Michaels Makers Autumn Home Decor DIY
Happy September! Are you ready for ALL THE PUMPKIN things?! (Truth be told: I don't even like pumpkin anything. Well, flavor wise. But DIY? Totally!) When we bought our new couch we knew we wanted to add a thin shelf behind the seating area so we could put picture frames, drinks, etc. This would help eliminate the need for side tables, and it had the added benefit of being out of Linden's reach (!!!). Since we built it in June, we've decorated it a few different ways. We don't have a fireplace so decorating a mantle for the holidays and changing seasons just isn't feasible. But now that we have our little shelf in the back, we can change out the decorations and mood with ease! I decided to dress it up for Autumn as it starts to make its way into Tennessee.

The craft pumpkins are the major player in the little set up. I wanted to decorate them in a fun way, but I didn't want them to be too Halloween-y, you know? I needed something to hold us over until October haha Drilled and monogramed pumpkins seemed like just the ticket! I cut out a script F for "Flynn" (obviously) and then I drilled alternating sized holes into the smaller pumpkin. I added some LED flameless tea candles on the inside and they've been chugging along for the past several days. I just used a utility knife to cut the larger one. Seriously, such a breeze. I wasn't totally sold on it at first, but Mike and Whitney both assured me they loved the little bit of whimsy they brought into the room. I like that the glow they emit isn't overpowering. If you scroll down you can see a photo of them taken in the dark. It's a fun little pop of orange back there!

For the rest of the display I used some Ashland (faux) flowers and some super spongey moss. Michaels had a bunch of their little decor bits and bobs on sale when I was up there so I snagged the cute carrot "can" vase (it's ceramic) and sprinkled around some mini pumpkins and pinecones, too. I brought out my favorite Candelles candle (Favorite Sweater) and decorated with my craspedia in my St-Germain bottle, too. It's nothing overly fancy, but I feel like it really fits the mood and style of our home. I love how it all came together.

If you're looking to kick off Fall with some fun new home decor, swing by Michaels and pick up a craft pumpkin or two! You can whip up a fun DIY centerpiece or even a gift. They even have some half-pumpkins so you can use them as wall art or for your front door. And of course if you're still in the mood to be inspired, check out the other 49 (!!!) Michaels Makers below. I'm most excited about that part myself! "Oooh! How did YOU DIY a pumpkin?!" haha!

Happy (almost) Fall, y'all!

  1. This looks so cool! Australians totally do not change their decor to match the seasons, I kinda wish we did, but then at the same time that's a lot of effort.
