Triforce + Trifecta

Lately I've been thinking about how glad I am I went back to being a brunette. My hair care routine has dwindled down to nothing but washing it, and that's awesome haha I feel very "me" with brown hair. I know I've said that about red and pink and even blonde, too. But sometimes a good ol' fashioned brown will do the trick. The only probably I'm having now is my hair being an insane amount of tangled in just a day or two. Particularly the back of my head (where I sleep on it, of course). I use Biolage Detangler in the shower (and it's a heaven send!) but my hair is so dry during normal wear 'n tear that it tangles with fervor! I don't use any hair product at all (no hairspray, pomade or anything) but I still can't fight it! Anyone have any recommendations?  I'm so over pulling out a ton of hair as I try to comb it out in the shower haha

(I feel like I should elaborate on what I do just a smidge so that can be taken into consideration: I use deep conditioning masks on my hair about 2x a month, and my hair is silky smooth from the BedHead product I use in the shower, but then my hair gets mega oily from it, so I use dry shampoo to clean it up a bit, then I'm back to square one! haha There doesn't seem to be a middle ground! :P)

So I have something to admit about this outfit... I wore it a lot this weekend. A lot. I wore it Friday for our Honeybean event, then after the crappy morning we had on Saturday I put it back on to go out and about with Mike. Thennnn I maybe put it back on for just an hour (or three!) to run to Costco and the like on Sunday. There are a lot of triangles in this outfit, which make me think of Zelda (anyone else?) and then I just think "Triforce!" Hence the name of the outfit. Do you think I'm totally gross yet? haha Luckily I did do laundry Sunday morning, but still. I'm that girl. Outfit repeater to the extreme!

Today I plan on listening to New Found Glory and Blink 182 all day! (Anyone else see them on tour together in ~2002? Yeah, I was 14 but my mom took me (coolest mom ever) and it was amazing.) Nothing gets between me and my old school pop-punk. Not sure I'll get any work done between all of the singing and chair dancin' I'll be doing. Wish me luck!

  1. I have the same hair problem! That and static so I have resorted to leave in conditioner and it works wonders! No more static and no where near as much tangles.

    1. I typically do that once every two or three weeks, but then my hair gets SO oily! haha So I use dry shampoo to combat the oily mess and I'm right back where I started. Tricky system for me! :P

  2. This might sound silly but I used to have a similar problem back in middle school when my hair was super long and I didn't know about products yet. Sometimes at night, I would split my hair into two segments and braid each one so that they were out of my way. I did it behind my back but you could go in front of your shoulders if that works better. It helped keep my hair from getting quite so knotty.

  3. I like you as a brunette! It's such a good color for you :)

Have you tried Redken Anti-Snap? I may have already asked you this before (I'm all about that stuff!) haha. It totally saved my hair when I was going through a bad damage phase. You don't use much, so the bottle lasts forever - and Sally's has a generic version if the $18 price gives you sticker shock. Another thing I did when I had long hair was to braid it before I went to bed. Depending on how tightly you braid, you end up with some pretty neat waves. And hey, no morning tangles :)

  5. I wear my hair in a loose low ponytail or braid when I sleep at night, and I ALWAYS brush my hair free of tangled BEFORE I shower. Minimizes the damage. :o) Hope that helps!

  7. I have a really hard time with tangles as well, and I have to use products that are safe on color and fragrance free... But I have found that this conditioner fits the bill with all my needs: https://www.paulaschoice.com/product/smooth-finish-conditioner/body-hair-care
You can leave it in or wash it out depending on your needs. Its a little pricey, but It goes on sale from time to time so I stock up when it does. Hope that helps.

  10. Love the dress! Sometimes I repeat outfits or statement pieces within the same week or weekend. Haha. Sometimes it just takes a lot of the pressure of dressing up out. For your hair, try a deep conditioning mask. Maybe you need to re-hydrate your hair so its smoother and doesn't tangle as much. - Carla

  12. i've been having a kind of similar problem with my hair..
i'm thinking it just might be winter time which causes my hair to get very oily.
i'm not sure if that makes any sense though :') but haven't found a solution for it yet!

i love your outfit - great combination of black, white and yellow!

  13. NFG has been my favorite band since I was 13. I love them so much. I love this outfit and am always a sucker fr blac, white, and yellow. (I thought of zelda as soon as I read "triforce".)

