// Do you knit?! Want to save a precious little creature?! Knitters are wanted for penguin pullovers... to help them in rehabilitation. You can ship from anywhere in the world and they even provide a knitting pattern for you! SO rad!  Actually don't do this! Apparently they had an overwhelming influx of penguin sweaters and 15,000+ won't ever see the light of day. Yikes!

// I feel like I only ever link to Carrie Anne's maternity style posts, but she's just so dang adorable! I love this most recent one especially! Pink and beige... and that scarf :D

// Super simple banana bread. I plan on trying this recipe because last time I made banana bred, the top/inside was still soggy... even though I baked it for (a little bit longer) than suggested.

// Joelle's post about anxiety is one I totally suggest you read.

// 17 things you learn from growing up in the south. This seemed to really anger a lot of commenters on the article... but then again what article doesn't?! I'm just going to say this: I've lived in the south my entire life and *yes, yes, yes!* haha 13-15 especially.

// Wishlist Wears: squaring is caring dress // this one piece bathing suit reminds me of the uniforms from two broke girls // no clue how/where i'd wear this, but this lace fan is gorgeous // embroidered lace + this sunshine yellow = perfect dress // this nautical skirt // the perfect summer sandal

// I saw the macarons in Karen's latest post and instantly had a killer craving for them. I've gotta learn how to make those pesky things!

// Unpopular opinion: Being a spoiled gen-Y stereotype has made me a better mother. I thought this was an interesting perspective, and I'd love other opinions!

What are you loving this week?

  1. That first image pretty much read my mind.

  2. I love the food post, if only because over Christmas I bought a box of Oreo-Os cereal from South Korea :) A guy I was seeing mentioned that it was his favorite, so I sought it out and discovered the Amazon source. We stopped hanging out before they were delivered (they take a month + to get to the States), so I got a nice bowl full of memories for a week or so!

  3. Those tattoos are BEAUTIFUL. I don't have any tattoos (yet), but I've been thinking of what I would get for a while. Those seem like me :)

  4. The list about the South is 100% true! I can understand some people having a different experience (not so much the getting mad part, chill out) but that was definitely what it was like growing up in Georgia.

Thanks for the link to Joelle, I have a new blog to add to my reader!

  5. I have lived in Texas the majority of my life and I would have to agree with the southern post 100%. I was thinking 'Oh great stereotypical making fun of the South post" but it was spot on.

  6. Those tattoos are by Alice Carrier! I'm obsessed with her work and plan to take a trip to Portland just to get tattooed by her.

  7. That "5 Things Not To Say Or Do To A Pregnant Woman" article? Spot. On. ESPECIALLY that last one. My absolute biggest beef (well beyond complete strangers rubbing my belly without asking. Seriously - what the actual...?) is the birth horror story thing. It's true, absolutely no woman who gets pregnant thinks labour and delivery might hurt. Of course we need you to tell us how awful it is, because we're convinced it's rainbows and lollipops. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HONESTY. Okay, but seriously? Every if every pregnancy is different than every delivery gets to be, too. Delivery doesn't have to suck. Mine didn't. Instead of "oooh boy! That is going to be The Worst day of your life" MAYBE we can go with "you are going to rock the crap out of that labour! Do everything you need to do for you and that precious babe, you are not being judged." (Hah. Sorry. Soap box. This has been making me crazy since I found out I was pregnant. So many people had The Worst things to say. I had to stop listening. Thankfully I do have a pretty awesome group of women in my life who are super crunchy and empowering.)

    Great list of Awesome!

  9. As the wife of a transwoman, I got really excited for the DC ads. They were launched in 2012 though. I wish cities would do campaigns like this more!

  10. I always love thrusday mornings getting to read this stuff. I am loving that honey jar. And the DC transgender ads are awesome - makes me feel like good things are happening in the world seeing stuff like that coming out of my hometown area! The South - as a Northern (Maryland) transplant I can attest that most of these are true... I have leather seat in my Jeep, dark gray, leather seats, and GOOD GRACIOUS that stuff gets hot!!! I need to get seat covers!

  11. The South one I find kind of funny, because some of it is just rural more than South - trust me, we have plenty of old dudes sittin' around talking gossip in Illinois, too, haha. So I think some of it's more "country living" than "southern living". But a lot of it, I will say as a semi-Yankee transplant (I don't actually think IL counts as Yankee, really), is SPOT ON and stuff I never noticed people did until I moved here. Because everyone does it.

ESPECIALLY the constant unending need to know my last name and therefore where my people are from. I end up having to give htem my husband's mother's maiden name, because the Bayne family has been around the upstate forever and everyone goes, "oooooh okay, well then" and suddenly I am accepted.

    It is the weirdest thing.

  12. So, I got SUPER excited about knitting a penguin sweater and posted your link on my FB page.

A friend replied "PLEASE DON'T!" and sent me this link - http://www.giantflightlessbirds.com/2011/10/the-great-penguin-sweater-fiasco/

Just wanted you to know! I know how big-hearted you are from reading your blog and wanted you to be informed. :) Thanks!

    1. Oh wow! Thanks for sharing this! Amazing that SO many we're sent, but disheartening to hear they're useless! I'll amend the post when I get back to the office! Many thanks to you and your friend for helping spread the word!

    2. Here's another update to your penguin story: http://www.oregonlive.com/knitting/index.ssf/2014/03/penguin_sweaters_yes_theyre_re.html

The particular charity asking for sweaters does want penguin sweaters but not for actual penguins per say but rather for penguin toys to resell in order to raise money for penguins.

  13. The strawberry house is incredible! I've actually been talking with my boyfriend about buying land and building our house on the land. Maybe we'll live in another fruit : )

  16. One of my fav quotes from things not to say to a pregnant woman- "Seriously?! The questions about what I am doing with my uterus began the night of my wedding and they just never end." It's SO true. I got that and it's like I just got hitched and I'm a full time college student. Then it just got hurtful when we did start trying and were struggling to get pregnant. I'd like to add to the list, though. Just because you've heard of a woman in the news having a "cryptic pregnancy" (which does happen as odd as it sounds, it happened to a friend of mine who I saw just 2 months before she announced she had a baby and she's a TINY woman and was just as tiny as ever when I saw her that 2 months before) don't tell women that maybe the "aches and pains of pregnancy are all in your head". I can tell you the nerve K keeps pushing on that brings me to tears at 39 weeks is NOT in my head. Lol.
