First things first: Happy birthday, little blog! Today my blog is five years old... Whoa. It's crazy to think I've been writing in the same space for that long. In the past I'd hop from LiveJournal to LiveJournal, but this one stuck. I never really expected to see it through this long, but I still have fun writing here so why stop? My thoughts about blogging have shifted dramatically, even in just the past 6-12 months, but I'm enjoying writing more personal posts here. I think it's taking my blog back to where it started and I kind of really dig that. Thanks to all of you who read here each day/week/whatever. Especially to those of you who have been here from the start! It means a lot to me to hear from y'all. Anyway...
It's been a week of hot, sticky weather here in Tennessee. I finally broke down and turned on the A/C yesterday because the fans just weren't cutting it. I hate that the Spring season is so short lived here. It goes from outrageously cold to hot and humid in a millisecond. I'd love a few more weeks of a brisk breeze blowing through the open doors and windows. I've checked off one full day of being a WAHM so far... and boy, there were points where I was doubting my ability to make it through the day. So overdramatic, I know. But it's going to take some getting used to! Luckily I've been able to keep Toby busy with the doggie pools in the backyard. So far, so good!
When I look at these pictures I'm so floored by the fact I'm already past the 30 week mark. Where is this time going?! I've been told the last 10 weeks creep by, but it really just feels like full steam ahead over here. I'm starting to get really nervous, too. Mike and I are signed up for a (6 hour!) birthing class this Saturday and I'm just crossing my fingers it puts my mind at ease a little bit. Baby Flynn has been incredibly active lately and sleep is starting to evade me. Mid-day naps are becoming a priority once more so you may be seeing a little bit less of me over the next 2 months!
This dress has become a new staple in my wardrobe. I feel like I say that every time I wear a new maxi, but I just can't seem to get enough. They're just so darn comfortable and totally perfect for the heat. They're modest and flattering without being heavy and sticky. I couldn't help but pair this one with my mint cardigan after getting this mint statement necklace in my Stitch Fix shipment yesterday. I didn't actually love the length of the necklace, so I grabbed some ribbon from a craft box and added an extra 6" to the back haha I think this length suits the neckline of my dress better at least. I wore this to Toby's baseball game last night and then we all headed over to the local Mexican restaurant for a little family dinner. I used that as an excuse to use my new Urban Expressions clutch (also a Stitch Fix score). I love the foldover style of this clutch and it also comes with a shoulder strap if desired. I just really dig how it's not so structured and it sort of "melts" when you hold it. The zipper compartments on the bottom also allow for it to get wider or thinner depending on what look you're going for. I feel like I'm never disappointed in my Urban Expressions bags. I have so many and seriously they're all great.
Today I'm looking forward to a Skype date with my best friend, Elle, and having Mike come home from school for a full 3 day weekend. He's been working so hard at school this week and he's been sick, so I feel like I have barely talked to him. The good news is that he's doing exceptionally well and I'm so proud of him. I miss having him at home every day but seeing how motivated he is really excites me. Toby is planning on spending the long weekend with my parents (!!!) so hopefully Mike and I will have some time to just hang out and be together. I'm also crossing my fingers that they finish getting the pool all set up because this lady needs to feel weightless for a little while, ya know? haha

Yes to naps! I would nap all the time if it weren't for having to be at work, haha. I'm debating putting up a little sign on the door that says "siesta, 1 - 2 pm" and taking a nap anyway. It's the downside to having to be the "face" at your workplace. Ah well. I will live vicariously through your naps!
ReplyDeleteBoo on Mike being sick; isn't that just the way, to get sick right off the bat like that. Hopefully it'll hold off after this and he can get better. What he's doing is insanely impressive, and to do it while sick - my hat's off to the man!
Are you starting up the 'prego waddle', as my sister calls it? I feel like I am - I find myself leaning back slightly as I walk to compensate for the weight of my stomach. I didn't realize how unconscious it is. I wondered if you've started doing it too!
oh gurl! the waddle! i had NO idea i was doing it but my friend Maya pointed it out to me last week (and totally made fun of me haha!). I started paying attention and sure enough... I waddle. I feel like I'd waddle way more if I had to be on my feet all day or something, but I totally feel for those pregnant ladies who are! I honestly do not know how they do it.
DeleteYou know what? This has made me give mad props to women carrying more than one at a time. Because, like, I've only got a teensy little two-pounder in there right now and I"ve had to change how I lean over to pick stuff up, how I walk, even just how I have to stand to be comfortable or sit down. And there are women out there doubling or tripling that! I can't even imagine.
DeleteYeah, I am super glad my job allows for lots of sitting, haha. I cannot imagine working an assembly line or like in retail or something and feeling like this. My feet would be killing me!
If I won, I would get the "Smooth Sailing Bracelet" in silver, and "A Starry Night Dress"...and probably a couple of pairs of earrings!
ReplyDeleteYou are so pretty, I hope I look half as good as you when I am pregnant! I am so glad Mike is doing good in school, plus it will help when Baby Flynn enters the world to have Nurse Mike be able to use his skills.
ReplyDeleteI'm super looking forward to him being able to diagnose and treat the kids after he finishes school completely! haha They won't be able to fake being sick! :P
DeleteI'd definitely order the Marisole dress, it would be perfect for my best friends wedding next month. So cute.
ReplyDeleteYou're looking amazing lady, definitely suits you!! Can't believe how quickly the time is going, must be even more exciting for you guys.
So glad to hear Mike is loving school.
xx
I feel like I'm going to wake up with a baby tomorrow! haha!
DeleteGreat giveaway. I would snap up the timeless dress in green in a second !
ReplyDeleteAwesome giveaway! I've been looking for a black and white striped maxi but I just can't find the right one and this one looks perfect!

ReplyDeleteRight?! I can't believe it either! How did this happen so fast?!?!?!
DeleteI love the Timeless Dress in green by Stop Staring!
ReplyDeleteI was the same as you: I had SO many online journals that would last perhaps 2 months before I started a new one. Then I started this one here and, 2.5 years later, it's still around! Happy 5th blog birthday! I'm very glad you kept it up, as it's one of my favourites!
ReplyDeleteI know I say this every time you post an outfit but good Lord, you are looking GORGEOUS! That dress is perfection on you, and I love the mint cardigan with the monochrome.
HAPPY BLOG BIRTHDAY!! I celebrate 3 years of mine today, too. What a fun month!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the maxi dress. I've never owned one. I think I need to invest.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blog Birthday <3 When I 1st started reading your blog, I loved going back to your beginning and seeing how it all started.
Meanwhile, I am still blogging to crickets, haha! I am just working on heavy networking and just hoping to reach back out to my old followers, while finding new ones!
Have a great weekend, Kaelah!