About the hair, make sure you do it before the shower use a giant wide tooth comb when you do comb your hair. Try only applying the bedhead product to your ends when you use it. Your scalp normally needs no help restoring natural oils.

  14. my hair gets super duper tangled as well, and I HATE it! I went a bit shorter for a while, and that kept the tangles at bay, but now that it's growing back out again, I'm back to square one! I use chlidren's detangler that I can pick up at walmart for like 2 bucks, but nothing seems to keep the tangles out ALL DAY.

  17. Don't comb your hair when it's wet. You think it's gonna be 10x worse after it dries, but it's not! It's so much easier! I discovered that from one of my patients who has super-long hair with mega tangles.

Now I only comb before I get into the shower and then after it air-dries. Actually a lot of the time I don't even comb it after it's dry. As it's drying, I finger-comb and twist sections of it. I have similar hair texture to yours, I think. After it's dry I use a little bit of John Frieda "Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme" on my ends, and twist it again.

I feel like my hair is greasy lately too. I don't know if it's actually IS, or if I'm so used to having it be dry and frizzy that when it's shiny and healthy-looking (because of the lack of humidity) that I just THINK it looks greasy.

  18. Have you thought about embracing the curly girl method? It's done wonders for my hair care routine, and so many of the products are really affordable.

  19. I really like the deep conditioning treatment called Henna 'n' Placenta. That sounds really gross, but it smells awesome and it helps my hair. I'm in hair rehab right now, but I have the same problem as you, but I feel like it only gets oily when I don't blow dry.

  20. I can't be much help when it comes to hair. I've been having lots of issues myself. :(

BUT the outfit is fantastic, and I loooove Legend of Zelda! Best set of games ever. Are you playing one right now? I've been playing Skyward Sword for a good while now.

  21. I don't have curly hair, but I do have super dry hair because of all the different colors I have been/things I have done to it- but like you most products make my scalp and hair too oily. I now use Dove Intensive repair shampoo and conditioner (the one with the dark blue on the label)and it works wonders for me. Good Luck!

  23. As a hairstylist my go-to product is organic unrefined coconut oil, strangely enough! There are all sorts of fancy products out there but coconut oil is the best!!! I even wrote a blog post about it (http://cheerupoldbean.blogspot.com/2012/09/coconut-oil-gift-from-hair-gods.html) I absolutely slather my hair in it and then braid it and sleep with the coconut oil in and shampoo out the next day. Sometimes if I don't have anywhere I have to be I keep it in my hair all weekend long.

I have even put a very small amount in the ends of my hair and used it like a smoothing product- a little goes a long way though and only use it on the ends of your hair if you are using it like a styling/smoothing product.

Well that's my two cents!! I hope that helped and hopefully I wasn't a broken record, as I went straight to the comment section without reading everyone else's answer, I was so excited to pass on my love of coconut oil! haha!!

  24. My hair used to start dreading itself within a couple days when it was long, always in the back (from sleeping on it). I would only ever brush through it in the shower with conditioner in it. I've heard that shampoo w/ sulfates is awful for curly hair, and I've almost just cut shampooing out of my routine because my hair doesn't really need to get stripped all the time, it rarely gets that dirty. I use a sulfate free shampoo (Beautiful curls), and the only product I use is the occasional Argan Oil before blowdrying. Sometimes a product can dry out your scalp too much and so your body will compensate by producing more oils, which makes you use products that dry out the oils, so your body produces more oils to make up for it.... vicious cycle??? Haha. I don't know if that's true but it makes sense to me. I hear initially your hair is super greasy and gross, but once your body balances itself out and stops over-producing oil, things go back to normal.

  25. I have a ton of fine, poofy hair. It gets tangles like you would not believe. I used to get this weird little almost dreadlock thing at the nape of my neck every single day. I swear by "It's a 10 Miracle Leave in Product". I seriously haven't found anything that works better! We even use it at school to detangle mannequin hair... and if you have ever seen mannequin hair, you know how nasty and matted it can get. Especially after you perm and color them. It is amazing.

