// A Spontaneous Date Day

Yesterday Mike and I were at home with Linden and I was piddling around the kitchen when he told me to get dressed and get in the car. What? It's not very often Mike is restless on a day off. Usually he prefers to hang out at home, sleep in, and maybe play a little too much Xbox. I was caught off guard by his comments, but I didn't miss a beat! Dressed and ready, we hopped in the car with the intention of paying a bill and exchanging some sheets at Target. Yeah, I know, super romantic! Mike kept driving though, and it while it took me a few minutes to realize it, we were long past Target. I asked where he was taking us and he said we were going to go out for lunch in downtown Franklin. My heart! A spontaneous date day in my favorite town! 

I miss living in downtown Franklin so much. Every time we're there I tell Mike I'm ready to move back. I love living in our little town, but my heart will always be in Franklin. It was a bit early for lunch when we got there so we totally did take advantage of exchanging Toby's sheets and picking up a few things for ourselves. Afterward we headed downtown and changed our lunch destination from Merridee's to Mellow Mushroom. Linden was stoked! That kid devoured his meatballs and broccoli! Mike and I split a pizza. Spicy buffalo chicken for him and Maui Wowie for me. YUM! After lunch we strolled around downtown, got some iced coffee, and just enjoyed a slow afternoon. We had to head back home shortly after though, so we could get Toby from school. It was just the little pick me up I needed to start the week off right!

Mike isn't spontaneous very often, but when he is, I love every minute of it.

// Date Day

We took advantage of the nice weather and Mike's Spring Break last Tuesday and had ourselves a little "date day!" (matching Converse and all, ha!) I had mentioned we were on the hunt for some patio furniture and a new grill for respective birthday gifts to each other, so that's what we set out to do. Toby was in school so we loaded up Linden and headed toward Franklin for the day. We ended up finding the perfect set of huge, cozy patio chairs and a matching glass-top coffee table. Thank you, Martha Stewart! haha Mike found the grill he had been wanting and by the end of the day we were totally set on having a snazzy back deck. We grabbed some lunch at Chipotle, bought some new planters, and even made a run to Ivey Cake for our favorite cupcakes. It was a much needed break from the chaos of our recent days. Most days I feel like I'm drowning, so a few hours together, away from work, were totally necessary (and perfect!)

We had our first cookout on our deck this past weekend, too. We invited over some friends and our neighbors, too. We lit that place up with an outrageous amount of twinklelights and after dinner we roasted marshmallows over the firepit. Mmmm, s'mores! Probably not the most appropriate food for a Tuesday morning, yeah?  

Date day was a total success and now we have a deck I want to lounge on for hours! Overall I'd say it was a big, epic win! I'll be sure to share some photos of said deck once everything is planted and finished. Happy Tuesday! xo

// Our Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is my favorite! Seriously, I could say it a hundred times (I'm sure I have, actually). It's my favorite holiday because I love all of the red and pink and hearts and love. Yes, I love the love! haha This year was super special because Mike's parents offered to take the kids off our hands for a full night! What! I mentioned last week that I had a little bit of anxiety about leaving Linden overnight, but I'm so happy to report everything went so well! Too well, maybe? That baby won't sleep through the night for me, but he magically slept from 8:30 to 2am, and then 2:30am until 6 (and then 6:30 til 8am!)... I definitely made Terri tell me all of her secrets haha! I'm currently trying to implement all of them at home so fingers crossed we get him on a better night schedule soon!

Anyway, that was a tangent... Valentine's Day! Yes! Okay, so we dropped the boys off in Lawrenceburg around 12:30pm and then we headed south to Florence (Alabama) for the day. We grabbed lunch, bought some goodies at the book store, roamed around downtown, picked up a few bottles of wine, had drinks and dinner at Rosie's Cantina, and then started the too-long drive home. We cuddled up and enjoyed a night with just the two of us. No tiny space heater between us ha! It was such a special day/night and I'm so glad we were able to spend it together. It meant a lot to us that Mike's parents were willing to tread into the "unknown" with Linden. Maybe they'll request both boys over more often... (hint hint, if y'all are reading! haha)

I made Mike my traditional handmade card for occasions like this. This year I opted to create a double decker bus and wrote lyrics to "There's a light that never goes out" by The Smiths. It's one of our favorite songs! I also got him a big bottle of whiskey and his favorite City and Colour album on vinyl. He treated me to roses, a delicious candle, some bulldog salt and pepper shakers and a new coffee mug. Perfect! Toby brought me home a chocolate rose that he won at his school's Cake Walk on Friday, too. The boys got a few little treats from us and from my parents. And lots and lots of kisses! 

Overall I give the day "two very enthusiastic thumbs up!" (Name that quote!) I'm so glad I was able to spend my favorite holiday with my favorite guy. What did you get into?! xo

FroYo Dates are the Best Dates

Froyo dates with my mister are some of the very best dates of all! xo
(I actually don't really like froyo... but the sorbet is deelish! and I may fill mine with gummy bears like I'm 5 years old, but that's okay!)

A Date Day and Thrifting!

Date days are my favorite! Sweet treats like froyo and sortbet. Hours of sifting through thrifted finds. and lovely company to spend it with!
