I thought I'd share a fun little post today on what I keep in my makeup bag. I've had a lot of fun these past few months trying out new products and really getting a feel for what works with my skin. I definitely have my fair share of favorites and hopefully you'll enjoy hearing about them!
1 // smashbox halo to go hydrating perfecting powder : i love how light and airy this powder feels. it's the perfect touch for year round wear in my opinion. (i wanted to test the waters before buying big so i bought this starter kit!)
2 // be a bombshell felt tip eyeliner : the thickness of this tip really comes in handy for me as i'm less likely to make a streaky mistake when applying a winged lid. i'm still a n00b, but i'm trying!
3 // e.l.f. tinted moisturizer : by far the best $3 find ever. this stuff is absolutely perfect for summer. i have naturally dry skin so i need moisture all day, every day. two thumbs way up for this stuff!
4 // anastasia beverly hills brow genius kit : DUDE! this stuff is by far my favorite beauty find of the year. it was a very kind gift from the ABH folks and i'm beyond thrilled with the product. i remember testing it out the very first day i received it. i promptly tossed out my benefit browzings and i've rationed out this post ever since! you need this. your brows will thank you!
5 // make up for ever rouge artist natural lipstick in "n34 - candy pink" : this color is my go to lip for every day. it's natural enough to blend in, but just enough color to give me a pep in my step.
6 // smashbox high definition concealer : (i also tried this from the starter kit!)
7 // nars smudge proof eyeshadow base : i think i picked this up as part of my 500 point perk at sephora a while back, but it's been in heavy rotation during my daily makeup routine.
8 // benefit watt's up luminizer : my daily makeup bag boasts the travel size version of this, but it's just as powerful! holy moly, one little swip of that tube and boom! my face is glowin! i'd say this is probably my secret little weapon in my bag. i don't wear it every day, but it makes a statement when i do!
9 // too faced "new year, new you" palette : i bought this as part of the NYNY kit and it's fantastic! i love the soft color of the blush, and the two eyeshadows in the palette have become my everyday colors. they're neutral and perfect for almost any occasion.
10 // juicy couture perfume : i hope it doesn't make me "uncool" to admit that i love this juicy couture scent. i can't help but think of terry cloth track suits and velour handbags when i think of juicy couture, but this perfume is perfect. i keep a full size bottle in my office and then this travel size spritzer in my bag for quick touch ups. the citrus scent is perfect for this weather!
As far as brushes are concerned, I tote around my little Victoria's Secret travel kit in my bag. It's the perfect size to zip up and toss in. I was actually quite surprised at the quality of the brushes and I have my lovely friend Christina to thank for that! She works at VS and totally schooled me on the cosmetics at VS when she was in town for my birthday. Can't wait til she comes back to visit again so we can make another trip out of it! ;) (Hint, hint, Christina!)
My daily makeup routine is incredibly simple (and quick!) but it certainly wouldn't be as easy to look refreshed if it weren't for these products above. I know my preferences and choices will change as I become more knowledgable on what's out there and what works for me (and my ever changing skin tone... and the weather... and you know, all those other variables!), but I can say with conviction that I'm really happy with my current routine! Hey, if my face is happy, I'm happy!
What do you keep in our daily makeup bag?! I'd love to hear! (If you write your own post, leave a link below so I can check it out! Or just tell us in the comments!)
PS; My makeup bag is from Forever 21! They also have a cosmetic case version, and they both come in multiple colors!
Oooo that nars eyehsadow base sound promising!

