Can I just say how awesome and amazing y'all are (re: this post)?! Seriously, your comments are so kind and considerate. It's so nice knowing even the silliest of things can be shared among others. It also helps me feel a little less ridiculous for having those thoughts.

Now to throw a big fat cherry on top of that sundae: wearing a petticoat in a small town! Haha If a gold dress doesn't do it, surely this will, right? Emma from Dollydagger sent over this amazing pin-up inspired dress all the way from the UK, and I couldn't wait to get that baby on. I've already made my new found love for hot pink known, and this outfit is certainly no exception. I do wish I had some better shoes to pair it with though. I think the shoes and the long(er) cardigan definitely give it a casual vibe while then the petticoat is the exact opposite, but I could use some simple pumps, I think. I went back and forth over having the petticoat show underneath or not, but ultimately I decided I liked the fluffy texture it added to the outfit. I've been trying to figure out what else I have in my wardrobe that might look good with this dress but I'm coming up short. Here's the dress itself. What would you pair it with? This weekend was a nice break from the internet for the most part (well, minus social media... which is basically the entire internet so scratch that first sentence ha). Mike and I spent some time in Nashville on Saturday. We went to the flea market with our friends Maya and Justin, but it was rainy miserable mess and I managed to complain the whole time (sorry friends!) After that we ran errands, paid bills, did boring ol' adult stuff and then hit up our trusty favorites: TJ Maxx, Marshall's and Ross. Yesterday we managed to sleep in, plant a whole lot of flowers in our flower bed, move our picnic table over to the house, install a client's design and even work on some painted signs. The last thing on my mind was the blog haha I feel like I always have these big, exciting plans for our weekends, but they never really pan out in that way. Normally I stay as far away from client work and emails as I can, but I had some loose ends to finish up. I'm trying to make it more of a priority to just kick back and enjoy those two days with Mike and Toby -- I guess I'll try again this coming weekend! As long as I feel relaxed come Monday, I consider it a success!

Today I'm starting a (somewhat challenging!) design project and I'm hoping to learn a lot of exciting things along the way. Normally in situations like this I have to lock myself in my office and just work at it until I figure things out but I'll admit that I'm feeling a bit stumped! That's the perfect opportunity to expand my knowledge though so cross your fingers. Toby has a baseball game later today and both my parents and Mike's will be there to spectate. Afterward we're having both sets of parents over for grilling out and enjoying the lush green foliage that now canopies our deck/picnic table. It was a rainy mess all weekend but boy oh boy, the greenery around our yard sure does look nice!

Here's to hoping you have a spectacular start to your week! xo

  3. I love this dress, and the petticoat adds some much volume to the skirt. It's such a lovely shape! I'm totally behind my blog reading but I went and checked out your post and I'm so sorry you feel that way. My style tends to swing between incredibly casual, like so make up and jeans, to pretty dresses and stuff that makes me feel amazing. My friends accept it but I think if you don't know me the change can be a bit confusing, and sometimes people don't know what to make of it. Especially when I am haning our with my incredibly hippy friends in a pink tea dress and a bow in my hair. Anytime you break with the norm,; in your town or within your social group people are going to notice.

Honestly I can't imagine any looks you are getting, real or imagined, are anything other than jealousy. I've definitely coveted items in your closet more than a few times :)

I think moving into a new community people will find something to notice about you, it's kind of like joining a new school. Being known as the girl with the rocking tattoos and sweet style doesn't sound too bad. I can definitely think of worse! xo

  7. I think that there's always so much pressure to have an awesome time on the two days off we have each week (if that's the work schedule we're on) that it's hard to fit everything in and actually enjoy it without feeling you should be doing something more or something else! Also, I love the dress: I would pair it with some round toe white heels and a cute cropped denim jacket.

  12. I have this dress and am wearing it (sans petticoat) to a friend's wedding this summer. Pretty enough to feel wonderful in it, but not to steal the show :)

  15. My Heavens! That is my favorite of all of your dresses! I Love love love that one.

I read your post the other day about self-consciousness and your tattoos and small town, etc.

Personally, I think you are super brave. I know the small town mind-set and how hard it can be to step outside the box and be yourself sometimes. I love your dresses. I want to ask you ten thousand questions about your tattoos and I think you're just great.

  19. I love this dress with its poufy crinoline! I think it would look super Rita Moreno with a black crinoline, shrug, and belt. And sky high shoes. Vampy! Also, belatedly, I think I might actually have to BUY the dress from the gold post...COULD IT BE MORE MAD MEN. Madame, it could not. I LOVE IT.

  23. Beautiful dress and cute with the petticoat! I am a big fan of petticoats but it took me some time to get the courage to wear one. Now I wear one every day , it makes my dresses look so much better. (You just have to be careful because a lot can get stuck to it. I got home from a 8 hour workday and found my son´s spoon with jam from breakfast hanging on my petticoat -lovely:)

  25. Ohh my gosh, that beautiful dress with that perfect petticoat is simply amazing! You look great in that shade of hot pink! I think I've visited Dolly Dagger's website before (I think your link might not be working? But I did a google search) but I'm so glad you reminded me of them! Their dresses are right up my alley. :)

  26. Gosh, I love this!! It's also so nice to be linked back to a UK site for once ;) I'm in the UK and I do admit to having a penchant for US blogs over UK ones but sometimes it's so frustrating not to be able to buy anything from the store that US bloggers promote! Hehe. (P.S. Your link to Dollydagger has one too many Ls!)

I'd wear the dress with maybe a denim jacket or a leather jacket for a bit of an edge? Pumps would be cute! Could you wear some tan coloured boots and a lots of wooden jewellery to make it a bit more boho? A green cardigan would be fun too! I got a great one from Aerie (American Eagle) last time I was in the US. Sadly another store I can't really buy from here in the UK! Shipping is so expensive!

  27. I am already a HUGE dolly dagger fan, and PS I know all about wearing a crinoline in a small town. Funny stares and funny looks, but I still wear them!!

  28. You look amazing I love that dress and I find that dresses like this can be dressed up or down. Maybe without the petticoat too make it more casual with a jean jacket and cute flats? maybe cute sneakers like keds? BUT a cardigan and wedges never fail. You are getting me really excited to do some planting this week :)

  29. That dress!! I'm so in love! I just love the petticoat and I think the best dresses have them. So very classy. Hope Toby had a good game and you guys had a fantastic get together with your families afterwards! ^.^

  30. This dress is absolutely wonderful with the petticoat underneath! It's so full and pretty. The print is perfectly spring-y too. I think something blue would look really nice with it next time you wear it. The pink cardigan is gorgeous with it though!
