OOF! Y'all, this week has been a doozy! We just finished Mike's first rotation of work (working 3 12-hour overnight shifts in a row) and we're trying to learn the groove of things. It means Mike pulls in the driveway exactly as my alarm goes off to get Toby ready for school. He usually crawls directly into bed because holy tired! and then I take both boys down to the bus stop (~.25 miles down the road or so). Mike sleeps most of the day while I tend to Linden and work around the house. Then he's up for a couple of hours before having to head back. It's been interesting to say the least. I'm glad we made it through the first week haha! I'm glad he's really enjoying his job though, so that's a bonus. And two incomes!
Anyway, this week Linden decided he was a toddler. I think I mentioned that earlier this week, but here's some visual proof of said transformation. Usually I turn on an episode of Octonauts in the morning while I cook breakfast, but it typically only holds his attention for about 2.5 minutes. He dances through "Creature Report" and then he's over it. He's also ben sick this week so we're dealing with that on top of the new found independence. One night, less than 15 minutes after Mike left for work, Linden dumped out an entire bag of Cheez-its. The next day he dumped out an entire bag of chips. Then stepped on them. He destroyed the living room after being awake less than 10 minutes. Y'all he is something else.
But even with all of the chaos, I'm still feeling pretty proud. I've managed to cook 3 meals a day, pack Mike's lunch each night, keep everyone in clean clothes, and be more productive on the work front than I though I would. I'm giving myself a virtual pat on the back because holy moly, it's a whole new world!
And I'm going to finish this rambling post with a ridiculously cute photo of Toby from this morning, because look how grown up he is! He picked a flower for Granma this morning, and wanted me to send her a photo at work. He picked me one yesterday. He has a heart of gold. We're all so lucky.
Fellow mamas to toddlers, can we create an online Toddler Support Group?! I'm legit serious. Like a Facebook group. Maybe called "Reasons Why My Child Sucks Today" hahahaha Kidding. Kind of. But not really. Seriously, if I make it, will you join? Can we commiserate together?! Will you tell me that I'm not rotting my kid's brain by letting him watch Octonauts (and sometimes Bob's Burgers)?! Seriously. Let me know. LOLOLOLOL.
xo KB
PS; I made the group! Search "TCL Toddler Support Group" on Facebook and request to join! Commiserate with us!
I'm definitely interested! My little dude was born about two weeks before Linden and if it wasn't for the power of Elmo, this household would all be very tired.
ReplyDeleteI would be alllll over this! My daughter is 8 weeks older than Linden and holy moly - will she ever sit still again? :)) mickey mouse clubhouse holds her attention for about 45 seconds and then she's off. We may have watched Despicable Me for the last 3 days bc it is the only thing that will let me get anything done! :) Please create so I can join!
ReplyDeleteGirllll, you will get through this! Remember it's only a season! I hear ya tho! & my kids are 10, 15 & 16 now! Ha! Brian also works the midnight shift and gets home just as I have to leave and drop kids off at school when summer is over. While I personally love sleeping alone (for real tho), I know how rough it can be with opposite schedules! I've been there...Grayson was quite the little trouble maker. I have an entire scrapbook of messes he made at that age, ha! He also never slept and was awake 10-20 times a night. I was definitely a mombie. I will say that you need to be sure to take care of YOU during these times! Don't neglect self-care. It's so important! I developed postpartum that lasted a couple years and went untreated. It wasn't pretty. Don't feel like you're being selfish about it either. It's necessary!!! Big hugs! I can promise you that you're doing way better than you think you are!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Grayson also looooved watching Love Connection and The View. He would just laugh and laugh thinking they were talking to him. He loved Chuck Woolery and his brain is just fine now! haha!
My little one is only 7 weeks old and I think he sucks sometimes. LOL He just screams bloody murder and hates being held. Breaks my heart. But I would totally join this group if you'd allow a member with a newborn instead of a toddler. :)
ReplyDeleteYES. I am so on this group. PLEASE make it, I will be your First Mate of Toddler Insanity. Audra is JUST hitting this stage where we just start pulling everything out frantically, then smashing it all together, then realizing there's a lamp plugged into the wall in the corner and scooting for it like it's going out of style.
ReplyDeleteNot being home with her all day is basically our saving grace, haha - thank God for daycare letting her get a lot of wiggles out before we pick her up!
I would join that group in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteI would join that group in a HEARTBEAT. Especially after yesterday's misadventures with a burnt mouth, floor tantrums, me getting bit, then my son's first busted lip.
ReplyDeleteLiterally, had to have two margaritas after that ordeal.
great post! i would totally join!

THE KAWAII PLANET
Hello! This is totally random and doesn't have anything to do with your current post, but I stumbled across your blog searching out remodeled campers that people used for stores, and thus found yours! I am interested in pursuing this and had some questions about how to go about it. Would you mind answering some? Yours looks so cute, as well as your blog in general! Love your style! Thanks in advance!

My friend Vicki is the designer and creator of Octonauts -- it's kind of inspiring since she was a 1 woman designer :)
