// Cocktail Hour: Christmas Cookie

Kaelah Bee Christmas Cocktail for LuLu*s - KaelahBee.com
Another holiday drink for you to whip up this season! I've been doing a lot of cocktail recipes for LuLu*s over the past few months and it's been such a treat to share these creations with others. If you can overlook the fact that my last few drinks look a lot alike, you'll be amazed at the variety of tastes and flavors they entail! For instance this drink is comprised of ice cream, alcohol, and a sprinkle of hard candy! (If peppermint isn't your thing, you're in luck! It's so easy to substitute in butterscotch hard candies and schnapps.) Pop over to the LuLu*s blog to get the full run down and the recipe! Mike was a huge fan of this one (but he always is... haha)

Let me know if you end up making it yourself! Enjoy!

// Pumpkin Spice Hot Toddy Cocktail (+ Mocktail!)

Pumpkin Spice Hot Toddy - KaelahBee.com
Okay, real talk time! I've never been into pumpkin flavored anything. Truth be told, the thought of eating pumpkin and pumpkin flavored stuff sort of grosses me out. I don't get hyped up about September 1st, and the only PSL I ever buy is for Mike... but I made a pumpkin spice hot toddy for the Autumn season and maybe, just maybe, I can understand why people get so worked up about it.

Don't get me wrong... I probably won't be chowing down on pumpkin pie anytime soon, and I won't be ordering a PSL for myself (Sorry, Caramel Apple Spice has my Autumn-loving heart!), but I can certainly get down with some pumpkin spice syrup and some whiskey! If that sounds like your jam, you'll be into this drink, I promise!

I created this drink for LuLu*s (remember my Hot Summer cocktails for them a few months ago?) and just like the last time, there's an alcohol version and a mocktail version. That way everyone gets to join in on the splendor that is a warm, creamy Hot Toddy!

Pop on over to the LuLu*s blog to get the full recipe run down! Let me know if you think you'll be trying it soon! It makes me want to host an Autumn get-together for sure. Not to mention create more season-appropriate cocktails! It's kind of fun when that's part of your "job," ya know? Happy Friday!

The fifth and final installation of the LCH x LuLu*s LBD challenge! I honestly wasn't sure that I was going to like this pairing, because it's a bit hard for me to imagine how garments will lay on my oddly-proportioned self. BUT with that being said, this ended up being a top contender. I don't wear a lot of knit sweaters or oversized items, but I do love pairing black and brown. This outfit ended up being a great recipe for all of those things. I wore this out and about yesterday (I got dressed twice this week!) to pick up the junk we ripped out of the new house and to haul it off. Yes, I was carting rolls of carpet and flooring in this... a bit odd but you do what you gotta do.

This little area/backdrop is one of the sheds in our new backyard. Can I admit something that will make me sound a bit foolish? When we first looked at the house I immediately got excited about the 2 rustic sheds in the back because they'd make great outfit photo backdrops... ha. Yeahhh. Don't judge me. Rustic is the perfect way to describe our new surroundings, that's for sure.

I've been wearing my Tumbleweeds sunglasses non-stop these past few weeks. They're the perfect shade of dark to keep my eyes comfortable during the day. They're having an Instagram flash sale on Monday, too! Maybe I can get my hands on one of those beautiful rounded pairs. Swoon! You can't see it all that well in the photos (whoops!) but I'm also wearing a little instagram brooch. Mustard hints for winter, a favorite!

This weekend we're headed back up to our house in Nashville to try and sort through what's left. A lot of stuff will get tossed, donated, and possibly sold off. We're selling off our huge sectional and handmade window-coffee table on Craigslist, so if you're on the hunt, let me know! We've tossed around the idea of having a garage sale either the first or second weekend of February (probably the 2nd?) but if that pans out I'll gladly share the info here. We won't be living there anymore so sharing the address will be less sketchy haha