I am always so jealous of all the stuff you guys have in the US! I feel like most things over here are so expensive!
ReplyDeleteMy make-up is very basic: I have a powder/make-up that's a two-in-one deal from Maybelline (just add water! Kind of like ramen noodles.. yea), mascara from them as well, and then bronzer and blush from Rimmel. I actually use an eyeshadow as my highlighter - it has the perfect shade, and it's really cheap!
My secret splurge: Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. It's expensive, but it makes my skin look like it was kissed by unicorns with rainbow lips, so it's a done deal! I only use it for special occasions, so it lasts a while.. at least that's how I rationalize it! haha
I feel like I read a lot of UK beauty blog talking about Clarins but I've never tried it! i love the "kissed by unicorns with rainbow lips" though! :P
DeleteOh! I want to try out the Anastasia Brow Kit. What shade do you use? I always have a difficult time finding the perfect brown for my complexion. I'm pale, but my hair is a dark brown.
ReplyDeletei'm 99% sure i have the brunette color and it's perfect. not *too* dark, but a great shade for my hair color and skin tone! their brow kit will change your life, i'm not even joking haha
DeleteThank you! I plan on checking it out soon. I'm always looking to improve my brows :)
DeleteYour kitty makeup bag is adorable! I'm in LOVE with the Benefit Watt's Up highlighter. It is the perfect shade and shimmer and just looks so great. xo
ReplyDeleteI've started to see more E.L.F. products around the TJ Maxx that I work at but I'm always apprehensive about trying new brands that I don't know much about. I know it's in your make-up back, so you must like it enough, but would you suggest it to someone else?

110% yes :) i love most ELF products. their bronze/blush duo ($3) is better than nars orgasm in my book. i always have a palette of it in my vanity drawer for back up. the only thing from ELF i'd say steer clear of: mascara. it's AWFUL. but their primer is my favorite and it's only $6!
Deletecool! thanks for sharing this. I really want to try that elf moisturizer.
ReplyDeleteThese posts are always fun :) I love that you use mostly high end stuff and then BAM! ELF moisturizer. Haha! It's a good line, especially for the price, but that was funny :) You should try ELF's eyeshadow primer too. I love it and it's like $1-$3!

Thanks for the tip on the eyeliner felt tip! I got one from Physician's Formula, and while I like the applicator style - I can NOT get a good line, let alone a cat-eye with a traditional liquid liner wand - I am not crazy about the actual liquid. I'm not sure if it's just not that thick/opaque or if it comes out too heavy so that the point of the applicator drags through it, but it just doesn't give a nice consistent line, which means I have to go over it a few times, and each time I have to go over it is just opportunity for screwing it up.
ReplyDeleteYour cosmetic bag is beyond adorable!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see someone else using ELF! I'm a cheap makeup junkie (usually buy my stuff from the dollar store), so I was really happy to stumble upon another inexpensive yet quality brand at Target. Their bronzer/blush duo is awesome! I also like their liquid eyeliner (just $1!).
ReplyDeleteI love this! I also did a "What's in My Make-up Bag" post over on my blog :)

great post! :)
ReplyDeleteMake certain your skin is clean and dry before you request an expensive moisturizer or facial elite. I have a powder/make-up that's a two-in-one deal, just add water!, mascara from them as well, and then bronzer and blush.. I actually use an eyeshadow as my highlighter - it has the flawless shade.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
obagi nu derm starter kit
some great products i definitely have to check out.
ReplyDeletei need to do a whats in my summer make up bag post on my blog too.
I used (and loved) that e.l.f tinted moisturizer for the longest time! The only problem I had with it (and all e.l.f products) is that even their lightest shades were never light enough for my skin tone. /: But I highly recommend their undereye highlighter! I use it on my cheek bones. ^.^

Ooh we are makeup twins. I switched from tinted moisturizer to Dr Jart's BB cream a little while ago though and my face is like an angel's now. But I LOVE that bombshell felt tip for the same reasons. Did you get it in a subscription box? I think mine was from ipsy or birchbox. I'm a total snob about Juicy too but I have a double ended roller ball with two of their scents that is my default travel perfume, I love it. Cute post! I have such a ladyboner for seeing other people's makeup bags.
ReplyDeleteHi! I love your blog, but I'm not usually a 'commenter.' I've been working on my ideal makeup bag for a really long time and I finally just got it together and posted to my blog. *high five* on the F21 Makeup bag, btw. ;)
