// Sneaking Away

One thing we've learned since becoming parents is that it can incredibly difficult to "get away" and spend quality time together. An entire husband and wife vacation getaway? Forget about it! A solid day of just the two of you? Probably not that either! We knew we'd be incredibly short on alone time once Linden arrived, so we've been making it a priority to sneak in little mini dates where we can.

Sometimes that means a quick 15 minute jaunt to Sonic for half-price milkshakes. Then just sitting side by side in the car, slurping them down while Toby spends time with his grandparents. It's a date even with a sleeping newborn in the backseat. Cheers for tiny pockets of togetherness! We're not above making a "date" out of a trip to Lowe's or Target, either. We do what we can.

How about you? What are your favorite mini "dates" to enjoy together? And yes, dates is in quotes because I know it's totally a stretch! haha

  1. This is so cute. I'm glad you guys see the importance of still making efforts and time for each other and "dates" :)
    I hope when I have a family one day that I remember to do this, I have no experience, but I think its important for Parents, especially new parents to also concentrate on being Boyfriend/Husband and Girlfriend/Wife (just general lover really).

  3. My fiancé and I don't have kids yet, but I love our dates to the grocery store. Personally, I looove grocery shopping, and Jake would get excited because I was excited! We try to get small treats for each other (just because) every time we go. :) I love just walking around stores with him, and although we're around a lot of people, it somehow feels really intimate.

  5. Since having our son, my husband and I consider almost everything we do together a date, haha! After we put Ryder to bed, every night we curl up together and watch a few episodes of a tv show on Netflix and on the weekends, we try to explore the city. Sometimes Ryder is with us and sometimes he isn't, but just having that time together is nice!

  6. I love this advice. I'm far from being a mother but when me and my exboyfriend were dating I was always really busy, so 15 minutes of seeing each other, or just going to pick up something from the store were considered our dates and very precious to us. Stepping out of the mindset that a date means 'a dinner and a movie' etc etc is really important, as long as you spend time with your significant other I think that's most important! (:

  7. About a month and a half after Isobel was born was our sixth or seventh wedding anniversary. I was at home caring for her when Anthony called me from work and said he had a surprise in mind for the evening when he got off work, and so I needed to pack up the diaper bag for Isobel to spend a few hours at Grandma's house. He wouldn't tell me what it was or where we were going, and so after dropping Isobel off we headed west. We ended up at a beach in San Francisco (Ocean Beach) just in time to watch the sunset. We ran around the beach together and watched the stars before grabbing a quick bite and heading home. We were gone a total of maybe six hours (most of that to and from travel time) but it was so spontaneous and novel and fun. And when we were done we had a sweet baby waiting for us. Best anniversary ever.

  8. I totally get that and my husband and I are like Laura Morris up there and make most things a date. :) (Especially episodes of Archer on Netflix!) Our favourite is to grab a coffee and go for a drive.

  9. While we don't have kids yet, my partner and I only get a limited amount of time together thanks to his job in the mines here in Western Australia. He's only home for six days before he's back at work for eight. In that time, I still have to work 7am - 4pm, complete my uni studies and just generally LIVE.
    I'm writing an e-book about it though! One thing I've noticed is that young couples in particular are so freaking busy now and thats ok. It doesn't have to be at the expense of their relationship! I blog about it at http://jess-may.com xxxx

  10. Haha YES, totally! I just wrote about a doughnut date, myself. Just because it's not dinner and a movie doesn't mean it's not a date! Love the milkshake date idea! :)

  11. My favorite mini-date to have with my boyfriend is when we make breakfast together on Sunday mornings some weeks. I do pancakes or French toast, he does the eggs and bacon, someone puts on a pot of coffee, and then we eat at the table without the TV on or our phones out. We usually spend more time cooking than eating, but the whole thing is really enjoyable and relaxing.
