Lately I've been paying much more mind to living with intention. I've noticed how uninspired and burnt out I get when I'm just forcing myself to work, work, work. Things get done, but not in a very efficient manner. Then I'm left feeling too worn out to play with Toby or enjoy my evening with Mike. I thought I'd whip up a little weekly intention list to help remind me of what's important in life. Sure, it's important to work hard, but it's also important that I trim out enough time to play Power Rangers with Toby or help him wash his hair. It seems silly to even think about that, but I think a lot of self employed/work at home types deal with this.
This week my list includes equal parts family, friends, business and self. I want my business ventures to succeed, but not at the cost of my family time or general enjoyment. Over the next 7 days I intend on fulfilling each and every one of these personal goals. They're pretty simple, honestly, but I'm hoping they'll make a world of difference.
This week I intend to:
- Send (at least) five pieces of snail mail. A postcard to my penpals, a short but sweet letter to a dear friend, and maybe a little note to my mailman just to let him know I appreciate him.
- Do something for myself every day. Whether it's lay in the hammock and read a book like yesterday, or pouring myself a glass of wine to enjoy in my bubble bath... a little goes a long way.
- Tackle something I've been putting off. Ugh, I guess that'll include a call to our bank to get all of our account information (interest rates, etc) in order to better manage our money.
- Try to not raise my voice. I'm a parent and a wife... and a human being. And sometimes I just lose my cool. Whether I'm cursing the entire shelf I just knocked over or shouting because Toby isn't minding the rules, I'd like to be a little more collected.
- Read Desiderata every day. I owe a lot of my mindset to this very poem. I've said it time and time again, and I'll say it a million more times during the life of this blog, I'm sure. I notice a huge shift in my attitude and my day when I read this in the morning.
- Do one thing to propel *each* business forward. Businesses can only survive if we nurture them. I intend to work on Him + Honey's new branding, establish new product sheets for Honeybean, work on the wireframes for the blog, organize all of my sign supplies, and compile an updated PDF portfolio of my design work.
- Plan (at least) one unplugged evening. My home life shouldn't suffer because I'm not the best at turning off work mode. Vow to spend more time playing with Toby while the weather is nice, and enjoying life off of the internet.
How about you? Any weekly intentions you'd like to share? xo
I have every intention of sleeping eventually. Our old cat's current mindset about our new cat is making that... difficult.
ReplyDeleteit's like having a new baby! ahh, good luck to you lady! sounds like the lil fluffball has been slow to acclimate. xo
DeleteGood list I should do one

Hi, thank you for your comments. You've been commenting frequently lately but unfortunately up until this time I've marked them all as "Spam" because they've been short (and often not even relevant) and always include a very prominent link to a giveaway on your blog. Please know that it's often viewed as rude to only comment for the sake of self promotion. I value each and every comment left on my blog, but I will not have my readers solicited in this manner. All future comments that link to a giveaway in this manner will be marked as spam. Thank you!
DeleteOOO This is beautiful! I think I'm going to come up with my own list of weekly intentions. What a lovely way to start a Monday.
ReplyDeletegood luck amelia! i'd love to see what you put on your list if you ever feel like sharing!
Deletethis is such a good idea! i looked up the poem and it kinda made my morning :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for weekly goals and good goals too.
ReplyDeleteOne simple intention, don't waste food, and buy only the necessary
ReplyDeletethis is such a good goal! we're notorious about that and it's such a waste of money! we've been doing a lot better but there's still room for improvement! good luck!
DeleteThese are great intentions for the week! I'm definitely trying to live intentionally this week. Sometimes when I get anxiety my imagination gets carried away, so I'm trying to keep that in check in turn any negative thoughts into positive ones.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your week!

