Loft Tour: KB's [Updated] Wardrobe

A few months ago I shared my DIY wardrobe space in our loft, and I'm not gonna lie, I was kind of proud of it. It's been one of our baby projects since moving into our place and it was fun to get to share my favorite part of our home. Not long after the photos I ran out of space for my shoes. They ended up in piles in front of my "closet" for weeks, and then we realized we needed to do something about it. We scoured Walmart, Target and Lowes to find all of the pieces needed to expand it, and we did just that! All of the white shelving is by ClosetMaid and you can get the brand at all three aforementioned retailers. I thought the first photos of my wardrobe were large, but this makes it look teensy in comparison!

We added 2 tall cubbies (4 total) to the right side, and 1 (2 pieces) to the left. We then added a horizontal shoe rack on top of each pre-existing one below. 8 total pieces bought for the project, and now I have my dream closet! I didn't actually have all of my clothing/shoes up for these photos, but it's still ridiculous. I like making my closet look more like a boutique because I think every gal should treat her closet like so. Getting dressed should be fun. Like you're shopping! It's a great spin to put on your closet.

I know not everyone has an industrial loft where they can hang several hundred pounds of clothing from the ceiling, but you can still make it a fun experience. Put your favorite pieces on display, or color coordinate! I'm going to color-sort my closet soon, when I get a spare minute, but we went ahead and shot it anyway. Maybe I'll do a follow-up of it if I ever actually get it organized that way!

I'm not sure what I'll do with some of my stuff when I run out of room again (I'm dangerously close). Mike keeps saying to just stop acquiring new things. A huge chunk of that collection is thrifted, too. I've put myself on a/another shopping ban sort of. I need to let the rest of our house catch up to my closet!

I'll be sharing our "bedroom" tomorrow morning! Be sure to drop back by! Thanks for indulging me xo

  2. oh wow, to me this looks like a dream come true!! you're one lucky gal :) My dad made a shelf for all of my shoes when I moved in with my boyfriend and although it fits about 30 pairs, he has to think about enlarging it a bit, as theres no more room for new additions ;) I wish I had as many dresses as you, love them. but I'll get a sewing machine for christmas and will start creating my own dresses then, let's see how this goes. thanks for sharing!!

  21. Oh my goodness, it looks ten times bigger! So colorful, too. It makes me want to go shopping and expand my teeny tiny wardrobe I have now. I rarely comment [I need to change that] but I love that you even turn your shoes sideways a bit to make it even more eye catching :]

  23. damn girl! your closet IS a boutique! when it comes to my closet, i leave my shoes in the boxes when i'm not wearing them a lot because it's super dusty here and i dont like dusty shoes. i also have my dresser in my closet and organize my closet every couple of months as well. its not color coded, i just keep likes together. lets just say i've got nothing on you!

also, i have those "velvet covered" hangers. sometimes theyre called huggable hangers. they are great for using with anything that buttons down, because then you don't have to button them to keep them on the hanger!

  24. I love how you display stuff!! I'm busy tidying up my dressing/sewing room at the moment, I'm tempted to buy a clothing rack to display my favourite clothes even though I have a perfectly good wardrobe in there! I just bought some white cube thingys too so I can display my favourite shoes and my collection of clutch bags :) I can't wait to have the piles of things off the floor!!

  34. Your closet is indeed something to be proud of, I love it and envy you for this, I want a big closet just like yours. And I think I'll take all of it! I think you should do a dress collection post, I would really be interested in that, I love dresses and cardigans, they just make me feel prettier and more feminine... Anyways, I love your place, it's so nice!

  46. I think it's a great idea to make your clothing feel like a boutique! Since you love thrifting perhaps you can give some of your things away to friends to recharge your wardrobe with new items! I bet some of your friends have favorites among your vintage finds. I love sharing my finds.

  55. I have a question. You have an amazing wardrobe -especially the shoes- that I totally in every way envy. But I could never pull off shoes like that!! How much do you think your body type dictates your personal style. I mean, do you wear things you love no matter what, or do you restrict yourself to those pieces that accentuate your better features and diminish those you don't like as much?

  56. your wardrobe is gorgeous and oh so enviable <3

  62. I love this! I am looking to redo my closet and I wish I had enough space to do this but instead I have a small dinky closet that is overflowing with clothes, shoes, computer parts and sewing stuff. That is the only problem with living in a one room apartment, not enough storage space.

    ReplyDelete
  63. oh my gosh
    seriously
    this looks like a store
    not a closet

    a store I'd like to raid :)

Great job on the organization! It really makes me want to redo our closet space, but I'm so bad at hanging things back up after they've fallen/been pulled off the hangers!