One Dress / Five Ways - FOUR

Ugh, y'all! This is the first time I've worn "real" clothes in SIX WEEKS! Aside from a short stint in a hot dog dress for Lauren's slumber party, I've lived in sweats and yoga pants as we've been working non stop on the new house. And remember when I scratched my cornea a week before Christmas? Yeah, well that turned into a corneal ulcer and I think I'm dying. I haven't worn contacts or mascara in six weeks either. My eye is super sensitive to bright light (hence my weird/squinty faces in this, sorry!), I have to wear sunglasses 90% of the day/night, and I have to sleep with a cold compress on my eye in order to offset the pain. Heaven help me feel better soon. Geebus! I can't drive, I can hardly look at my computer, and I can't watch tv at night haha I'm trying to make light of the situation but I'm realllllly hoping for a healing miracle soon. Phew! Is that enough whining for one blog post? No? haha

So this post... um. Remember back like last year (okay, just last month) when I was doing my LuLu*s dress challenge? Yeahhhhh. So after my eye incident I couldn't do much of anything so I'm finally picking it back up. Just this one and one final post to do! This one was supposed to be my "classy lady" look, but I think my disheveled hair might have thrown it off a bit. It's basically just black on black on black on black haha! But I felt so nice being dressed up for a change. I'd totally wear it out for drinks or a date night. Velvet shoes, a structured blazer and a fun textured dress. I added some bright lipstick just to play it up a smidge. It's the Daphne color from Radiant. Super creamy and such a punch of color. I didn't think I liked it when I first opened the tube, but I love the color once it's applied. (btw, Radiant gives 20% of their profits to help fight human trafficking!)

Speaking of not getting dressed for over a month... Have you ever gone through a phase where maybe you were sick for an extended time or maybe you were pregnant/just had a baby and all you could wear were sweats/yoga pants/pjs? Then how strange life feels once you put on real clothes? Seriously, after six weeks, I almost couldn't care less about wearing actual clothes or doing anything with my hear aside from tossing it up in a very shameful topknot. Of course I felt immensely better once I did get dressed, but let's be frank -- these clothes will come off as soon as we run our necessary errands and I'll be back in those yoga pants, breaking a sweat over our renovations. At least they're coming along!

I really can't wait for everything to be done in our house so we can be 100% moved in and settled, and then back at our normal daily routine. Maybe I'll even be able to keep up with my email, too! haha Happy Tuesday, folks!

One Dress / Five Ways - THREE

Here's styling #3 in the LuLu's x LCH dress challenge. I wanted to create an outfit that I could wear to a Sunday Brunch that my friend Merissa was hosting. Sadly Mike and I stayed up way too late on Saturday and slept right through it Sunday. We were Toby-less (so we could finish his Christmas shopping) and we took advantage of those morning hours. I was super bummed to miss the Christmas brunch but man oh man, sleeping in is niiiiiice! Anyway, we woke up and decided we'd go for a husband and wife breakfast date. While getting ready to walk out the door we got a phone call saying we could start renovating the house we're moving into immediately, as opposed to mid-January. This was exciting news because we've been doing nothing but house planning and daydreaming since making the somewhat-almost-a-little-bit tough decision to move out of the city. It's just not doing it for us and honestly, after the house directly behind us had a big shooting in the middle of the day (while we were outside), I just can't find it in myself to raise Toby here. Obviously that kind of stuff can happen anywhere (as recent events show, even in small towns), but something doesn't sit well with my heart and I know it makes our families nervous.

Anyway, we drove down yesterday to check everything out and make a mental note of everything we need to go buy, order and do. I often feel like the flightiest person when it comes to settling down. It's so hard! But I think it's just because we haven't found "home" yet. We're still really young so we can do that I guess, but I keep feeling like I need to "Act 24! Grow up! Settle down!". Then I realize how silly that is.. I mean, I'm already married, but that doesn't mean I need to chain myself to one place. We're adventuring.

