Feelin' Fancy

I worked up the courage and confidence (finally!) to wear red lipstick the other day. I've kind of found myself a little bit obsessed with lipstick as of late but I normally gravitate toward very pale and pearly pinks. I wore it all day long, and even put it on again yesterday (in these pictures) just to feel fancy. I realized just how much of a pep it put in my step. It stands out, calls attention to you and basically says "OH HEY, I'M HERE! RED LIPS, Y'ALL!" haha I kid! But in all honesty, we each have that one little thing that we do to make ourselves feel special, right? Be it a certain dress, curling our hair, putting on our favorite hoodie to lounge around in (even though that seems so backward). Even when we have no intention of leaving the house, doing this little thing for ourselves can seem like a real treat. (Seriously, I'm wearing bright red lipstick with gym clothes and ratty gym hair! Can't get much classier than that! ;) haha)

So my question for you is...
What is your special little thing? What do you do for yourself to make you feel like a million bucks?

PS; My lovely friend Moorea wrote one of the most inspiring posts about growing up and being bullied. She challenged her readers to "Paint Your Love" and that means to paint your nails a different color to show that self expression is beautiful! Moorea has been a constant source of encouragement for me and she truly has a way with words. She's putting herself out there to relate to others. She's a total gem and I know you'll find inspiration and encouragement in her post!

PPS; My new fabulous red lipstick is L'oreal Infallible in Refined Ruby!

  4. Uh oh! That color on you is just fabulous! Wish I had the guts to do such a thing. Maybe one day.....maybe. Haha. It is true that the lipstick definitely glammed you up. I can see it in your pictures that you felt great too. One thing that I do to feel better? Or get a pep in my step? It's usually when I actually wear normal clothes. Haha. I work at home, so I'm always...seriously, ALWAYS in pajamas. I feel bad for my boyfriend when he comes over, but he's ok with it. Sometimes though, it's so great to dress up to work at my other job. Honestly..one of the major reasons why I got another job. Haha. Hope you're having a great day! :)

  5. I loose my hair due to a medical issue and it has taken me years and years to finally accept this about myself. To feel fancy I put on a funky colored wig and glam up the makeup (usually I never bother with anything more than mascara) - even if I'm lounging around the house or going to the grocery store :)

  7. It makes me feel good when I can take a really long time to get ready for my day, so I always wake up way earlier than I need to to get ready. I like to slowly wake up sipping tea and catching up on a few blogs or reading a book. I like to take a long shower with nice beautiful smelling soap and use a luxurious scrub. I spend time shaving my legs and washing my face. I take my time doing my hair and experimenting with makeup. I always feel so much better when I can just relax and ease into my day like this. I hate it when I wake up late because I have to rush around and I can't do half of that stuff! Haha

  8. Eyeliner. It's really as simple as that. I feel a million times prettier wearing eyeliner than I do without it.

I want to get into a red lip though, it's a little nerve wracking. I keep thinking I'll come downstairs and my mother will be like 'what is that on your face?'

  11. why haven't you done red lips earlier! You look gorgeous! I felt the same way about red lips and when i finally did it, i felt amazing, gave me confidence, so i would say red lips and a feminine dress makes me feel oh so good!

  12. I have recently gotten into bright red lipstick too! i put some on one day to take goofy pictures with my roommate and found out that it actually looked okay on me, much to my surprise. normally to feel fancy i will put on a face mask, dye my hair, and do my nails. sometimes i'll even add shaving my legs just to mix things up a bit. its amazing how you feel after some late night at home pampering

  13. In the "real world," I put on heels. I am faire goer, so on those special weekends I throw myself into a corset and feel ultra condifent!

  14. "Oh, you fancy huh?" (haha... that's the first thing that came to mind after seeing your post title). I like styling my hair or dressing up in wonderful flowy dresses to make me feel good. :-)

  15. The red lipstick is fabulous! I bought my very first tube of red lipstick a couple weeks ago and unfortunately haven't worn it much (mostly because I don't want to get it all over my boyfriend), but you've inspired me to wear it to work and other places that I don't have to worry about smearing it all over my face! Thanks Kaelah!

  16. The red lipstick looks fantastic on you. :)

my favorite thing to do that makes me feel like a million bucks would definitely have to be crimping/straightening my white girl afro. lol
either ore works... just as long as my hair doesn't look like I stuck my finger in a light socket. :D

My special thing to do is wear perfume - my favs are Pink Sugar and Viva La Juicy. I think of it like aromatherapy ;)

  20. I think you look gorgeous with the red lipstick! But basically I think you look gorgeous anyway, I love your cheek piercings :)

I guess my special little thing would be extra-black cat eyes. I wear eyeliner everyday but sometimes it has to be a little "over the top" to make me feel good ;)

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I borrowed one of your photos from a past post for a "summing up favourites" post over at my blog. I hope you don't mind! In case you do please let me know and I'll remove the picture.

    Happy Friday!