  26. I have the same problem with my hair and I've just bought this http://www.beautybay.com/haircare/joico/kpak4stepsystem/ after hearing a lot if good things about it. I'm finding that using a good heat protector spray and a bit of moriccon oil on the very ends is really helping. X

  27. Your hair looks great brown!! :) I love using surf spray on my hair and scrunching it so its messy, but it gets really tuggy too. I use a spray leave in conditioner only on the bottom half and comb it with a wide tooth comb before I blow dry it :) the conditioner stops my hair drying out with the surf spray and its easy to comb. I don't condition my scalp at all, otherwise it gets really oily! Good luck! :)

  29. hairdresser here! use unite's seven seconds. best. leave-in. conditioner. ever! its pricey and you have to go to their site to see which salon retails it but it literally detangles you in seven seconds! and always brush your hair before you shower and let your hair air dry as much as possible. braiding will help because the back tangles most because it knots itself from sleeping on it.

and i just saw nfg yesterday here in la! my favorite band since '99!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ok, firstly, I love that you love New found glory! They are my favourite band and everybody should love them! :) I saw them at Warped Tour Uk a few weeks ago and they were just as awesome as every other time I've seen them, those guys have still got it!! (I also have the same birthday as Cyrus Bolooki :D haha...) I'm gunna stop fan-girling now.

You should try using your same condition but don't put it on any hair higher than the top of your ears. That's the hair that gets it's natural oils from your scalp so overloading it with a good conditioner can be too much for it and it becomes oily. It's really your ends that need conditioner more than anything! A lady told me to do that once when I was in Lush and my hair never oils up anymore!! (Only if I've been totally gross and haven't washed my hair on a day I was supposed to...)

Maybe the dry shampoo is drying out your hair too much which is why it's tangling a lot? If ever I use dry shampoo it makes my hair SO tangly because it becomes way too dry?

I hope you find a solution though! I absolutely hate having to brush out tangles so I feel your pain! X

  31. I love your outfit :) I also vote for braiding your hair at night that happened to me when I had long hair and my hairdresser recommend it and I never looked back :) it is also worth knowing the cuticle on your hair is also still slightly rough from bleaching it something I also do so you just find it matts :( hope you find a solution

  32. I would totally wear that dress three days in a row too! I went back to my natural brunette about a year ago, after years and years of having red or blonde hair. And you are right, it is SO nice not having to worry about colouring it all the time! Sadly, I can't offer any suggestions for the tangles though... I have the same issue!

  33. Aw man, I know what you mean about brown hair. I loooove being unnatural colours, but it's just so little fuss to pop on a brown then only have to worry about washing and going. When I first go brown, I adore it, then all it takes is for me to see some pretty bright hair and out comes the bleach. *sigh* If only fun colours were as easy as brown!

  34. Haha hooray for old school pop-punk! Some days you just have to take a trip down memory lane and listen to the old favorites.
Also, you're definitely allowed to wear this dress three days in a row because it's adorable. I love the stripes paired with the yellow cardigan. A perfect combination!

  35. I try not to wash my hair more than every other day and sometimes I just shampoo the top and rinse the bottom. Since I got my hair hombre colored, its been so dry on the bottom that some days it feels like hay. I've noticed a big improvement with my tangles and dryness doing this. I keep more of my own oils and I need to use way less product.

  36. I'm from Germany and forever21 isn't really that popular here. But after seeing all your beautiful dresses (Okay this one isn't but the bracelet! :D) I just had to try their stuff.
Today I got my first forever21 dress and I immediately had to return it because it won't fit D:
I wasn't quite sure whether to buy from their usual sizes (S,M,L) or at the Plus sizes. I found one very nice dress and picked it in "L" as it wasn't available as a Plus but unfortainetly I have to loose an inch on my waist.
But I feel like they have much lovelier regular size stuff than Plus size. This makes me sad.

    1. I'm so sorry to hear that :( Don't let one dress put you off of them entirely. Their sizing is *so* wonky. I have dresses from F21 in my closet ranging from XS (seriously... How?!) to L and they all fit differently. Though I bet the shipping charges are not fun! Unfortunately it seems like straight size clothing gets the better look and plus size gets the shaft most of the time. FuckYeahChubbyFashion.Tumblr.com has a ton of resources for straight and plus size clothing if you wanted to check it out. :)

also, do you get your ends trimmed? i was having a terrible time with my hair getting really tangled and getting little mats in my curly hair, but now i get my hair trimmed every 10 weeks, and it doesn't happen anymore! the split ends were what was getting so tangled.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wish trimming would help but it's always tangled at the root! Usually at the crown of my head and then at the base of my skull/nape of my neck. So weird! I think it's just too dry and I roll around on it in my sleep haha

That's so funny that you were there, too! I drove past where Starwood used to be just the other day and reminisced on all of the shows I saw there!