For this styling I wanted to make a LBD "Sunday morning appropriate". I could've actually done a better job by brightening up the tights but I didn't have any coordinating ones on hand. I've yet to venture into the world of pastel tights (tree trunk thighs, hello!) but you only live once right?! (Yes, I realize how ridiculous it is that I'm saying pastel tights are ~so risky haha) This cardigan was picked up at Marshall's a couple of weeks ago and oh my stars! It is my most favorite cardigan I own now. You can't tell but the back is lace and see through (I always forget to photograph that stuff!) but the fabric/fit is beyond dreamy. It's so soft, too! I want to go back and buy 3 or 4 just to save them for when I inevitably wear this one out. I got it in ivory also. I know "white after labor day" is like a big no-no with clothing and accessories but let's be frank, who listens to that? I pulled out this purse from my NYC-dwellin' days and layered up two hair accessories (wedding hairpiece!) to finish it off. Overall I'm happy with it and I felt fancy as I paraded around town. A little old lady stopped me in Panera and told me I was just "darling" and she loved "the little flower" in my hair. D'awwwww.

Today we're shipping out a couple of sign + Kaelah's Closet orders, then packing up and heading down to stock up on primer and paint, and get busy at the new house! We'll also be deciding if we're going to make the decision to go full force into our ridiculous but awesome "dream" kitchen. It'll take 6 weeks to order exactly what it is we would need so we've gotta decide soon! We have to be completely out of Nashville in ~7 weeks, so we've got time. But I'm so excited! The next few weeks will be crazy busy with manual labor and furniture shopping (as well as selling! Anyone on the hunt for a huge sectional sofa in Nashville?!), but it'll be fun. I like that we get to do this as a family. So rewarding :)

Hope your work week is starting off well! Can you believe we're just 8 days out from Christmas?! Ahh! Pinch me!

One Dress / Five Ways - TWO

Here's the second styling of my LuLu*s Flapper Keeper dress! This one is probably my favorite of the photographed ones so far. Mike came up with the name the other day while I was wearing it. Said it looked like I was "going out to a punk show" (sorry if that offends any punk fans!) I'm currently a huge fan of "Barbie" pink makeup/lipstick, so matching my nails and letting the interior of my clutch peek out was the perfect mix. I've been feeling kind of bored with my hair lately so I just decided to sweep it over in a really really messy low ponytail for this number. I also opted to double up on gold chain sweater clips and skip both the necklace and belt. I've been putting these sweater clips on everything together. I'm a little bit obsessed with stacking them. Now we get to the shoes... Oh the shoes! I was a bit wary that I'd be able to walk in them, but it's surprisingly easy... you know, until you get onto cobblestone. I probably came *this* close to busting my face in front of most of East Nashville a half dozen times. But level, regular ground is a totally different song and dance. I'm loving the gold dangling chains!

Yesterday I spent the day Christmas shopping with my friend Maya. We headed to Opry Mills for a bit (and managed to shop more for us than anyone else...) and then popped over to Mt. Juliet on a "specific book at the bookstore" run. Happy to report she put a significant dent in her shopping list and I completely finished my list for Mike! I even wrapped them all last night! Trying to put on my big girl britches and wrap like an adult. Normally I'm so so bad at it. Tonight Mike and I are going out to finish Toby's shopping while he's whisked off to enjoy some Toby/Pawpaw time. We knew we wanted to shop together but couldn't pull it off with that inquisitive little guy around. He's pretty darn smart.

I'm getting so excited about Christmas, but it feels so strange for it to only be 11 days away! Like, I'm not ready for it to come and go yet. I feel like I haven't allowed myself to get in the Christmas spirit by making our house smell like cinnamon, watching Christmas movies, or being able to go to any holiday parties. In the blink of an eye Christmas will be gone and New Years will be behind us. Ahh! So much to mentally prepare for in 2013!
Speaking of mental preparation and 2013, I get so excited about new goals. I'm not really one for "resolutions" (I save most of those for my birthday list) but I like to set a "theme" for the year. 2012's was "Organization" and I'd like to say I was somewhat successful. I've definitely been better about it the last quarter of the year but I know I'll take that with me into 2013. I've yet to decide exactly what 2013's theme will be but I have a few ideas. We'll see!

Today I'll be organizing my office (ha!) and cleaning out my car because it's long overdue. Let's hope it's not super super cold outside. Yowza!

