might have 3 of these as early as tomorrow! Woot!

Have you read any of these? Love them? Hate them? Recommend any others?

I'd love to hear your feedback!

As seen above:
Craft, Inc. Business Planner, Craft, Inc., Creative, Inc., and The Handmade Marketplace

PSST! These could make a great Valentine's gift for the crafty person in your life! Jump on the Amazon Prime shipping and you'll have it in time for the lovey dovey holiday!

  1. I own Handmade Marketplace and I also have another book called Crafty Superstar by Grace Dobush. Both of them are easy reads and have some great advice. You should check out Crafty Superstar as well if you don't already own it.

  2. no, have not read any of these but I wrote them down because I think it is precisely what I need. I really want to sell my handmade stuff but don't even know where to start. I work retail right now and I'm miserable. I can't get any of the tattoos or piercings that I want!

  5. I have all 4 books and I love them, although the "freelance" book I accidentally ordered and gave to a friend since my field is fashion design and the book seems more geared to graphic artist etc..

I highly suggest the workbook companion to Craft Inc. It's wonderful! Craft and Handmade Market Place are similar books though. I prefer Craft Inc.

Also if their any fashion designers out there I recommend you buy The Entrepreneur's Guide to Sewn Product Manufacturing. It's eye opening. So helpful!

Sorry about the long comment- I get excited :)

  8. I have the Craft Inc Business Planner and I actually really love it... but there are some sections that I almost wish had more pages/space. So for me, it's more of a springboard and I think Im going to get a binder going and use the different sections of the book to map out my business. Things are constantly evolving, ya know?

Anyways, there's my two cents. <3

You might also consider the indie business class that elsie flannigan leads.... i took it last year and learned a TON. plus you have have a million opportuities to ask questions and get feedback from people who actually know what theyre doing.

there's another two cents for you. thats four! i'd give you more but im saving up for my canon rebel. ha.

  9. I have Craft Inc. and Crafty Superstar and both are great reads although they are aimed at the American market so for a UK maker/seller there were a few sections that weren't relevant but other than that I found them really helpful and reassuring.

I've looked at both the Craft Inc planner and The Handmade Marketplace so would be really interested in hearing your opinion on them!

  12. Ah - good advice! :) I own *all* of them, and they're all ace in their own way. 'Craft, Inc.' is the best, in my opinion. 'Creative, Inc' is based solely on freelance work advice, and also rocks. :) Have fun reading!!

  13. No lie, I keep Handmade Market place on my desk and or laptop bag and never take it out. I read different chapters in different orders and write notes constantly over things i overlook or skip to read. It has been a big help since I do a podcast, and really has great advice (also, can't complain about the adorable illustrations by Emily @ the Black Apple.)

    +, it's extremely affordable.
Thanks for the extra posts! I will definitely be looking into the other books :)
