I know many of you are probably tired of hearing about wedding stuff, and to be honest, I don't really blame you. But aside from wrapping up the last of my design clients this week, my entire life is going to revolve around that wedding until October 6th comes and goes. Yesterday we spent the day in Mount Pleasant clearing brush, cutting down berry bushes, and making an overall plan for the barn we're getting married at. It's in the middle of a farm/field, and it's a functioning barn for hay storage, etc, so our work was really cut out for us. Mike had driven down to Lawrenceburg with Toby Saturday night while I was at work, and then after I finished at work I drove down, too. We headed over to the farm with his dad (and his dad's dog) when we woke up, then my parents joined us. Weedeaters, chainsaws, gloves galore! We actually made a ton of progress in only 3.5 hours or so! And it wasn't unbearably hot so we didn't even break a sweat. And I even wore pants for once!
Major thanks to our parents for helping. Seriously, we wouldn't be able to do this without them! Now we just have to solidify our rain plan... please please please Mother Nature, don't let it rain.
My plan this week is to finish absolutely as much design work as I possibly can each and every day, and then just throw myself into wedding crafting. I wish I could have a big ol' crafting party with blog readers/friends! That'd be fun haha And probably so productive!
Now for wedding music...
We have about ~75 songs/3 pages or so on our list to play, but we're trying to see if we've forgotten any really good ones. We're doing some pretty traditional ones for "indie" weddings like EITS, Lucero, Ray LaMontagne, etc, but we're also do a lot of 90's pop songs. We're not Top 40 people at all, so instead of having those less-than-appropriate songs we're going to focus more on things that were popular when we were growing up. Who doesn't love 90's pop?!
If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! I've already prowled the archives of Hi-Fi Weddings, but I'm open to any and all recommendations! Anything to get people to dance!
Alrighty, off to do that design work now! Happy Monday!
Alrighty, off to do that design work now! Happy Monday!
your wedding playlist looks awesome so far :) i don't think i've been to a wedding dominated by 90's pop yet, but it would be super fun!!
ReplyDeletei know you're not into top 40, but having gone to over 100 weddings in the past 3 years, some of the best reactions/dancing have been do these songs: firework by katy perry, sweet caroline by neil diamond, every teardrop is a waterfall by coldplay, yeah by usher, and of course, forever by chris brown.
ReplyDeletecan't believe your wedding is getting so close!!
I love your song choices, also I would totally play 90s tunes to get people dancing at my wedding! :D
ReplyDeleteFaye x
This song I played at my wedding and it is such a PERFECT song. It's beyond sweet. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Features- The Idea of Growing Old
Not sure if they were on your list or not but I love...
ReplyDeleteRegina Spektor - Fidelity
Ingrid Michaelson - The Way I am
and a fun on by Ingrid is You and I
Just a couple of my favorites! =D Excited for you two!
Love & Lollies... Jessa
I'm so excited for you! And a little jealous. I wish I could get married again (to the same man, of course!) just because planning was so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThat is the best playlist ever! So many good songs. 90s music is so much fun, especially compared to today's music. You guys are going to have such an awesome wedding! :)

ReplyDeleteThese two are 90s but they're not top 40 either :)
ReplyDeleteBest That I Can -- Backstreet Boys (OR hello, any of their 90s hits)
Lifetime -- Emili Sande
You have to play Train- Drops of Jupiter
ReplyDeleteSuch Great Heights by Iron and Wine was my wedding song!
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know if Jason Mraz is too mainstream/recent for you, but Beautiful Mess is a really really good song.
A bit of Paul Simon never hurt anyone! x
ReplyDeleteA little Ace of Bass and Montel Jordan's This is how we do it always gives me a nineties vibe ;) I can't wait to read all about your wedding!
ReplyDeleteWe picked all of our wedding music (5 years ago) so I am behind this! Here were some that got the most positive feedback.
ReplyDeleteOzma :: Apple Trees
The Fire Theft :: Heaven
Bad Religion :: Infected
Lifetime :: Hey Catrine
The Promise Ring :: Happiness is all the Rage
They Might Be Giants :: Another First Kiss
Rilo Kiley :: I Never
And, of course, our wedding song- Jets to Brazil :: Sweet Avenue
The barn is perfect! I cannot wait to see how sweet your wedding turns out!

This might be obvious to someone who lives in Nashville, but Tennessee by Silver Jews is such a sweet song, and is actually made all the more perfect by the fact of your location!
ReplyDeleteI Love seeing wedding plans and am so excited for you. I can't wait to see more beautiful photos and will be wishing for wonderful weather for you. :)
ReplyDeletelove your wedding spot, can't wait to see everything! i've never heard the iron+wine version, so sweet. postal service/death cab songs always makes me think of our wedding, lots of 90's music too!!

i want you/chica cherry cola!-savage garden

You know I'm down for craft night or "nights" as it might be. I really want those champagne-St. Germain deliciousness that you were talking about. How about a pitcher of that stuff, reality tv, cats, and crafting?
ReplyDeleteI love Mates of State so much! Cute to have a real music couple be on your wedding music list too.
ReplyDelete+Victoria+
Oh, so exciting to see a bit of wedding things (I'm not sick of it...doubt anyone is!)
ReplyDeleteLove the wedding playlist!
ReplyDelete1. I hope "No Scrubs" makes it on the list
ReplyDelete2. I am generally off work by 1 or 2 in the afternoons so if you seriously need any help then you better let me know!
3. i'm so excited for you!
I am NOT TIRED of hearing about wedding stuff!! This playlist makes total sense. Joshua Radin & Mates of State, duh.
ReplyDeleteRobyn, robyn, robynnnn. But I already told you once upon a time on Twitter that I'm obsessed, haha.
ReplyDeleteEverybody loves 90's pop! Haha I know how you feel about wedding posts though. I'm getting married the 10th of November and I feel that's all I talk about now haha. Sadly I have no suggestions for music as I haven't even begun to think about that. The only thing set in stone is Christina Perri's A Thousand Years as our 1st Dance song lol. I can't wait to see how your wedding turns out! :)
ReplyDeletei think ur wedding gonna amazing party wedding

Whoa whoa whoa... do I spy Patsy Cline?? Major love. I'm so excited for your wedding, Kaelah!
ReplyDeleteThe barn looks amazing, going to be such a beautiful place for your wedding. Hoping the sun comes out for you. Your wedding playlist looks great so far!