One Dress / Five Ways - ONE

Over the next week or two I'll be sharing five different ways to style up this super cute Flapper Keeper dress from LuLu*s! Everything from classy/evening to super casual or Sunday brunch appropriate. Well, appropriate in KB's world... This first look is "Nice, but not too nice..." if you know what I mean? I think this would be appropriate for a daytime party when you want to keep it a little flashy, but not try too hard. To be honest, I just like to throw some "loud" accessories on any and every outfit. I dressed up the outfit with a super nice lace shrug, but kept it KB-style with some disheveled hair and a oversized bow headband. Maybe you have an office holiday party that fall during the daylight hours or something (it's an office party every day in my workspace... oldschool Destiny's Child knows what I mean.)

I've been experimenting more with my makeup routine and trying to force myself out of my norm. This look, however, is about as normal as it gets for me. Peachy pink cheeks (NARS Orgasm blush) and matching lips (CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain in "Saucy Plum" with ELF "Peace" Shimmer Gloss on top). For a few of the other looks I went a bit louder with the makeup... let's just hope I don't look like a doof!

A quick word on this dress: the back has a super cute cut-out that is totally drool worthy! It's entirely too cold to go without any sort of sweater right now, but you can peep what I mean here

Check back in a few days for another installation of One Dress // Five Ways! The next one is probably my favorite of the ones I've shot so far. It feels very "me"! Hope you have a rad Wednesday!

Lavender + Honey

Well, hello Autumn. Finally in full force, showing the leaves and colors in all their glory. It seems the leaves changed a whole lot quicker this year. I tend to find myself disappointed in them not turning until mid-November, but they didn't let me down this time around. We decided to poke around Shelby Park before taking Toby to the playground. These were shot on Wednesday after a productive and enjoyable day. I managed to start, design, code and install an entire blog layout in the morning, then I took some time to myself to get a little "dolled up". ("Dolled up" in Kaelah-speak just means I curled my hair haha!) I drove over to Maya's house and we decided margaritas were a must. We found a cozy table on the front porch of El Mariachi and we margarita'd it up. Seriously y'all, if you're in Nashville, go have a strawberry margarita there. I've never had one better! We caught up on all the fun life drama since I hadn't hung out with her since the wedding week. It was good fun. After a few hours there I headed home to run errands with the fellas and we moseyed on over to Shelby Park (as seen here). All in all? Lovely day!

Wednesday felt like it needed something extra, so I opted for heels. Err, wedges. Whatever they are. I find myself more comfortable with "louder" shoes in the Autumn and Winter, so don't be surprised if I dust off my ugly shoe collection. (Obvz by loud I mean anything that isn't a flat ha) I know this outfit isn't anything revolutionary, and it's pretty standard for me, but seriously: I love it. The mustard, the green, the purple. I love it. This jacket and this cardigan are officially two of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. That lace collar, c'mon! It felt nice to feel good, ya know?

This bag is one that I've had for a while now. I picked it up on Edition01 a while back. I like it because it's HUGE and sturdy, and also because it's beautifully made. It's a Flea Bag and it's a limited run of only 155. I ended up taking it to Mexico with me and realizing that was such a dumb move because I don't want it to ever get dirty ha. I'm lucky it's not already trashed, but I'm trying to keep it nice. Just looking at these photos makes me hear the satisfying crunch of the leaves underfoot. I need to make it a priority to get the boys together so we can all go shoot some Autumn photos. Having pictures of Toby rolling in the leaves is a must!

Today we're packing up Honeybean and towing her down to Chattanooga! We'll be set up at Chatty Crafty tomorrow from 10am til 6pm so we'd love it if you came out to support us! You know, provided you live in/around Chattanooga! haha We've never done the CC event but we're crossing our fingers it's a good one. Now that the wedding dust has finally settled we can devote more time to our true love: that sweet little camper. Sunday Toby will be going to visit his grandparents so I'm hoping Mike and I can sneak in a little movie date. It's been SO LONG since Mike and I went on a "date" together. (You know, excluding those 9 days we just spent in Mexico together haha!) But we realllly want to see Pitch Perfect! Have any of you seen it yet?! I LOVE Rebel Wilson, so I've been dying to go! Let's hope it works out so we can catch a matinee since we'll only have a few hours! Cheaper movie ticket = extra Raisinets for me, yes?! Happy (almost) weekend! How are you spending it?!
