Loft Tour: Twinklelight City

I feel so thankful to live in such a creative space. I get to work somewhere that constantly inspires and surprises me (sometimes those surprises are spiders, but let's overlook that!). We've taken a glorified basement style loft and transformed it into a place we call home. Twinklelights everywhere, because why not right?! Sometimes it almost feels like we live in a planetarium.

I can't wait to have a normal sized hot water heater and a bath tub, but for now I'm happy with our concrete floors and "everything is dusty within 15 minutes of wiping it down" home sweet home. It fits our current situation and we're happy to have a roof over our heads.

The lighting is far from ideal so it's almost impossible to get decent photos but these will serve as a little taste of our home. Excuse the random boxes, giant softbox, and plentiful Honeybean shoes... our home is our office and our storage shed! We've got an always-stocked bar, wicker furniture perfect for a garden party, and an antique pink couch that I can't seem to get rid of. (It's kind of like the girls' couch [obviously!] but I'm hoping to have it reupholstered eventually!) Home sweet home, here you have it! xo

Are you decorating for the holidays?

Loft Tour: Where We Rest Our Heads

Good morning, Honeybees! Thanks for indulging me a little yesterday while I was super excited to share my newly expanded wardrobe area in our home! It really is our baby and we like sharing the things we create! Today I'm going to share with you our "bedroom" area.  Our living areas really aren't lavish in any way and they're very underwhelming in comparison to my wardrobe!
In case you're not up to speed, Mike and I live in an industrious factory-converted loft in midtown Nashville, and it's only about 890 sq. feet. There are no separating walls/doors except to the bathroom (with the tiny tiny shower! Oh how I miss bubblebaths!) and then there's a sectioned off area beside the bathroom that has a curtain over it which we use as a storage/craft closet (and Mike's closet is in there, too, for everyone who keeps asking! haha I promise I don't make him store them in the car or anything!). We don't have a washer + dryer (what the closet place was intended for, but it's tall and small so we make due with it being for crafty stuff/Honeybean backstock! It'll never ever be shown on the blawg because it's always a disaster! Mike is a bit messy :P) Anyway! -- in our home we have a lofted bed area. We have 12' ceilings and our loft is about 4' tall. Our bed is on the loft, as well as 2 sidetables. We have twinkly lights hanging from the rafters and lots of artwork all around. It's a small loft, and there's only room for those things. We keep a large floor fan up there in the summer but it really just fits our queen-sized bed (with no frame)! We have sheer white curtains hanging on the three sides and they can be closed for more privacy if we have overnight guests. We usually just keep them draped the way you see below.
The loft has stairs up the side and then there's black fabric attached to the bottom/side of the loft. The entire underside is storage (!!!). Mike stores all of his photography equipment, a lot of my junk and also his woodworking table. (Yes, we have a wood working table in our house. And very often the floor is littered with sawdust and you'll hear the jigsaw a'goin! That's the great thing about factory/concrete flooring! You can literally do anything in your home!) Everything just slides right under and you'd never ever even know it was there! It's perfect considering there's nowhere to hide anything in our house!
The large wall behind our bed isn't lime green like it may look! It's actually a really soft natural green. We were going for more of a light sage but didn't feel like painting that huge wall again! The big amazingly awesome arrow light hanging above our bed was a super sweet way-early wedding gift to be used for our big day! Ashley and Brad of Against The Woodgrain made it for us and we are ecstatic! It's the most perfect thing ever. It seriously ties our little "room" together so well. It's naturally so very dark in our home so this light really really helps! (You can order your own here! They're on sale right now, too!) I made the random pom-poms and paper fans hanging all around. The artwork over my bedside table is by Ryan Berkley. I love him because he paints a hefty amount of sharks! Then there's our Ikea globe lamps, vintage typewriter and a watercolor painting gifted to me by the ever so sweet Miss Ella Masters! She painted this for me to celebrate the Honeybean Dream! Mike's nightstand has his Ikea lamp and a vintage orange tv (which still works!) that we snagged at a yardsale last year for $5!
Our bedding is new (finally!). We did have a Shabby Chic duvet on the bed but the girls got the best of that one! We picked up this Ralph Lauren "Yorkshire Rose" comforter this past week. It's girly enough to please me and the green is neutral enough not to make Mike go into a tailspin. Win/win. Random cutesy pillows and thrifted pillow shams. I like girly things! And of course our bed is always filled with sleepy pups. The adorable paintings of Pipkin and Georgia were done for me by the lovely Carla of Rosita Mustache Studio! You can commission your own here! I promise they're worth every penny!

