It's currently 45 degrees outside and I just got home from taking Toby to school (sans tights... no bueno!), so sharing this outfit now seems kind of silly. I found it sitting in my Drafts folder and even though it's not even 2 months old, it feels like a lifetime ago. I miss my tan! I miss the sunshine! I miss warm weather! I love Autumn, don't get me wrong. I don't want to sit around wishing for another season, but Autumn is so short-lived here in Tennessee. It's hot and humid and then all of a sudden it's "colder than it's ever been" (That's Mike's favorite phrase. Drives me nuts! haha) We finally bit the bullet and turned on our heat yesterday... in October! Every year we say we're going to totally stick it out and wait until like Thanksgiving to turn on the heat. Apparently the cold strips me of my willpower because I got the best night's sleep ever last night. That's really a whole paragraph of hullabaloo to say "Holy moly it's cold outside!"

One of the interesting things this year is that I've grown so accustomed to not wearing tights. If you've been reading the blog since last year or before, you'll remember that I wore tights year round! Talk about hot and ridiculous! I guess by blogging outfits regularly I've grown more comfortable with myself and I feel more at ease with just being who I am. I know that's such a silly way to say it, but it's true. I think blogs are silly 99% of the time (because let's face it, they are!) but they can also serve a greater purpose. Pop back by Friday for my thoughts on it all :) I won't wax poetic in this post too much, I promise! Anyway, my point is: I've barely worn tights at all this year. In fact, I haven't since February! That's crazy! I ended up tossing my entire tights collection a while back so I'll have to start from the ground up, but it feels weird to remember a time when I wore two pairs of black tights in the middle of 97 degree heat and humidity. When I lived in NYC I walked something like 13 blocks for brunch with a friend while doubling up on tights (WHY?!) and on the walk back to my apartment I literally cursed my existence haha. I'm still a cardigan and dress gal, and I have no idea if/when I'll grow out of that, I'm kind of glad to see some visible evolution.

In totally unrelated news, I've been working on something with Mike the past few days that I can't wait to share. It's sort of a culmination of feelings about myself, this space, blogs in general, etc. I'm hoping it'll be ready to share in the next week or two. That's probably pushing it, but I'm eager to make it happen! Today I'm just going to work diligently to clean this darn office up because I'm slowly losing my mind in here. I've pretty much failed my "Get up at 6:30am everyday" intention with the exception of today, but hopefully I'll be so productive today I won't dream of sleeping past the alarm tomorrow! Try and try again, right?

  10. Love this outfit, and I love Mak cardigans!! I wish I could find somewhere to get them in every color ever, but I think they're just wholesale? I also wish I could survive without tights, but it's simply too cold here!!

  11. I love your dress and the bag! I only double up on tights when it's freezing here in Cleveland, Ohio, and I can't imagine wearing them in 80 or 90 degree heat, I would probably pass out from heat stroke or melt into a puddle!

  12. Fall is the same way here in Georgia. I understand! The leaves haven't even changed here but when they do they'll probably last a week.

Anyway, this dress is so super cute. I can't get over the adorable print!
I can't imagine wearing tights in anything over 79 degrees either. Holy crap! I would melt.

  15. I am also a avid tight wearer regardless of the weather... Someday I hope to be comfortable without them.

  16. ugh we finally turned the heat on, too! it seems silly to me because i remember one year waiting to turn it on until like January!

anyway, there is a sleep calculator that you can use that tells you when you should set an alarm so that you wake up "between" sleep cycles instead of during them thus making it easier to get up! it's here if you wanna play with it: http://sleepyti.me/

it still doesn't mean i get up when i plan to but i've noticed when i wake up in the night to pee (TMI ALERT) or when i wake up before my alarm feeling refreshed it's actually always after one of the 90 minute increments this is based on. it's pretty neat!
