// Happy Two Years, Mr. Flynn

Two years ago I married my best friend. I used to side-eye people a little when they said they were married to their best friend, but now I get it. I am sharing my forever with the one person I love to laugh, cry, bicker and debate with. We always share a drink, and I chase him around the house with pickles (I love them and he thinks they're disgusting). We binge watch Netflix together when he's not studying, and I drill him with flashcards on disorders and medications I can barely pronounce. He's given me the gift of two precious little boys, and I can't wait to spend the rest of forever with him. I'd marry this man a thousand times over just to relive the excitement of our wedding day. I'll never get tired of these photos.

I had a big, long post whirling around in my head, but then I read what I wrote last year and it honestly summed up our relationship perfectly. No sense in trying to out do that one. I'll just say I'm looking forward to many more road trips and adventures and kids together. This one is a keeper! xo

It's crazy to me that one year ago today I stood in front of this man, my hands shaking and eyes welling up, to declare my unshakeable loyalty and love. I stumbled on my vows, despite the unbelievable amount of time I spent rehearsing, and I even managed to spit on him mid-sentence (seriously!). I ugly-cried and my voice shook the entire time, the clouds sprinkled on top of us and the wind chilled us to the bone, we lost my wedding band at the alter (and never found it) and the DJ bailed the day before... but you know what? It was the best day. We laughed, we danced (oh, we danced!), and my nearest and dearest friends sang karaoke with me at the bar afterward. It really and truly was the very best day.

It seriously seems like just yesterday Mike was proposing to me under the illuminated Bradford Pear trees. Never did I expect the first year to zoom by so fast. In the past twelve months we've traveled, enrolled a kid in school (!!!), renovated a house, made huge business plans, argued about the laundry, and grown as man and wife, just to name a few. If you would have told me in 2006 that I would marry this boy, I'd have laughed in your face. I adored him, but we were just so young. Three years later and we were attached at the hip. It's been the same ever since! Sometimes our marriage just doesn't seem fair... it doesn't seem right that I could spend almost every waking moment with the same person and still stand the sight of him. I think we got really lucky in that regard. I've occasionally pondered what life would be like without Mike and I just can't. I can't fathom what my day to day life would entail. (I know what would happen to Mike without me though... He'd burn down the house! I swear that man does not realize there's an "Off" button on the oven... haha!)

In an effort to share just a little slice of our marriage, here are a few things I'm thankful for:
  • He always lets me have the outside of the Italian loaf bread. Mike likes the fluffy center so between us we've got it covered. It's the little things...
  • He cooks for me because despite my best efforts, I'm really just a lousy chef.
  • He indulges me in my love for all things pink and glittery.
  • He lets me put my freezing cold feet on him in the Winter to warm them up when we crawl into bed. (My toes are basically ice cubes... That man, I'm tellin' ya!)
  • He stands his ground where it counts, no matter how much I pester otherwise. (Sometimes I really do not need to have my way!)
  • He tolerates my insane coffee mug collection (and has even admitted to enjoying the morning routine).
  • He lets me sleep in a little bit later than him every morning if I want. Whether it's 30 minutes or 2 hours, he's incredibly considerate.
  • He's always happy to build any and everything my mind can conjure up. He's the very best handyman.
  • He zips up every pesky dress of mine that has a center-back zipper. (I have T-Rex arms apparently).
  • He's always "on" when I seem to be "off" (and vice versa) when it comes to being a parent. We balance each other out perfectly.
  • He blessed me with the gift of Toby. My life would not remotely be the same without that kid.
  • And even better, he allows me to be a mother to Toby. The very best gift of all!

I could write for days on end about how much I love this man, but I'll spare you all of the details because I'm already crying and we've got a bottle of wine to celebrate with! To make a long story short, I feel so very lucky to call this man mine. The first year was amazing. Here's to many, many more!

Happy anniversary, Mr. Flynn. Thanks for making me your Mrs.

Love is sweet...

I fully intended on having this outfit post up sooner but that minor sickness that Mike and I were both battling on Sunday has come full swing. We are both down and out. He was sent home from work today and I haven't even thought about getting out of my pajamas. Sore throats, coughs galore... we're a pitiful couple today. Luckily he's off work tomorrow so we're going to stay in, drink Nyquil, and battle it out [with bubble baths!].

I'm also in the middle of a redesign for the little ol' blog but I'm trying to teach myself some things that college skimped out on.

I really loved dressing up for our anniversary. We didn't do anything extravagant. We went looking for promise rings (but opted for Etsy), ran a few errands (how romantic!), and ate dinner at Macaroni Grill (where our first "date" was). We ended the night by coming home, climbing into our jammies and watching Dexter and a movie.

Typically Mike and I never get sick at the same time. Usually it's one after the other so we can kind of manage the household. Now we're both out of it and the pups need to be played with and the house tended to. Hopefully tomorrow proves to be a healthier day!

I'll be back and better than ever soon! xo

Year One: In Retrospect.

The thought of Mike and I having only been together one year so far is absolutely mind-boggling. No one can seem to fathom it themselves. My parents were thinking two years, as was Angela at work. Honestly, it feels like seven or eight! Of course I mean that in the best way possible, but to think that Mike and I have only been living together for a year is pretty crazy. (Yes, for those of you who do not know... Mike and I practically moved in together the day we started dating!) Granted we had dated prior, so that probably helped, but everything just felt right.

I remember saying to my mom that I felt so much happier in the first three days with Mike than I did the entire three years with my previous boyfriend. So much has happened in our year together thus far. We moved in together, we celebrated our first Christmas and our first New Years, took a road trip to the mountains for our first Valentine's Day, subsequently suffered a camel bite on said V-Day trip [!!!] and laughed too hard in the emergency room, watched the entire Dexter series while eating veggie stirfry on our new couch, saw our very first movie together in theaters [and we still have every movie ticket ever!], lost everything we owned in the May floods, cried and grew from said tragedy, moved back in with my parents for the month prior to me moving to NYC, celebrated Georgia's first birthday, spent an entire summer battling the woes associated with long distance relationships, spent too much money in airfare between NYC and Nashville, had picnics in Central Park and skipped the big fireworks, experienced so many firsts, moved into our very own little townhouse [just us and Georgia!], decorated to our hearts content, thrifted until we looked like we lived in a Goodwill, roadtripped to Louisville to meet a fellow blogger-turned-wonderful-friend, roadtripped all around 5 states just to find a town to call home in the future [and to build a sandpig next to the Atlantic!], adopted a sweet new baby into our clan, graduated college and celebrated our first year together.

I can't imagine what the next fifty will entail! All I know is that I've never loved someone so much and I've never had someone love me as fiercely in return. Respect, honesty and integrity permeate our relationship and make it the stronger than I could have ever imagined.

Mike,
I can't wait to live, learn, laugh, love, travel, create, and grow with you over the next many many years just as I have in this first one. You are truly the most remarkable person I have ever met and you inspire me every single day. I love you.
xo

I'll have more of a recap for you tomorrow! We were both pretty sickly and not feeling too hot all day but it was still very special. But now... we need to go watch Dexter!
