Dots + Stripes
Red, white and blue is one of the most classic color combinations to exist, and I'm all over it. I received this dress from the lovely Janalyn over at August Wrinkle a few weeks back and yesterday was finally the perfect day to wear it out and about. I probably should've done something with my bird's nest hair but it was the perfect casual setup honestly. Enid also decided to get in on the action... she follows me around like a little puppy when I'm out in the yard. Anyway, I'm almost afraid that if I wear this cardigan or these shoes one more time on the blog someone is going to call me out on my repetition! Haha I'm not the best "remixer" so cardigans and shoes are usually what get the most wear and tear in my wardrobe. You can't tell by these pictures, but this dress has a really pretty cutout detail on the back! Red is by far one of my favorite colors to wear so I think I should invest in more pieces in that hue. It makes it feel like summer!

Lately we've been tending to our little raised garden with a watchful (excited!) eye. We've got a red pepper the size of a golf ball (!!!) and several other buds ready to pop. We've also got a huge squash plant, cilantro that can't be stopped, and basil that is taking over. Our pear and apple trees are covered over with small fruit, too. We couldn't be more excited! We're already planning on growing our garden for next year. Something about growing your own food and then picking it for dinner... it's just so liberating! Any of y'all have a seasoned green thumb?! Any fruits and veggies you'd recommend for some n00b gardeners?! Our flowers are in full bloom, too. The front of our house is looking so cute! I wish our grass would grow full and thick, but I'm too overjoyed with "the fruits of our labor" to mind haha

Mike and I have been doing some Googling to find a fun place for our family vacation next month. My parents are thinking Gulf Shores, Alabama (we used to vacation there when I was growing up!) but we're also on the hunt for a good snorkeling spot in the Gulf of Mexico. Anyone know of anywhere? Is that even a thing? After snorkeling in Mexico on our honeymoon, I seriously want to plan every vacation around that! haha It was so so so much fun. We'll be taking the RV down in mid-July so we're trying to find a city and then look up all the fun stuff to do for the week we'll be there! Ahh, so excited. This girl could use a vacation!

We're also planning on visiting Wilmington, NC and Chicago in the coming months! Hopefully before Toby starts school in August (AHH!) Maybe if any of y'all live nearby we can have a meetup or something fun like that! Well, here's to a productive, yet restful, Friday! Hope y'all have a great one!

  5. I love your outfit! I actually keep an organic garden year round. Greens will make you feel like a champion gardener. I recommend dinosaur and Russian Red kale. Tomatoes are also great if you like them, but they have a little more upkeep what with getting rid of the tomato horn worms. If you're growing yellow crookneck squash then you're going to be in for a treat! I also love Pattypan squash to grow. They have a similar flavor, high yield, and best of all they look like little UFOs. I'm loving your cat photobomb, especially the first one where they've struck a foot-in-the-air pose!

  9. Cute outfit! I love that Enid follows you around :) I totally agree about eating food you've grown! I have always eaten stuff from my step-dad's garden, but this is the first year I've grown anything myself. I have cilantro (it's freaking huge), basil and lettuce. I've been using the lettuce for salads and the herbs in almost everything I make. It's awesome! I will probably do more next year. This was a trial run to see if I could actually keep something alive for once!

  10. So Orange Beach is literally the other side of Gulf Shores- they are on the same road, but it's a little less touristy? I prefer it over GS. Google Search snorkeling in Orange Beach- so many options!!

  11. You're so cute! I love red white and blue and I love wearing the same thing every day, so this outfit gets two thumbs up from me :D

Fair warning, don't be bummed if your cilantro starts dying. Apparently it doesn't do too well in the Tennessee heat - I grow it every year because I like to put it on EVERYTHING, and by June it is the saddest little limp plant haha. On the other hand, my dill, rosemary and mint plants are outta control and they tend to do well. Especially the rosemary - if you get a bigger plant, it'll come back every year :) My mom's rosemary plants are giant bushes now, and they smell soooo good. I'm such a nerd about my herb garden ha.

  13. Very cute! I like the necklace a lot. I always go to Destin, FL but I'm afraid there's not much to offer snorkeling-wise. Still a nice beach if you go in the off-season!xx

  21. I love this look, it's effortless and classy. There's something about navy and stripes. I don't often wear dresses but I have rocked the navy stripe over our Australian summer. Tell me what you think: http://www.seaandsalt.com/2013/06/summer-memories.html

  22. You should try planting tomatoes! They are super easy and super tasty. I usually grow sweet millions and cherry tomatoes because they are great in salads, salsa and pasta. Plus they are lots of fun to pick when you're a kid because they're tiny. So Toby might enjoy that :) Good luck with your gardening!

Also I think it's adorable that Enid follows you everywhere. My pup does the same when I'm in the garden.

  27. I agree with a lot of the comments. Lettuce is the way to go! It's easy, it grows quick and fresh lettuce from your garden is such a treat. Outside of that herbs are a great way to get started, because they're pretty hard to kill, and you can start using them straight away if you buy seedlings.

  30. Enid photobombing is the cutest!

I know y'all were in my neck of the woods last year, in PCB! But a little way down (about 40 minutes) Destin & Fort Walton Beach... Seaside Beach, I read someone mentioned above, is an excellent idea! They have such adorable shops and it's just a lovely place... The Truman show was filmed there, it's like being on a different planet. :)
