This outfit is so simple: a dress and a pair of shoes. No necklace, no bracelet, no purse. Nothing stuffy. Just a dress and a pair of wedges. Sometimes I think outfits like this aren't even worth documenting, but the truth is this is how I dress 90% of the time. (And maybe that means I shouldn't have a style blog?! haha) When a dress feels this good, there's no need to pile it up with a bunch of stuff. I saw this little number in the window of a local mom and pop shop in town a few weeks back and I instantly wanted it. The colors and the print are so so great. Mike and I popped by one day when the shop was open and we lucked out on a 25% off sale. When I say "mom and pop" shop I literally mean a mom and pop shop. This little old man runs it and it's just so old timey. Barely any light leaks back into it and everything looks like it was made in 1962. (To be honest, some of the stuff could be there from 1962... it wouldn't surprise me!) But he was so friendly and the clothes were so pretty. They had western shirts for guys out the wazoo! Pearl snaps and all! I made Mike promise he'd head back with me once the weather breaks and we'd pick him out some snazzy western shirts haha
The dress itself isn't the most flattering thing (I should've tried it on. This one seems to run about two sizes big) but The silhouette makes it worth it. I really really love the olive and butter/squash coloring of the pattern, too. Then there's the shoes... Ahh... the shoes. I might as well just super glue these to my feet because I'd gladly throw out every pair of shoes in my closet just to keep my MIA Jukebox wedges. It's sad how often I Google to see if there are any other color options out there haha I have them in brown, black and red... and I wore every single pair last week. I don't think a more perfect shoe could ever exist!
Friday I woke up to an email blast from Old Navy saying they were having a massive back to school/$5 sale (Psst... it's still going on, too!). I jumped on the website as fast as I possibly could and started loading my basket up with stuff for Toby. Toby pretty much lives in Old Navy tees and skinny jeans (which were $10!) so it was a pleasant surprise. The tees ended up only being $2.06 when you bought more than one (!!!) so he has a whole new wardrobe on its way! My uncle recently got custody of my little cousins and they really haven't ever had anything for themselves so my nana came by the house to help me shop for new school clothes for them, too. All three kids got full wardrobes to take them well into winter and beyond for under $350. I think our order ended up having 52 items. It was insane! So many jeans and shirts and sweaters. Then on Saturday morning I loaded up in the car with both my mom and nana to head to Franklin to pick up a few last minute supplies for them. We originally intended on doing the clothes shopping then but thanks to the massive sale online we didn't even have to bother with the crowds. We picked up a few things for Kaylie (my little cousin) and her new room. My uncle has been working hard to redo a room just for her since she's really never really had her own room before. Mike helped him paint the room pink and my mom and I picked up a few things to outfit it. She came home to it last night and had no idea that all of that had been done for her. It was so so heartwarming! For once she has her own space and something that she can really value and grow in and that just makes me all teary eyed to think of, ya know? I still want to whip up a few pieces for the wall and Mike might build some shelves, too. I also want to make her some jewelry and hair accessories since she's all about that now. She's starting sixth grade on Tuesday and I want her to feel confident and excited about going to school.
We're planning on surprising her with a girls day out next weekend, too. We're going to take her to Nashville and just show her a fun time. She totally deserves it and I know it'll just make her world. Having family that truly cares for each other is the biggest blessing in life.
Yesterday I caught up on sign orders and watched entirely too much Seinfeld. Mike helped my stepdad lay the foundation for this giant 2-story shed they're building and I had the whole house to myself. I eagerly awaited the premier of Shark Week and then I crashed... hard! I was eager for today but also really, really nervous.
Today we're heading over to Toby's school to meet his Pre-K teacher! We'll get to see his classroom and all that jazz. He's totally pumped and I'm equal parts anxious and terrified. It seems so crazy that he's starting pre-k... he's just a baby! Except not. Seeing his grow up is so weird haha We don't even know when his first day will be exactly but every single morning he wakes up and asks "Is this the day I go to school, mom?" Ahh, his eagerness to learn! I know it won't always be that way so I should just enjoy it while it lasts haha I remember the feeling...
Happy Monday!

You look so gorgeous, I love the print on that dress! X
ReplyDeleteI like the dress and shoes only idea. I really do think that's how most people put outfits together (at least I do with some earrings!) Simple and classic without all the bulk! And there is no such thing as too much Seinfeld... just sayin'.
ReplyDeletetotally! I feel like 90% of my outfits are sans accessories. Sometimes I have to "remind" myself to sort of jazz it up a bit. I'm okay with minimalistic looks haha
Deletegorgeous print on that dress!

I'm typically a 10/12 in dresses (12 online so I can play it safe usually) and this dress is a 10. It's baggy under the arms, but I managed to pin it back when I wore it so it wasn't too bad actually! It's such a great dress :D
DeleteI think that dress looks just lovely on you! Those shoes look perfect too, I should snag me a pair. I'm trying to learn to wear heels more often :)

Pretty! The print on your dress looks like a lovely vintage watercolor painting. The colors are gorgeous and not something I see all the time. The story about your cousin is so sweet! She is so lucky to have a great family who is willing to pitch in to care for her. Enjoy your girls day out!