Well, that'll about do it I guess! I'll definitely share more "peeks" from around our home, but I'm undecided if I'll do a full tour of the rest of it. It really is rather underwhelming. We have twinklelights hanging/wrapped around the steel supports in our house, but the rest is just whatever. Maybe I'll feel inspired to reorganize some more stuff and shoot it anyway! If I end up repainting one of the walls in the bathroom then maybe I'll share that, too! (Mike let me go all out girly in the bathroom. It's currently light blue and decorated with white accents. I have some beautiful light pink paint though and I want to paint one wall. The "decor" in the bathroom is all white cats haha! It's a tiny/dingy little bathroom but we make it work!

Thanks for taking a peek into our little room! What's your favorite part of your room?

Loft Tour: KB's [Updated] Wardrobe

A few months ago I shared my DIY wardrobe space in our loft, and I'm not gonna lie, I was kind of proud of it. It's been one of our baby projects since moving into our place and it was fun to get to share my favorite part of our home. Not long after the photos I ran out of space for my shoes. They ended up in piles in front of my "closet" for weeks, and then we realized we needed to do something about it. We scoured Walmart, Target and Lowes to find all of the pieces needed to expand it, and we did just that! All of the white shelving is by ClosetMaid and you can get the brand at all three aforementioned retailers. I thought the first photos of my wardrobe were large, but this makes it look teensy in comparison!

We added 2 tall cubbies (4 total) to the right side, and 1 (2 pieces) to the left. We then added a horizontal shoe rack on top of each pre-existing one below. 8 total pieces bought for the project, and now I have my dream closet! I didn't actually have all of my clothing/shoes up for these photos, but it's still ridiculous. I like making my closet look more like a boutique because I think every gal should treat her closet like so. Getting dressed should be fun. Like you're shopping! It's a great spin to put on your closet.

I know not everyone has an industrial loft where they can hang several hundred pounds of clothing from the ceiling, but you can still make it a fun experience. Put your favorite pieces on display, or color coordinate! I'm going to color-sort my closet soon, when I get a spare minute, but we went ahead and shot it anyway. Maybe I'll do a follow-up of it if I ever actually get it organized that way!

I'm not sure what I'll do with some of my stuff when I run out of room again (I'm dangerously close). Mike keeps saying to just stop acquiring new things. A huge chunk of that collection is thrifted, too. I've put myself on a/another shopping ban sort of. I need to let the rest of our house catch up to my closet!

I'll be sharing our "bedroom" tomorrow morning! Be sure to drop back by! Thanks for indulging me xo

Loft Tour: KB's Wardrobe

Two weeks ago I shared a little tour of my workspace! It's definitely where I spend most of my time at home. However, there is a space in our little home that I love most of all. My wardrobe. When we moved into our loft we were sort of bummed about the lack of storage space (read: no closet). The gal who lived here before us had fashioned a few rickity shelves in the laundry room (which we use as a pantry/craft storage), but they weren't really useful. We have a huge white brick wall running the length of our loft and not enough furniture to put there so there was a huge area that just looked oddly open. That's when my step-dad suggested we hang chain from the rafters and make a swaying wardrobe. Genius! Mike and I high-tailed it straight to Lowe's to purchase industrial strength chain and 1" pipe. It was a labor of love but I couldn't be happier! Not only do I get a fully functional (and huge!) "closet", but it also serves as a decorative feature with all of the colors and patterns. The chains and pipe fit the industrial feel of our home, but the clothing fits my personality. The perfect combination! (Also, I'm totally one of those girls that If I can't see it, I won't wear it. So this works out so nicely!)

The white storage cubes are from Walmart. The tall ones are 2 of the 3-cubby stacking shelves (8 total), and the shoe racks at the bottom are just that. (The horizontal shelves tend to buckle in the middle though! As you can see, I'm sure!). I love being able to display my little collection of clothing in our home because it's definitely a collection I've worked at accumulating over the years. Since I only own dresses and cardigans/jackets, they fit really well. My belts are in the bathroom and my tights are in a drawer. Win/win! I think the swaying wardrobe was such a genius idea and it's almost my dream closet! It's a piece of this loft that I will want to take with me to absolutely every new home we have (but it'll probably be impossible.) I'm just going to enjoy it for as long as possible!

You'll be able to see more photos on Moorea's blog next week! Thanks for stopping by my space!

How do you store/organize your clothing? Are you a "all items turned one way, in a certain order" kinda gal? I am!

Loft Tour: KB's Workspace

(click the last photo to see full-size!)

