// Little Big Kitchen is my favorite feature on CA's blog, and this D&D themed party (with tavern food!) looks so delicious!

// While Loly In The Sky is famous for their quirky novelty loafers, they also make really stylish wedges and sandals!

// There has been a lot of drama happening over at XOJane this week due to this article. While there are far too many comments for me to read all of them, I've made sure to follow up on subsequent pieces. This one was written in response to the original, and then the assigning editor had her say. How do you feel about this whole debacle?

// This bachelorette party looked like so much fun!

// Have y'all popped over to see Ebonnie's "You Are Enough" project yet? I really dig the idea and I love seeing all of the photos being submitted. In a few weeks we'll hear from her directly about why she started the project!

// If you're in the market for some new jewelry this season, check out Indigo Box Jewels and LoopsWay! They both have some discount codes for you to use! (20% off IBJ with code clueless and 10% off LoopsWay with the code Clueless.)

What are you loving this week?

  1. I am white and I was offended by that xoJane article!! If there are people out there who think that much into a gal going to a yoga class no wonder racism is alive and well. I know it's a bit different in the States than Canada but I have just never experienced these thoughts. It seems so absurd for me to imagine thinking that about another person who happened to be in a yoga class with me. My mind cannot fathom it. Race just doesn't seem to be an issue here. I know there are dicks out there and I cant speak for the big metro areas like Toronto or Vancouver as I have never been. I just find from watching America from the outside is that white people seems to make a bigger deal about race than anyone else! That girl was just going about her business. Leave her alone and worry about your own issues!

    1. This! I'm so amazed that the first article made it onto the website in the first place. When i first read it I just sat there with really big eyes and my mouth wide open.

  3. Hey there! Just wanted to point this out to you, 'cause I know you'd want to know...the "How to write about transgendered people" link you posted mentions that "trangendered" isn't actually a word.

Thank you for posting the link - it was really timely for me, since I'm really into the new Against Me! album "Transgender Dysphoria Blues" right now. The band's singer, Laura, is a transgender woman, and it has been fascinating for me to learn more about her. She's done some great interviews lately and brings up some great ideas...you might be into reading/listening, too. :]

    Take care! XO

    1. I totally get that the article makes that statement, however I write the article title exactly as is in my TiLT posts! (and since that's the name of the article, it makes sense to write it as such!) I'm super familiar with Against Me! and Laura's story. It's super super inspiring and recently saw a photo of her looking GORGEOUS! (here it is, for reference: http://againstjay182.tumblr.com/post/74993292884/lauraaaaa)

Thanks for the comment, and hopefully you'll understand my explanation! :)

    2. Oh, you're so right - that *is* the title of the article! Whoa, BuzzFeed...either that was an intentional error or someone totally didn't proofread. Sorry I didn't notice that before commenting!

That is an AMAZING photo of her - wow! Thank you for sharing! It looks like a photo from their Letterman performance that aired last night - I saw another candid of her backstage and was blown away by how beautiful she looked, and this one is even better.

PS - AM! killed on Letterman, if you're interested in watching. :] http://youtu.be/X1TyN3y36WA

    4. Thanks so much for sharing the video! I'm an old lady now so I was asleep far before the performance, but WOW! SO rad! And no apologizes necessary because I actually totally mistyped (and have since fixed it thanks to your acknowledgement!). <3

    5. Yeah, I may or may not have crawled into bed and gotten my husband to wake me up at 1:30am just before they played...glad you enjoyed it! I'm so interested to see what LJG does next!

  4. So many gorgeous things as usual! I really really want a little Hedgehog! Alas, I think my cat would eat it.

That xoJane article made me feel a bit uncomfortable, but I could put my finger on why. I didn't like some of the comments in response though. Particularly the one about her imagining this lady's distress. Anyone with any discernment can read facial expressions, so it's not entirely unconvincing. Also, I once complained about someone being sexist to me, and a black friend said "What would you know about any kind of prejudice?! You're white." Like... thanks. If this woman WAS looking at her contempt, then I don't blame this girl for letting her imagination run wild as to why she was on the receiving end of such looks. The whole thing is awkward.

    1. I get what you're saying and I think a lot of instances of discrimination and prejudice can make others feel uncomfortable. I think it's great that it's being talked about though. The comments section on *any* website is hit or miss, and sometimes they're just plain angering.

  7. First - congratulations on your announcement!!!!! I've been barely touching blogs lately; I missed enough days that my blog reader got kind of overwhelming and I've JUST been able to really go through it. Sorry to be a belated well-wisher; but still! Exciting!

As far as the yoga thing, I just... I have no idea what to think. It's just such the epitome of "white girl making it all about her hurt feelings" that it's disgusting, but I think I get why the editor allowed it - in part because thi swas GUARANTEED to get a ton of pageviews, and in part because if I had a dollar for every time I've heard white people swear up and down they "felt the hostile gaze" of whatever black person happens to be existing near them... I would not have to work, I'll tell you that. This article was worthwhile, for me, mainly because it really showed the aversive/covert racism that white people CONSTANTLY give off/endlessly navel gaze about.

I also agree with what a GOMIer said; I think if that poor woman in her yoga class had been thin, the article would have been a LOT different. I think it was a mix of both a person of color AND a person who is not stick-skinny having the temerity to disrupt this woman's skinny white hipster world.

    1. You raise a really good point that I didn't even consider: of course it could have been a marketing tactic. It definitely got the pageview boost they were looking for. I also didn't think much about the fact it would've been much different had she been thin... that's a very very valid observation! The whole thing is an epic WTF situation.

  8. The article was definitely an interesting read, honestly though I did relate more to the secondary article written in response, to me it just felt like she was being disrupted by this poor black woman who'd stumbled into her class and was oh so out of place. Something felt off, it unsettled me but I didn't react to it until I read the secondary article. An interesting read, and of course they care about pageviews, the way it was blown up (i have seen it mentioned on facebook 50 times I swear the last few days) got them some spotlight that's for sure.

Cute as always tilt post! Can't believe you are still doing them, wow, such a great thing though.

xx congrats on baby too, I am so elated for you!
