this! ♥
♥ this is an insane, but innovative, idea from Julijonas Urbonas
“Euthanasia Coaster” is a hypothetic euthanasia machine in the form of a roller coaster, engineered to humanely – with elegance and euphoria – take the life of a human being. Riding the coaster’s track, the rider is subjected to a series of intensive motion elements that induce various unique experiences: from euphoria to thrill, and from tunnel vision to loss of consciousness, and, eventually, death. Thanks to the marriage of the advanced cross-disciplinary research in space medicine, mechanical engineering, material technologies and, of course, gravity, the fatal journey is made pleasing, elegant and meaningful. Celebrating the limits of the human body but also the liberation from the horizontal life, this ‘kinetic sculpture’ is in fact the ultimate roller coaster: John Allen, former president of the famed Philadelphia Toboggan Company, once sad that “the ultimate roller coaster is built when you send out twenty-four people and they all come back dead. This could be done, you know.”  (Please note that I'm not condoning taking your own life. This is an innovative design, even though it's super controversial!)

Other Awesome Things:
// Brooklyn's most expensive condo ever listed ($25 million) just got a price slash! Now you can live in this insane 7,000 sq ft clock tower penthouse... you know, if you have $19 million just sitting around. It's beautiful though!

// Loving this Polka Dot + Pin Curls outfit from Megan! She also has a fun giveaway going on!

// Get 20% off of your Adventurer Vintage order with the code "kaelahbee"! Maybe pick up these awesome floral shorts + these sweet white shoes?!

// Foodie Finds: This sounds insanely delicious // Berry Oatmeal Muffins // Red Velvet Dirt Cake // The best looking Summer Salsa I've ever seen

// This post from Marisa makes me miss being a camp counselor so bad! It was the funnest 4 summers ever. Granted the camp she photographed looks a wee bit more fun ;)

// Wishlist Wears: this silk lady bow tie // this cat watch is the BEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN! // If you prefer hearts over cats, this one might be more your style. or maybe bright pink. (I've never cared for watches, but I want all of them!) // these glasses remind me of karen walkers, but without the hefty price tag // black + gold metal clutch // andddd a cat print dress to wear with your cat print watch?!

// This vintage marquee DIY will be getting tackled in our house soon!

// White Faux Taxidermy is having a giveaway on their Facebook! (We're trying to find the best place to hang our moose right now!) Will share more soon!

  4. Haha oh man, AIM away messages. I've had SO many screen names. "barelywhispers" and other All American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday and New Found Glory related names. I miss those days sometimes...

And that's how I play Roller Coaster Tycoon, too! I still love that game. I also love The Sims. I used to make little 8x8 rooms and put them in there, take out the door, and add a refrigerator and an oven, and just wait... Ah, I'm so morbid! Hahah

  6. Absolutely love the quotes you've been posting lately. That Eleanor Roosevelt one was my favorite out of the two today. It's funny you posted a jellyfish. I love the ocean and have been looking up jellyfish pictures as of late :P

  11. I find it really ironic that you posted the picture Pistorius right under a theoretical contraption for people who want to end their lives. Life is always worth living. Pistorius had to overcome incredible odds to make it on South Africa's team. (Understatement of the week?) He is an example of the strength of humanity. Life is beautiful, even in suffering and pain, and it is perhaps the greatest tragedy for anyone to think that they can't overcome difficulties in life. We ought to promote ideas that help people overcome, not encourage them to give up.

That's my two cents, anyway. Cute Mini Cooper.

    1. The coaster wasn't shared to promote suicide or euthanasia. It was shared because it's so incredibly innovative. It's unlike anything that has ever been dreamt up before. How someone chooses to live (or end) their life is not for me to dictate. I would never promote giving up or cashing in, but I also don't think it's that simple when you're in a place like that. Terminal illnesses come to mind, etc etc etc. Even still, I don't find it ironic that they're shared together... that's life. Just like there are two sides to every coin, life is multi-faceted. What works, seems right, seems possible for one person doesn't stretch across the board. I think Pistorius is in a league all his own, and I was happy to share his story because it's so inspiring. But the coaster is just as inspirational because it pushes the average person to think bigger, father outside the box. That's what innovation is. Even when it's innovative in a way that we may not all agree with.

    2. I think it was the description under the diagrams that made it sound like euthanasia/suicide was being promoted as a good. Maybe those weren't your words? Or at least, I see now that that was not your intention.

I do agree that it is innovative. However, I do not believe innovation is necessarily good, per se. There have been plenty of objectively bad acts committed throughout history that were innovative.

I don't know why I'm being such a downer right now. Thank you for your thoughtful response.

    3. I can most certainly understand the confusion, Erica :) The words under the caption were not written by me, hence the quotations around the paragraph description. Though at a quick glance one might read them as such. You're very right that not all innovative ideas are good ones, so I think we can both agree that (in our eyes at least) the coaster is best left as a blueprint. Don't worry about being a downer, stating your opinion isn't a one way ticket.

  13. The giveaway at White Faux Taxidermy doesn't come up? Anyway I was glnna say I live their stuff, I did a post on them a couple of weeks back! I just wish they did goat heads! Maybe one day :)

  14. I play rollercoaster tycoon that way too! I make the food & bathrooms super expensive and force people to get lost. Haha that's still not as cruel as some of the videogames out today, though!

The other roller coaster idea is innovative, like you say, but very strange. I suppose I can appreciate that it's humane, but still it's kind of a mindboggling thing, that someone would actually design something that's supposed to be safe and thrilling, to kill.

I always love your TILT posts. :)

    Hope all is well

  15. I have a fear of jellyfish, as in if I was in the ocean and saw them I would run out of the water as fast as I could but they are amazing looking creatures and they photograph very well (models of the seaaaa). Rollercoaster Tycoon! Omg it has been ages since I played that game but I use to like making the roller coasters crash myself, the most evil of cackles would come out of me once it crashed *shakes head*.
That IRL coaster (not rollercoaster tycoon coaster, just to clarify :P) is insane, makes me feel a bit queasy just looking at it. That Brooklyn apartment is gorgeous, I don't care for the modern touches personally but the view, clocks, and that porch! If only I had a few million sitting around and the lady balls to live in NYC. I have the hardest time wearing watches although these are really cute, when I was younger and wearing a watch people would ask me what time it was and I'd always forget I was wearing a watch and be like "Beats me". That marquee DIY is heavenly, I have to try that. Oh and before I forget that doggie, loooooooooooove love.

  21. The euthanasia coaster is kind of creepy in that it makes me hope that it's built and I get old so if I get some awful disease I can ride it. Because I love roller coasters and it looks like the best one ever.
    Yeah, creepy.

  22. That Euthanasia roller coaster is fascinating, thank you for posting about it. I am a hospice social worker, and even though I know not all people share my unique views and experiences with people as they near the end of their lives, I know more than a few people who would choose to go out riding that if it existed.

  23. I've heard about the Euthanasia coaster. I think it's really cool in a bizarre, creepy way.
Also, that pink piano needs to get in my house right now even though I don't even really know how to play...
And Roller Coaster Tycoon. Oh how I loved playing that game. I, too, built incomplete roller coasters and sent my people flying off the edge. You could drop the people in the lakes too. Haaa. I need to find that game and play it again.
