Things I Love Thursday

After a terribly-horrible-awful-crappy Wednesday, I'm ready for Thursday! We didn't get to celebrate our anniversary like we had planned, but we're saving the date festivities for next week (hopefully!). We've got a sick toddler and I'm 99% sure he's passing it onto me, too. Trying to get this little man well before his birthday party this weekend! If you're expecting an email from me, it's coming! I'll also be packing up and shipping the first round of Kaelah's Closet orders today and tomorrow! Get 'em while you can :) Here's my happy list for the week!

Jada Pinkett-Smith is aware of the critics that frown up their noses at the way she raises her daughter, Willow. Willow cuts, dyes and styles her hair as she pleases, a fact that bothers many who feel girls shouldn’t have that much control over their appearance at such a young age.
Jada decided to address the criticism in a Facebook post:
“A letter to a friend…This subject is old but I have never answered it in its entirety. And even with this post it will remain incomplete. The question why I would LET Willow cut her hair. First the LET must be challenged. This is a world where women, girls are constantly reminded that they don’t belong to themselves; that their bodies are not their own, nor their power or self determination. I made a promise to endow my little girl with the power to always know that her body, spirit and her mind are HER domain. Willow cut her hair because her beauty, her value, her worth is not measured by the length of her hair. It’s also a statement that claims that even little girls have the RIGHT to own themselves and should not be a slave to even their mother’s deepest insecurities, hopes and desires. Even little girls should not be a slave to the preconceived ideas of what a culture believes a little girl should be.”

What are you loving this week?

  1. I love your "Things I Love Thursday" posts, they are always so inspiring :) I find so many great things through the links you share so thank you!

    Katie x

  2. Thanks SO much for sharing!!! I now must see glowworms, & share that message from Jada to everyone. I hope things perk up for you! Feel better, dear. ♥

  3. That glow worm cave is so cool. I didn't even know they wee real(not something you hear an awful lot about in the uk) x

  4. As always, adore your links!! Thanks for making my lunch hour entertaining~*

  5. The Smiths are seriously the coolest parents. When Willow first cut her hair off, Will wrote a statement about how he couldn't tell her what to do with her hair or any other part of her body because it would set a bad example for her by thinking that other men in the future could tell her what she could and couldn't do with her body. It was so amazing!

    1. Yes! I remember that! I had that on a previous TiLT post at some time. I just think they are so friggin cool. And Willow, too! Love that she does her own thing.

  6. Will Smith also mentioned this in an interview and it was amazing. He said as a man, if he tells her what to do with her body, he'll be replaced with another man when she's older. Brilliant parenting x

  7. I absolutely love the guy that recreates peoples profile pictures and then friend requests them! That is so genius!

Hope today is a far better day for you lady!

  8. I love, love Jada's quote. So much truth.

I hope you all feel better soon!

    What Lola Wants

  9. Great links as usual! I seriously just spent an hour study break clicking on EVERYTHING!:-) And can we talk about how awesome Jux is for a minute? It's so sleek and artsy looking, and not one advertisement in site. I absolutely love it, thanks for the recommendation!

  10. This TiLT was awesome :) I looovveee the buffalo picture & that first quote. And how awesome is Jada Smith?

  11. I've been black water rafting (floating through the caves river on a tyre!) at Waitomo Caves and it was the prettiest cave I've ever been to!

  12. Thanks so much for the sweet shout out! And I LOVE that first quote. "Embarrassing bravery" so good!

  13. I always love your "Things I Love Thursday" posts, and this one in particular made me think because of the buffalo photograph. Honestly, my first opinion on the shot was "um, it's not that great." And then I realized, "well, just because you grew up seeing this scene all your life (I live right by Yellowstone National Park and Shoshone National Forest where Buffalo regularly get onto the road. In fact, this happened when we cut down our tree last weekend), doesn't mean that it is not special. It IS; you are just growing immune to the beauty around you. Wake up and enjoy it." It is always funny to get a jolt of realization that you live somewhere that is, in some way, exotic to others. So, thank you for that!

Also, for anybody who likes that shot- come to Yellowstone and enjoy the gorgeous wildlife and the huge buffalo on the roads and in the mountain valleys.

  14. I love that Willow is able to do whatever she wants with her hair. Girl power! I'm also loving those bulldog mugs and that you shard some Jux users. I'm always interested in seeing new users on that site! Great Things I Love Thursday, as always! I hope you and Toby start to feel better soon too.

  15. These posts always make me so happy. Gorgeous work :)x

  16. Loved this TILT, as always Dear Lady! So sorry to hear your Wednesday was awful!! And I really hope you don't get little T's lurgys too, poor little lad. Good luck for the party on the weekend, I bet it will be adorable!
I've added glow-orm caves to our list of adventures now, and I am totally with you on the Smith's parenting skills - such well thoughtout parenting. Just genius really!
Looking forward to wearing my beautiful KC dress! Yay!! So happy I won that pretty.
Hugest of Get Well hugs to you and Toby!

  17. The gloworm cave is AMAZING! I've never seen anything like it. I love these type of posts.

I think The Smith's are inspirational parents. I think their attitude to their kids' lives are refreshing and I bet allowing them to make their own choices now will help with their body confidence as they grow up.

  18. I just got goosebumps reading Jada's response :)

  19. That guy with the Facebook photos is HILARIOUS! I wish I knew his name so I could congratulate him, ha!!

HEY! Thanks for dropping by. xo KB
