// Happy Two Years, Mr. Flynn

Two years ago I married my best friend. I used to side-eye people a little when they said they were married to their best friend, but now I get it. I am sharing my forever with the one person I love to laugh, cry, bicker and debate with. We always share a drink, and I chase him around the house with pickles (I love them and he thinks they're disgusting). We binge watch Netflix together when he's not studying, and I drill him with flashcards on disorders and medications I can barely pronounce. He's given me the gift of two precious little boys, and I can't wait to spend the rest of forever with him. I'd marry this man a thousand times over just to relive the excitement of our wedding day. I'll never get tired of these photos.

I had a big, long post whirling around in my head, but then I read what I wrote last year and it honestly summed up our relationship perfectly. No sense in trying to out do that one. I'll just say I'm looking forward to many more road trips and adventures and kids together. This one is a keeper! xo

It's crazy to me that one year ago today I stood in front of this man, my hands shaking and eyes welling up, to declare my unshakeable loyalty and love. I stumbled on my vows, despite the unbelievable amount of time I spent rehearsing, and I even managed to spit on him mid-sentence (seriously!). I ugly-cried and my voice shook the entire time, the clouds sprinkled on top of us and the wind chilled us to the bone, we lost my wedding band at the alter (and never found it) and the DJ bailed the day before... but you know what? It was the best day. We laughed, we danced (oh, we danced!), and my nearest and dearest friends sang karaoke with me at the bar afterward. It really and truly was the very best day.

It seriously seems like just yesterday Mike was proposing to me under the illuminated Bradford Pear trees. Never did I expect the first year to zoom by so fast. In the past twelve months we've traveled, enrolled a kid in school (!!!), renovated a house, made huge business plans, argued about the laundry, and grown as man and wife, just to name a few. If you would have told me in 2006 that I would marry this boy, I'd have laughed in your face. I adored him, but we were just so young. Three years later and we were attached at the hip. It's been the same ever since! Sometimes our marriage just doesn't seem fair... it doesn't seem right that I could spend almost every waking moment with the same person and still stand the sight of him. I think we got really lucky in that regard. I've occasionally pondered what life would be like without Mike and I just can't. I can't fathom what my day to day life would entail. (I know what would happen to Mike without me though... He'd burn down the house! I swear that man does not realize there's an "Off" button on the oven... haha!)

In an effort to share just a little slice of our marriage, here are a few things I'm thankful for:
  • He always lets me have the outside of the Italian loaf bread. Mike likes the fluffy center so between us we've got it covered. It's the little things...
  • He cooks for me because despite my best efforts, I'm really just a lousy chef.
  • He indulges me in my love for all things pink and glittery.
  • He lets me put my freezing cold feet on him in the Winter to warm them up when we crawl into bed. (My toes are basically ice cubes... That man, I'm tellin' ya!)
  • He stands his ground where it counts, no matter how much I pester otherwise. (Sometimes I really do not need to have my way!)
  • He tolerates my insane coffee mug collection (and has even admitted to enjoying the morning routine).
  • He lets me sleep in a little bit later than him every morning if I want. Whether it's 30 minutes or 2 hours, he's incredibly considerate.
  • He's always happy to build any and everything my mind can conjure up. He's the very best handyman.
  • He zips up every pesky dress of mine that has a center-back zipper. (I have T-Rex arms apparently).
  • He's always "on" when I seem to be "off" (and vice versa) when it comes to being a parent. We balance each other out perfectly.
  • He blessed me with the gift of Toby. My life would not remotely be the same without that kid.
  • And even better, he allows me to be a mother to Toby. The very best gift of all!

I could write for days on end about how much I love this man, but I'll spare you all of the details because I'm already crying and we've got a bottle of wine to celebrate with! To make a long story short, I feel so very lucky to call this man mine. The first year was amazing. Here's to many, many more!

Happy anniversary, Mr. Flynn. Thanks for making me your Mrs.

// Our Wedding - Details

The final post from our wedding! I bet you thought you were done with being force fed these photos, huh? Well, just in time for Valentine's Day (you know, because this crazy hectic moving schedule totally nixed the entire 2-week V-Day line up I had planned... ugh!) I think the details are some of my favorites because they really showcase the little bits and bobs that may have gone unnoticed otherwise.

A few things worth noting about these photos/the details: I handmade our programs (and they were sewn, too!), and Mike built all of our signage. We decided to do favor baskets by using pulp berry baskets filled with glass bottled sodas (coke, root beer, cream soda, etc), moon pies and goo goo clusters (tennessee treats!), a mixtape that we created (with the custom illustrated cd sleeve!) and a copy of the October NATIVE magazine (a little shameless plug - but we had a 6 pg feature in the issue [which I conveniently forgot to share on here! Whoops!]) -- My stepdad and Mike built the picnic tables that were there, too. My grandma, my parents, my stepdad's parents, and we got to each keep one. I love that we'll always have that special handmade piece from our wedding. My parents made the delicious BBQ and Mike's family made the yummy salad + sandwiches (each 'wich was wrapped up and tagged). Beca (from Tumbleweeds) baked all of the sweet treats you see on our dessert bar. That was without a doubt the most beautiful part of the reception. Oh my stars. I wish I could have her bake me some macarons every single day. It wouldn't have been the same without Beca's amazing touch! And though Doug couldn't make it, he crafted us the most gorgeous knife to cut our wedding pie with. Those two are rockstars!

Thanks for tolerating all of these posts. I hope I didn't bombard you! I just realized that I never posted the last half of our honeymoon, so I'll put that in the queue for an upcoming day. Don't worry - it's not an overload of mushy photos or anything. Just gorgeous Mexican scenery caught on film. I can't believe we've already been married for four months! What?! Where has time gone?! -- Hope your week is going well! xo (photos by arrow & apple)

// Our Wedding : Reception

Most of these are silly photos, so beware! Screw flattering, right?! The dancing was without a doubt the cherry on top of our wedding sundae. It felt good to finally just let go, feel free, and DANCE! It was nice to feel like I could just throw caution to the wind after all of the stressful stuff came and went. Regardless of everything that happened (or didn't) at the wedding, this made it so worth it.

Look closely and you can even see Mike doing Gangnam Style, and I maybe whip out a "Bernie" or two... yes, everyone thought I was crazy. Luckily Chris (Susannah's boyfriend) knew the Bernie, too, so he did it with me. It was my wedding! I could do whatever I wanted! ;P Though I'm probably a little bit crazy for sharing it with the world... You decide. (And yes, there was apparently a zombie apocalypse, too!)