If I need to feel better or cheer myself up I always put on my favorite pair of skinny jeans and my favorite shirt after fixing my hair.. and then I just make something yummy to eat! Always makes me feel good. ^.^

  25. That red lipstick looks awesome on you! The one thing I do to make me feel better or give me that boost is putting on my liquid liner & mascara!

  26. You look gorgeous with ruby red lips!
It usually depends on the day with what I do to feel glam. I usually wear dark eyeliner and have recently switched to just mascara... the compliments I received made me feel naturally beautiful.
If I want to turn heads though I always pop on some red gloss and curl my hair. Painting my toenails works too.

  27. The bright lips look so pretty on you! I'm always too shy to wear anything other than some plum-colored stain. :D

  28. My mom always said, never go without lipstick and earrings:)...They are the two things that make me feel like, yeah-- I tried today (even if I'm wearing them with ratty leggings and my Target ugg knock-offs:) hahaha...they do make me feel purdy though;0)

  29. You look great! Good for you for taking risks -- I'm starting to do that more myself! It feels wonderful :)

I have some silver jewelry that makes me feel all good and fuzzy and warm inside. My great uncle was a master Haida carver/artist and he also carved silver jewelry. I have a few of his pieces -- a ring, a cuff bracelet, and two pairs of earrings (one even has some abalone!). My great uncle passed away a few years ago, making his art even more special and precious. I was lucky enough to get a few pieces from his last collection. They're all very beautiful and all of mine depict Raven, usually Stealing Daylight for the People.

They mean a lot to me personally, and culturally. I feel more beautiful when I wear my silver jewelry and happier. I'm actually wearing some right now and today's just been a good day :)

  30. i think your lip color looks amazing on you :) personally, to make myself feel better, i wash my hair. sounds silly, but when my hair looks terrible, i feel like i look a mess, but when i wash it and blow dry it, i feel so much better.

I flat iron my hair for that special something. Scott likes my curly hair but I love straight hair on myself.

  34. love it. i always like to wear some super high platforms to feel special. or rock my hair as big and curly as possible with feathers in it. :)

fun girly stuff is just the best, isn't it?

  37. Hi Kaelah,
I've just bought 2 different shades of red lipstick to try, but I'm still a little shy. I wasn't sure if an orange base or blue base would be best... so I've got both to try, and perhaps it will depend what I'm wearing. Either way, you've given me the boost that I needed, and I'll be trying them both tonight! Thanks!

  38. l'oreal has the prettiest red lipsticks! i have the same one, and always feel fancy when i put it on.

i always feel extra fancy when i wear heels. it doesn't happen often, since i'm 5'10 and tall enough on my own, but once in awhile i'll wear a pair and feel great!

  39. kaelah, you look gorgeous! like a pin up girl! i just recently got that type of lipstick in "perennial pink" and i LOVE it. red lipstick is actually the thing that makes me feel like a million bucks. also wearing heels! i dont do it often (cause i can never find an occasion to unfortunately) but at my old job, i used to sometimes and i always felt so good when i did.

  40. To feel special I usually wear a funky pair of earrings. OR I use a facial mask and unveil radiant skin before I go out. Make-up always makes me feel... not like myself... so I only really wear it for special occasions or if I am cast in a show.

  41. Ahhh you look so different in these photos... not in a bad way of course... I think the red lips just give you such a different look! I like! <3

I bought red lipstick for the first time a couple weeks ago and I've only worn it once, and not even in public. I am so timid with it! Perhaps I'll wear some today around the apartment in an effort to get more comfortable with it!

  42. I think your red lips look awesome especially with your lighter skin tone, it really pops. I love how girls fight different confidence battles...I'd wear red lipstick w/o even thinking about it, but getting up the courage to rock a super awesome blue/violet/pink wig is something I hope to but might never bring myself to do.

To boost my mood i get dressed up, even with no where to go. Making dinner in full make up and a cute dress makes it way more fun.

thanks for being so awesome! i love reading about your adventures in life!

  43. You look so lovely with red lipstick kaelah, I totally know what you mean in terms of it feeling quite special. Its a glamorous break from the usual routine eh :) Even though me and my boyfriend have been going out for a few years now, I always get butterflies when we have 'date night' and get ready and dressed up to go out for dinner. Even though I live with him, and we share the most mundane daily tasks together, I always get such a kick of getting dressed up to go to dinner for him. It will never stop feeling special, like our first date all over again :) xx

  44. I was so excited to see this post!
I decided that I was going to start wearing lipstick about 3 months ago. Personally, I never wear much makeup. I was never allowed to wear it growing up, and my long-time boyfriend thinks I'm beautiful au natural, so it's just easier. But I bought 3 tubes (2 ELF and 1 NYC, because I didn't want to spend much money) I love them. One of these day's I'll find "my" color, and wear it exclusively. Bright, red lipstick makes me feel like a bombshell, and it really makes a gal's face pop. Although I do need to develop a non-smearing habit!

    You look wonderful, darling. :)
