READING: I'm about halfway through three different books, but I'd be ashamed to tell you how long it's been since I picked one of them up. I stocked up on Amazon a few months back : Sophie Kinsella, Anna Maxted, etc. (My very favorite authors!) but I've yet to allow myself time to relax and read. Our hammock is fully functional and canopied by twinkelights, so I think it's about time I took advantage of the evening cool down to read.

WONDERING: How on Earth we'll be able to churn out all of the necessary product to stock Honeybean with at Porter Flea. I know my post yesterday included much of this same worry, but I'm sitting in our living room completely surrounded by craft supplies, lists, and finished products. We made a huge dent in the production needs of items last night, but we have a long week and a half ahead of us.

FEELING THANKFUL: To be self employed and able to do what I love day in and day out. Just this morning I was working out our budget for bills, Honeybean, and "fun" when I started to panic. I worked myself all up before realizing that client invoices were due and payments would be made to us today. Running your own show isn't always the most lucrative gig, but every panic session and worry is trumped by creating things with our hands and being proud of the finished product. There is both an air of excitement and absolute fear in being 100% responsible for yourself (and family).

EATING: a lot of fresh strawberries! My mom has the best little strawberry patch and each year brings a more bountiful harvest than the last. She made mention in passing how it'd be nice to own her own little strawberry farm, and ever since she said that, I've been consumed with the adorable idea. It'd be darling, yea?

WATCHING: tonight we're set to watch the season three finale of Downton Abbey. Everyone has prepared me for the "WTF" aspect, but I'm quite intrigued. We're all done with Hart of Dixie so once DA is over, I'm not sure what we'll be watching to help pass the crafting time! Do y'all have any suggestions?!

WORKING ON: felt bows, felt flowers, repurposed button items, handpainted pennants, envelope pillows, jewelry, tents, handpainted wooden signs... you name it! All in the name of handmade and Porter Flea.

LOVING: this summer sunshine! While it's about 90 degrees with 90% humidity right now, that sunshine is pretty great! (Okay, truth be told - I spend 95% of the day indoors because the air is so thick it's hard to breathe, but I do love the option of taking a break from the daily grind to hop into the pool.

ATTEMPTING: to unload the last 35 items in Kaelah's Closet! Even after they're all gone, I'll need to clear out another load of stuff, too. I wish shipping shoes wasn't so expensive because I literally have a hundred or more pairs that I'd like to sell! - If you're keen to help me clear out these items, you can take 25% off everything at Kaelah's Closet with code 'TWENTYFIVE'! :D

WANTING: someone to kick my butt into gear early on Saturday mornings in order to take advantage of local yard sales! Some of our very best finds have been from the garages of people here in town. Some of them simply don't know what they have! -- I could also really go for a coffee shop. Small town problems!

What are you up to today?

  1. I am currently also really behind on my reading, but that's just because on weekends, I just want to turn my brain off and not do anything, and then during the week, I'm too tired from work. Le sigh.
I'm sure all your things will be amazing (how could they not be), and that Porter Flea will be just fine! :)
Also, may I suggest you watch Leverage or Franklin and Bash next, two of my favorites (which is saying something, because I literally watch like 40 different series at any given time). If you need more suggestions, lemme know! ;)

  2. I love this feature! And don't feel bad about not reading, the only reading I got in the past month was because I was on a plane, haha. I was excited for the plane ride because it meant I had time to read.

Also you must start garage sale-ing, it's the best. It's like a treasure hunt following the colorful signs and occasionally wondering where in town you ended up... because you've never been there before.

  15. I've been in such a reading slump as well, although I FINALLY finished a book today that I've been slacking on for the past month. As for tv recommendations, I love watching How I Met Your Mother while crafting because it's such an easy going show but it does have it's little flair of drama. Also, Psych, Revenge, White Collar and Vampire Diaries are really good :)

  18. You should give Mr Selfridge a try- it's the same-ish time period as Downton but it shows a very different part of society. The first episode or two felt a little awkward, but now I am hooked. Also- new obsession- do you watch Game of Thrones? It took me forever to give it a try but then I became hooked, and there are three seasons of that you could work your way through :) I wish you the best of luck in your preparations with Honeybean!

  22. As far as suggestions for TV shows to watch- check out 'Sherlock' from the BBC, starring the sex machine known as Benedict Cumberbatch. There are 2 seasons out so far, and each season has only 3 episodes. Each episode is like a mini-movie that can stand alone but flows into an overall storyline (much like Sir Conan Doyle's books...which is the point) You know the CBS show "Elementary"? This is the same concept- a modern-day story where Sherlock Holmes is a real person, not a fictional character, and is a 'consulting detective' that the police turn to when they can't solve crimes themselves- only this show came before 'Elementary'. Also it's 100x's better.

  23. So, I'm curious... have you ever had to "convince" Mike to "let" you get a tattoo? I really want to get my shins done sometime in the near future, but my (moderately tattooed) husband doesn't think shin tattoos are attractive. Just wondering if you've ever gone through something like that? <3

  24. I LOVE your tattoos! I plan on starting the process of getting my side tattoo covered next week. And you're such an inspiration! I want to be self employeed but at the same time it's very scary! Following your journey helps me prepare myself to leap into it myself!

  25. A STRAWBERRY FARM ARE YOU KIDDING ME? YESSSSS! and i can't wait to see all your goodies at porter flea! i'm *currently* working like a madwoman to get vegan marshmallows perfected this month— it keeps feeling like "two steps forward one step back' type crap but i know it will all be worth it soon.

when i'm not mallowing i've been making some books AND i just ordered a few books to read on handmade businesses.— i'm gearing up to finally follow my dreams and perhaps this time next year i'll be holed up at home churning out goodies for people to snatch up at craft fairs. . .

  28. I've been meaning to ask! does it bother you at all that you see people getting your leg pieces on them? I know that corinne kind of gave up caring, but I've wondered how you felt about it.

    1. eh, i don't pay it any mind. my shin tattoos aren't like ~*super meaningful or anything (in fact, they serve no meaningful purpose. i just like the aesthetic). plus i'd say it's safe to assume *hundreds* of people ended up with them tattooed so there's no reason to even care at this point haha

    2. hahaha I feel the same way about all of mine. I just have seen girls get super pissy when people "copy" them. it's usually the same girls that think they invented bright red hair and nose rings...
