I think there are few things more meaningful than the relationship between a kid and his pet. To this day I still consider my Bichon Frise, Bert, to be one of my very best friends. We had him for over 13 years and he finally passed away (in my arms. wahhh!) when I was 16. We'd snuggle up together at night (he hogged the pillow), and be attached at the hip during the day. I owe so much to that relationship with Bert. I can even remember the very day we "got" him. (He was a rescue who had been thrown from the window of a truck). Seriously, I loved that dog more than life itself. I think that's one reason I am so so happy Toby has the relationship he does with our dogs. Especially Pipkin. I love having these photos from him when he was only 3 years old.
Georgia has taken to Linden like her own. If he cries, she runs to him. If he's laying/playing in the floor, she's right beside him. The other day she laid right up next to him so that he could pet her while they were on the blanket together. It's my sincerest hope that they grow closer and closer as they both age.
There's nothing like growing up with a special animal in your life, I'm sure of it. Seeing the way the boys interact with ours just makes my heart sing. I can't get enough of it! xo
this is so heartwarming! you can tell how gentle he treats the dogs.. very important lesson learnt already!
ReplyDeletei never post I'm just a lurker. BUT that second picture!!!! gah!
ReplyDeleteMy childhood babysitters were my two dogs! We grew up on a farm and were left to our own devices pretty early on (plus we had no TV) so we were always outside. We had an Akita named Cindy and a German Shepard named Skeeter. I think they spent their whole lives herding us around! We had to walk down the road to catch the bus every morning and they would bring us there and walk themselves home after we were picked up. They would head down to sit at the same spot everyday to meet us and walk us back home. I wouldn't change it for the world! They were our first friends and our best friends! Utterly devoted to sticking with us no matter where we went. There is nothing more special than the relationship between a kid and their dog. Nothing!
ReplyDeleteIt's totally okay that this got me a litter teary-eyed right? It's totally awesome to see you exposing your boys to the responsibility of having a pet and the gift of love and pure loyalty that you get in return. gah! I wish I wasn't at work so I could wrap my arms around my boxer/beast!
ReplyDeleteSO incredibly cute. Obsessed with this post. So glad you took those pictures of them together. =-)

So sweet. I love the one where they're holding hands. That Toby boy is something else, you can see his sweet soul in his face. I still miss my Scotty dog, Bognor, every day. True unconditional love.
ReplyDeleteI was maybe 15 when we finally got a dog I think - and he's been my most favourite buddy ever since! He's actually sleeping against my leg as I type this ;)
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are so sweet, I'm sure your boys will be so happy to have these photos down the road too!!

Ahhh Kaelah this post is just too cute. I always wanted a dog growing up but we weren't home enough so never got one. I know for certain that when I eventually have kids that there will be dogs around to be their best buddies. The bond between your dogs and boys is just adorable. xx
ReplyDeleteI have a thing with kids and pets. I seriously can't get enough of it!
ReplyDeleteSuper random but I just noticed it... In your "thanks so much for taking the time to visit and read The Clueless Girl's Guide..." Girl has a capitol I (GIrl's). Sorry but I'm a grammar Nazi and it just stuck out to me so I thought I would pass it along : )
This is so sweet! I've been following you for awhile and remember when you just had Georgia. It's heartwarming to see how your lil family has grown over the years and how your boys love the pups just as much as you do.
ReplyDeleteOh my stars. Those photos. Night-makingly beautiful. (My Dude and his dog are not quite at that level. He's a bit rough around the edges and she's a bit of a basket case. They do play really well together, though. I'm hoping for gentle cuddles someday!)
ReplyDeleteSo precious. This is too much for a heart to take! I pray I'd be able to get a dog one day - My Mom simply wont have one - and raise My kids this way... It is too much! REALLY!!!!