It's been a long time coming... We've been in our newest Home Sweet Home for over three months now (holy cow!) and I'm finally getting around to photographing some of it to share. Since we live in a studio loft and there are no walls, we're going to share it "space by space". Up first is my little workspace with my new computer (a graduation gift from my parents). I recently (read: yesterday) cleared off my entire desk, moved all of my shoppe stash and stuff to another location in the house to make it a more "work friendly" environment. I took a cue from Molly and got some fresh flowers for my desk. I used to love keeping fresh flowers in my room at previous houses so this should be no different. Mike jokingly picked up a lava lamp on our errand run yesterday and I was sold. I had to have one. Best purchase in quite a while! It makes all the difference to my desk! (I highly recommend each and every one of you go buy one, too!). ~Lava lamp luverz club!

Also on my desk: various organizational accordion folders to the left of my desk. This is where I keep receipts, business-y stuff and shoppe lists. The pink journal is a wedding notebook I've been working in. Various sketches and lists of things I want for our big day. The black spiral bound piece is The Editor... something I use to keep track of my blog schedule, sponsors and posts. The green spined journal is a back-up for my "Little Book of Ideas" which you can see below it. It's been the only journal I can write things down in. If I were to lose that little thing I might feel like I've lost an arm or something! It's priceless!  My Rilakkuma iPhone cover on my little white iPhone 4. Various nail polishes as I did my nails this morning (totally into the neutrals lately!). Craft, Inc business planner (So far I really like it!) and a ton of sticky notes. My life revolves around sticky notes and my Little Book of Ideas. I'm serious. I sticky note everything... even my phone! I also have my little Instax Mini just because it's cute and it reminds me to use it!

You can see Georgia in two of the photos. She sits/lays under my desk 24/7. If I'm there and if I'm not. It's her favorite place in the house. I don't know if she just feels secure there or not but I like having her there to warm my toes!

Here's a picture that shows the pennant banner I made to hang above my desk. Mike cut it out of all the pictures above! Whoops! Oh, I've had a ton of people ask about the screensaver, too! Thanks to Weronika for letting me know! You can get it HERE!

Thanks for taking a peek at "where the magic happens" in our little home sweet home! We'll be sharing different spots in the house over the next several days!

Where do you blog/work? Care to share your inspiring space?!

PS; There's a little hidden gem about a business venture we're currently working on! I can't wait to share that with you! Can you spot it?!

iPhone and Sneak Peeks

Yesterday we spent the day loading up way too much furniture and driving way too far to haul it into our new place. Luckily we had my uncle and my stepdad to help us. I don't think we could've managed otherwise! We had a 12' covered trailer, a 16' trailer, the backs of 2 trucks and my Xterra. And we were very picky about what we took, too. There's still a ton of stuff in my Nana's basement! We were driving to load up stuff yesterday and I passed by a yard sale with the most gorgeous antique ornate pink couch, but I was unable to pull over in time. I called my mom to run down there to check the condition and price, and 15 minutes later she called me back with a new couch and a ridiculously low price. I was elated. She also told me they had a gorgeous vanity and other things, so I hopped in my car and went over while Mike and my uncle loaded up our stuff. I found 2 designer chairs (not that it matters to me because I can't even remember the guy's name. Eep!), a white vanity with mirror (super distressed and old and awesome!), and a white side table for my side of the bed. I added up everything on the stickers and I asked the gal what she'd take and she quoted me about 40% of the price. 60% off, yes! We loaded everything up and then set sail for Nashville. Now everything is in our house and we've slowly started piecing it together. Today we're going to get stuff to hang a faux-wardrobe, paint all the walls that aren't brick, and then maybe figure out our internet situation. Right now I'm at my parents since we came here after work last night. We've got a lot of driving to do today so I'm trying to schedule a few posts before heading out since I'm not sure when I'll have internet again!

Above are a few sneak peeks of the place, as well as some photos of my birthday. Read: my birthday outfit (the black), a dress I picked up (the white), birthday veggie sushi, and then a few of the process of stripping, sanding, priming and painting our dining room set. Doesn't Mike look like a chimney sweeper?! They (the table/chairs) turned out A LOT brighter than we intended. Oops!

Anyway, off I go! Hang tight while I try to figure out when we'll have internet! I promise I'm not a totally awful blogger! :P

PS; I haven't posted an outfit in 2 weeks! Man! I promise I've whipped up some doozies. And by doozies I just mean stuff that I haven't previously worn a million times. I think. We'll see! I'll share them soon!