I really recommend making a bunch of pandora radio stations with your preferred artists and just see what pops up and then you can write them down when they do! I have a 90s hip hop one and tons of new stuff comes up every day!

Michael Jackson and Jimmy Eat World?! That sounds like an awesome playlist! :) If you don't already, Spice Girls would be a great 90's music addition!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a musician and has had the opportunity to play two weddings, this past year. A combo that won over the crowd both times was: "Twist and Shout," and then go straight into "Shout." The tunes are a bit older, but I can attest that everyone had fun dancing to them.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your preparations. :)
I'm so excited for you and your wedding! It's going to be so cute. Your wedding playlist looks pretty fantastic to me too. I love the idea of playing more indie songs and non-traditional wedding reception songs. I get sick of hearing that celebrate song or party train at every wedding.
ReplyDeleteA barn as unconvetional as it sounds, to me seems like the most unique place to get married and even though I don't know you guys that much, I think the barn suits you really well. Hope Mother Nature behaves on October 6th and that everything goes as you planned and even better! ^^ xx
ReplyDeleteYou're getting married on the same day as my sister :) I'm definitely NOT tired of hearing about your wedding, I love it!
ReplyDeletecute shoes and tattoos!!! Weddings are very pretty, but lots of work.
ReplyDeleteI prefer 80s romantics songs, but about 90s? mmm Do you like techno? XDD is fun to dance.
I've always thought that FNT by Semisonic would be lovely at a wedding :)
ReplyDeleteYour wedding is going to be amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI see Explosions in the Sky "hand in mine" on your list and it reminded me of the song I walked down the aisle to- so long, lonesome by Exp in the Sky too! Great taste!
:)

90's Pop is the bomb. You should get a live band to play some songs. Or you shouldn't. It's just something that I like.
ReplyDeleteI just love that you guys are getting married on my birthday!
ReplyDeleteAhhh! I love what I can see of your playlist! Bob Dylan "Wedding Song!" We almost had "Forever Young" as our first dance song, but then we kind of "forgot" to have a first dance song since we had a Karaoke wedding (we danced to my parents singing a duet, instead, which was actually pretty cool.)
ReplyDeleteAnd I just about swooned out of my chair when I saw "Sweetness" on your list. Memories!
that barn looks incredible!
ReplyDeleteif i were designing my wedding play list, it would probably consist mostly of david bowie, talking heads, and motown classics. how can you NOT dance to james brown?
http://dallianceswithsuitsandskirts.blogspot.com/
home + save the last dance for me - michael buble
ReplyDeletemarry you - bruno mars
i'll never you let you go - third eye blind
I love that the barn has hay stacked up in it! So fun. The barn we're using is a horse barn, so we'll have about 24 hours to clean out MOUNTAINS OF HORSE SHIT. Sounds fun, right?
ReplyDeleteI haven't even touched a playlist, but I need to. I love that you're using a lot of 90s songs...that will make it more personal! I joked to Rhett that I wanted to use Truly Madly Deeply in the wedding. Haha! He vetoed that idea, but I still might sneak it into the reception playlist :)
Kaelah,
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to lie, I have been planning my wedding playlist for about two years now. Music is SO important to me that I just have to plan right? Not sure if you've already got most of these, but you can check it out here http://spoti.fi/QRPxii . Can't wait to see what you play!
I know your wedding is going to be breath taking, the farm is such a beautiful location. I have been engaged for almost a year and although I'm not getting married for awhile I've started making little plans for the future and it is a lot of work/stressful. Playlists?! Thanks so much for reminding me that I need to get a playlist together!
ReplyDelete<3Honeysuckelle
i love your wedding posts! and i'm getting major music inspiration from this one.
ReplyDeletexo, cheyenne
That craft party for bloggers and friends is a really cool idea! Unfortunately almost impossibie:)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all the wedding prep. I'm sure you're gonna have an amazing day.
ReplyDeleteHere's 2 of my favourite songs I've had noted down for wedding songs since forever -

Ash - Shining Light

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Patio Song

ReplyDeleteHey Ya is actually a really good one to get people out on the dance floor, because all ages love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Colorblind by the Counting Crows and Island in the Sun by Weezer for weddings. Quirky yet not too inaccessible for the not quite indie guests.
Funny story, I was at a wedding where the DJ played the wrong Boys II Men song for the father daughter dance. Instead of the one they chose, he played "I'll Make Love to You." AWKWARD.
Oh also, as someone that has severe hay fever that will trigger asthma, I would suggest informing people that it's a working barn, so that anyone with a similar affliction can double up on the antihistamines and not forget their inhalers!
ReplyDeleteMusical Wedding Band Preparation is an absolute must when getting married to create the most optimum wedding environment. If you get the right band on board they will take out all the stress and planning and you can just leave them to it.
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to see wedding pics!! :)
