The pictures don't lie... if you've been wondering why things have been (incredibly) slow around here since the start of December, now you know! I've been growing a tiny little human, and it has taken absolutely everything out of me. I've been far too terrified to share until now, but I've teetered over into the second trimester (I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow) and I'm trying to enjoy it rather than worry about it. I finally have some energy and spunk back, so hopefully you'll be seeing more of me soon (literally. Like, a whole lot more of me).
We are over the moon to be growing our family, and we're so excited to make Toby a big brother. It certainly wasn't planned, but we're ecstatic nonetheless.
The littlest Flynn is set to arrive around the very end of July this year!
Our hearts have never been so full!
!! Wow Kaelah, congratulations! What a lovely surprise, Toby looks chuffed!

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, CONGRATS! I just introduced Issac Karl Northrop into the home almost seven weeks ago and his bigger brother Zak can never be more ecstatic about helping out. Hope Toby is the same because he'll definitely enjoy it once baby goes into smiling and laughing mode.
ReplyDeleteHave you picked out any names yet?
Tips of advice for busy stay-at-home moms:
Delete1. Invest in the things you wouldn't have thought about investing in, which include:
- Side Table beside office space: Reason why? There are times while you are working when the baby needs to be cared for and you will not have it ready at your disposal near the area in which you are working. You will then have to get up with the baby and get whatever it is the baby needs in his or her room. Every.single.time. Having everything ready at your disposal will not only save you time with tending to the needs of your baby, but will also let the baby know that you are there for him or her immediately when they need something. This will help create a closer bond between you and baby, also while allowing you to get back to your work once the baby seems satisfied.
- Trash Pail and Liners: Working a nine to five job at home can already be somewhat of a task especially when taking care of your older kids (I have an almost five year old in August), pets and completing errands for your family before they get home from work or school. With a baby, you will feel at times that you can not get anything done. Like with the side table for baby items, you will also need a trash pail and liners. This will save you time on going to kitchen for each poop or pee diaper you have to change.
- Electronic Breast Pump: If you are breast-feeding and need to supplement your baby from a bottle to get him or her to go to sleep like I have to with Issac, it is huge time saver to get an electronic breast pump to use while working and in between the babies' naps. EBP's will work out the breast milk from you so you can use your hands for the work you need to get done at home. No one tells you that it takes at least 45 minutes every 3 hours to get at least 3-4 ounces of milk out just for your baby to have once getting back to sleep in between naps. With an Electronic Breast Pump, you have the ability to get excess milk out which in turn can be used for naps, if you need someone to watch the baby while you sleep, if you cannot bring baby out on specific errands (getting your license renewed, court house, etc).
- Boppy (oval shaped nursing pillow): For breast-feeding or bottle feeding moms, these are the best pillows to have when either nursing or feeding your baby through bottle. The pillow is designed to wrap around your stomach so you can easily nurse or bottle-feed your baby without having to lean on something. These pillows can also be used for baby to lay on if wanting to sit up and enjoy the view around him or if you are working and want the baby to sit in your lap.
Delete- Swaddling Blankets (lots of them!): Most babies, including my own seven week year old son, loves the feeling of a blanket wrapped around him or her. It gives the baby comfort and can allow you to get your baby to sleep or calmed down in a swift manner. Babies tend to sleep harder with swaddling blankets wrapped around them, which is good for teaching the baby how to get on a sleep schedule that fits yours much faster than those who are not swaddled. At five weeks old, Issac already slept through half the night (let's say 11 to 4:30) at least once or twice a week. Compared to my oldest son Zak who took two months before finally sleeping most of the night, you can tell that swaddling blankets have a positive effect on developing positive routine sleep schedules.
- Moby Wrap (http://www.loveelycia.com/2013/11/video-babywearing-with-moby-wrap.html): Forget trying to carry your baby places in your arms or in the bulky car seat, these babies are designed to wrap around your body so your baby can fit snuggly up close to you while you need to walk around with him or her. Not only does the Moby Wrap help the baby calm down and feel secure, but it is also a good tool when wanting to get your baby to sleep while going on errands or needing to get things done around the house. The closer your baby is to you, the calmer the both of you are.. which in turn is good for bonding and feeling good about knowing the needs of your baby in an instant.
- Carry Around Bassinet: You can't just wheel around a stationary bassinet when you want to move from room to room with a sleeping baby so you can keep an eye on him or her. With a carry around bassinet, obviously you can carry him or her from room to room or to keep close to you while you nap. They are also good for bringing on the road if you are planning on staying the night anywhere without bulking up the car with more important overnight items.
Delete2. Always sleep around the schedule of your baby and not the other way around. This also applies to getting things done around the house or completing anything outside of the home. Your baby comes first when he or she is awake and need his or her needs met. Feeling otherwise will make you become upset by feeling as though you have two things to do at once (your needs and his/hers).
3. If you for some reason can not meet the needs of your baby from where you are working from, either step away from what you are doing for thirty minutes to an hour to meet his or her needs or give him or her to someone who can watch the baby while you get the must-meet-deadline task done. This will eliminate the chance of you lashing out on your baby (you think you may not do this, but it DOES happen even you do not mean to at all) and for the baby to have calming care from another parent or responsible adult, which can ease the stress of the baby for whatever need he or she needs.
I apologize this is long, but I know you are a stay-at-home working mom with a toddler who will need the same told to you as my parents did to me. I am in your same exact position and know what it will be like for you once he arrives. Hope this all helps and if you need to ask this veteran on what to do with a baby, I am here for you at djkittiex@email.phoenix.edu.
KB!!!!! OMIGOD!!!!! congrats mama! this is probably some of the best news I've heard all week! I am so excited to see all the baby updates and everything in the coming months! You're already a great mom, you have absolutely nothing to worry about!!! You got this, girl!

HOLY CRAP CONGRATULATIONS!! I can't wait to see how fabulous you look in maternity wear.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you all!! A nice name you have picked too. I'm terrible at congratulations where babies are concerned, I just don't share in the maternal instinct. Still, congratulations to you! You'll be happy to know (maybe...) that I feel more genuine in this comment to you than all my recent real life friends/people that have recently announced their babies.
