Twenty-eight was quite a ride. As Rupi Kaur says "It has been the year of hurting so bad but living so good." Nothing else could quite describe 28. I'm excited to see where 29 takes me. And this totally makes me want to resurrect my old "26 before 27" style yearly bucket lists. I'm not sure I could come up with 29 things to do before I'm 30 though... Wanna throw some suggestions my way?

// Linden Turned TWO (!!) in Florida

And just like that I have a TWO YEAR OLD! Two! I feel like that spunky little mullet-headed boy was just born yesterday. We celebrated with a whole lot of sand and salt water, then feasted on donuts from City Donut in Orange Beach. It was low key and perfect! I swear that baby bear of mine has grown so much in the past few months! He's officially off of the paci (!!!), he can count to 10 on his own, and every day he surprises me with more complex sentences or words. (Yesterday he said "I promise" when I asked him if that was a deal! Haha) His tantrums are EPIC, but luckily few and far between. His manners are incredibly adorable and his face brings me SO much joy.

Currently he stands 36 inches tall and he weighs 32 pounds! He's a chunky little bear.

PS; Did you like the little diaper I painted on Linden in one of the above photos? Ha! He was in his birthday suit, naturally (look how empty the beach was!), but we're trying to keep it PG over here!

And here I am, another year older! Honestly, if you had asked me how old I was in the past couple of months, I most likely told you 28. There for a little while I really thought I was 28... I'm telling you, 27 is kind of a strange age. Maybe that's just me. Here we go! Creepin' toward the end of my twenties! Let's see what this year has in store for me.

Here are a few (ha) photos from Linden's first birthday celebration a couple of weeks ago! We had a Farmers Market theme and we decked the place out in red and white gingham. It was pretty laid back and low-key with just some friends and family in attendance. We didn't want to get too crazy with it, but felt like his first birthday should be something to truly celebrate.

We had a delicious "picnic" style lunch with burgers, hot dogs, fruit baskets, kettle chips and more. And we had a little fabric backdrop for the photobooth. We took photos of all of the attendants and had them leave Linden a note. We're going to scan them in and create a little "First Birthday" memory book for him with pictures on one side and notes on the other. We also had a "Mabelcloth" at his party for his guests to sign! It's such a fun idea and can be used for 10 years, so we're going to keep it going year after year! I'm a sucker for keepsakes like that so I love that we'll be able to give that to him one day.

Instead of a traditional smash cake, Linden has a "smash pie." It was blueberry - his favorite! He loved it! Totally almost passed out in it though haha He had to retire from his party early because he was so zonked. So glad my little Duder McScooter had a great birthday! His second one will be here before we know it.

// Here's To Being 27!

I say the very same thing every year - it's feels weird to wake up one year older. Twenty six was a fun one. Now I'm ready to tackle twenty seven. Here's to hoping it's my best year yet! I also need to come up with my 27 Before 28 list, and see what I skipped out on my 26 Before 27 one!

27 doesn't feel "old" but holy grey hairs, batman!

Also, can you believe this is the sixth year I've kept up with my urban typography birthday tradition?! I'm fickle so that's pretty amazing to me. Here's 22232425, and 26! Hopefully this little blog will be around to see 28, too. (I think I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on my new blog look - so we'll see). xo

// KB's Birthday Wishlist

My 27th birthday is on Monday (!!!) so I thought it'd be fun to put together a little wishlist of goodies I totally wouldn't hate receiving haha! It'll be a low key day around here since Mike has school and Toby will be on spring break. It'll be me and the kiddos for most of the day. 27 seems like such a strange age, but I think I say that every year. But seriously... 27. Holy crap.

Anyway, here's my current wishlist:

Seinfeld series box set - because Seinfeld! // Seinfeld trivia book - yes! (I really love Seinfeld) // Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay // An embroidery machine - because I don't already own too many sewing related gadgets (that I have no idea how to use...) // A week in Akumal, Mexico - I can't convince Mike it'd be super fun to take the kids, so I guess I'm wishing for a set of grandparents to offer to keep them for that long haha! // A new pair of Sanuk yoga mat flip flops - Mike got me a pair a few years ago and I went and lost one since last Summer! They're the best! (Size 9) // A huge bag of Runts - because that's what I fill our gumball machine with // An ULTA gift card - because makeup!

What would be on your wishlist? (And do you wanna watch our kids for a week?! Ha kidding! Sort of...)

// Cinco de Mike-o Celebrations

Cinco de Mayo is a fun day in the Flynn house... because it's Mr. Flynn's birthday! Yesterday my sweet husband turned the big 2-5! He celebrated by cramming for a test, working out 148 math problems, and kicking butt on a medical abbreviation test. I didn't want his day to be shrouded by school work so I did early-pickup for Toby at pre-K and then we each made him a homemade birthday card. (Handmade cards are probably my absolute favorite family tradition and I totally want to make a little Blurb book or something of all of them one day!) I snagged a cake from the supermarket and I decorated it at home (hey, there are only so many hours in the day!), and I put together a little Cinco inspired lunch on the deck for when Mike got home. We had cake, lemonade, homemade black bean and corn salsa, tortilla chips, beer (for M, obviously), and gifts. For Mike's gift I bought him every pack of blank index cards available at the store haha! It was the perfect present because duh, nursing school! He's only been in school for 3 days and we've already made over 60 flashcards... it's intense! After a delicious little meal he retreated to the house to do his homework and then I helped him study while we were at Toby's baseball practice. Whew, it was a jam packed day honestly, but I loved every minute of it.

a monday morning spent alone (!!!) buying flowers for the garden

Overall I'd say it was a pretty swell day! I really try to make an effort when it comes to birthdays and the people that I love because I want them to know just how much I care. I had so much fun putting together this little impromptu family feast. It wasn't over the top or lavish in any way, but it was perfect for the three of us. And it doesn't hurt that the supermarket cake was totally delicious haha!

Happy birthday, Mr. Flynn. You are the cat's pajamas.