These are all very good things to remember. I am trying to live this way too...though work doesn't always consume me (I could see how it would if it was my own though) I think we all need to remember to slow down and enjoy life. It goes by far too fast..
ReplyDeleteGreat intentions! I am the worst person at list making but not actually following through. My "must dos" for the day are usually not to be too negative/anxious and to try and be more disconnected in the evening, i.e put my phone down!!
ReplyDeleteUgh. I should probably start doing something like this, but there never seems to be enough time in the day (lord knows I try!) even if I make a list. Good luck with your snail mail endeavor, I wish more people would do that.
ReplyDeleteyou've inspired me to make one too :) btw, i love your blog, getting addicted haha.

This is such a good idea. I want to use your list as motivation to create my own!!
ReplyDeleteI totally need to make one of these for myself... in actual list form. I have a bad habit of writing "to-dos" in random places... something written on a wrapper from my purse because that's all I could find, two actual sticky notes with a few words, long notes on the Sticky Notes on my desktop with links, a scribble I made on the notepad next to my bed...
ReplyDeletehaha. The ideas are there, they're just... a teeny tiny bit scattered.

I just had to go and look up that poem - I love it! Thank you for mentioning it and bringing it into my life.

I love this so much, Kaelah! I especially love that you included time for yourself. My mom always included time for herself when we were growing up and I never really understood it until I became an adult with responsibilities myself. I'm not a mom yet, obviously, but I can only imagine how much further something small you've done for yourself would go as a mom. You are inspiring! Also on my list of things I want to do is send YOU snail mail <3
ReplyDeleteGirl, this is such a good idea. I used to make to-do lists for the week every Sunday night, and for some reason stopped. Now I'll find myself wasting too much time (kinda the opposite of working too much!) and feeling like I need some direction. Oh, I just read Desiderata and it's beautiful. I'm a semi-new reader and I've never seen you mention it- but I'm glad you did! <3
ReplyDeleteIntention is so important. We can make lists all day but if don't intend to actually follow through, what's the point? There are a few things I am intending to do right now and this post has inspired me even more so to get on the wagon! "You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars." What a beautiful poem, thanks for introducing me to it!
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to make a list like this. I can get so involved in just one thing and completely disregard everything else that either needs to be done or just to do something for me! I hope you'll be able to complete that list

I have always been a list maker because there is so much I want to do. Especially with a little one I need to remind myself of things...I love that you put to do something for yourself everyday. I need to do this!
ReplyDeleteWe are moving at the end of the month, and this sounds like a genius idea to stay sane. I'm gonna have to think of some good mini goals!

Really good list, I particularly like the doing something yourself everyday item. As we always forgot to think about ourselves these days. Might make one for myself :]

Hey, Kaelah! I really like Your list. I seem to be in a rush all the time lately, even though it's the first time in years that I do actually have a lot of free time. But I always seem swarmed and never seem to do what I should for Me, My family, and everyone I love. So, I think I'll take Your list and make one like it, he he!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I've read Your blog for a few years, only recently did I start commenting :$ since I started My blog (again after failed attempts)
I have so many questions and need a lot of advice. Wish You had time for correspondence.
Loads of love, SJay!

This is a really good idea. I need to start something similar and find some more time for myself :)x
ReplyDeletehow come i have not read desiderata before?! brilliant poem!

Hey girl! I love your intentional intentions list! Sometimes its so easy to get super crazed and chaotic. I was captured by your photo in bloglovin, because I had just wrote a post similar to this! Perhaps we're kindreds. Well, it's always a good idea to write out lists of purpose, when you're at your wits end.

Hey girl, I love your intentional "intentions" list! I was captured by the photo of your list on bloglovin, because I just posted a similar one on my blog as well! Perhaps we're kindreds ;) hehe regardless, its so good sometimes to write a list of purpose when you're at your wits end. one bullet point on my weekly intentions list is to remain transparent.

one of my best friend's moms gave me a framed copy of Desiderata and I think I need to start reading it every day! IT is so good! "the universe is unfolding just as it should"
ReplyDeleteThese are super intentions! I should really come up with some of my own :) I am now your newest follower - look forward to reading your future posts!
