I am 110% obsessed with this song and this video. I just can't get over how adorable Taylor Swift is in this. Plus it's a pretty good message, don't you think? (I know there has been a lot of discussion over whether or not it's racist...) I've caught myself replaying it over and over again, dancing with Linden around the house. I think he likes it, too.
The performer in me will never allow me to call myself a Taylor Swift fan, BUT I love how awkwardly adorable she is, as well as being a good role model :) I'm pretty sure we could be good friends.
ReplyDeleteI've had it on repeat for my days......
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I am so in love with this song! I haven't been the biggest fan of her prior stuff but this is totally my jam!! I've been dancing around the house with my cats pretty much nonstop since it was released, haha!!
ReplyDeleteI adore her. If I had a daughter or a son, I'd want them to look up to someone like her. I'm still trying to figure out the racism in this video. I need to google the "research" and see for myself. I think it's adorable.
ReplyDeleteOk so I did my research about the whole "racist thing" online and it seems they are saying since she only has African American women "twerking", and she's dressing like a B-Boy, and trying to twerk in a scene that she's perpetuating a stereotype, but also that people were offended that none of the ballerina's were African American. I'm looking at this video right now, and there are lots of different nationalities offered in EACH scene. There IS an African American ballerina, as well as a few other non-white women, and there are a few white girls twerking in the scene where she's crawling through their legs, and they are lined up, as well as every other scene being full of all different kinds of human beings. Different nationalities, different walks of life, different sizes, it seems to me like the director and Taylor covered most of the bases. I feel like too many people watch a clip and then assume, or don't watch the entire video which is crazy this song makes me SO happy and want to dance, and isn't that the point? Accepting everyone for who they are, what they are and enjoying the time we have together on this planet? *mic drop* ;) Thanks for the cheer girl! I'm going to watch this about 10x! PS The whole point is that Taylor is poking fun at herself (even in the lyrics to the song) clearly she doesn't take herself seriously, why is everyone else?
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to give a HUGE thumbs up to this comment :D
DeleteAgreed with what Kelly said above, I was really happy to see so many body types, dancing (modern dance!), and ethnicities represented throughout the whole video. And also, YES, I am obsessed. Any kind of coordinated group dancing makes me giddy.
DeleteLOVE. THIS.
ReplyDeleteAlso makes me want to cut my hair like hers in the video!
I love it! Although I don't think she can reasonable call herself a country singer anymore. The music video is adorable.
ReplyDeleteNot a Swift fan here. But I herd the racist thing so I watched it now. Really? WTF is wrong with people? Why don't they fight racism where it really exists?
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard this song on the radio I didn't believe that it was Taylor just because I couldn't recognize her voice while it was playing but after a while I could and I love this song. Thanks for posting the video. I love her awkwardness in this video it's so cute and adorable.
ReplyDeleteI love reading white people deciding if something is racist or not. Like, maybe take a seat and just listen to people who are offended?
ReplyDeleteThis!
DeleteI'm with Kelly. I don't know what people were watching to say that her new video has racist anything in it. As a white booty bounce/twerker I think there was an awesome mix in the girls there. Can we also talk about how some of the best twerkers I've ever seen are Russian... so what about that?!
ReplyDeleteShe's just going to shake off this commentary, especially since it is so incredibly unfounded. Sigh. Love me some T Swift.
Dancing is one of the only things that chills Amelia out when she's really riled up. So go for it I say :)
ReplyDeleteI am in love with this song, I have it on repeat every morning, haha! I don't understand how it's racist at all, some people are just looking for things to complain about.
ReplyDeleteI rewatched that Meghan Trainor song, All about that bass, and when you first posted it I thought it was body shaming women who are skinny. But it's quite the opposite! It's all about body love, no matter what size. I have it on repeat, too ;)
I love this song and T. Swift (as much as I hate to admit it!). Sure her songs are not groundbreaking, but they are fun! Sometimes fun is completely underrated. I remember I downloaded her Red album on my phone when my dad was really sick and in the hospital all the time. All the music in my rotation was making me burst into tears, and I kind of needed some fun.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am kind of baffled by all the accusations of racism. I feel like for years pop stars have been appropriating elements of historically black culture and have gotten nothing but respect. Miley and Gwen Steffani are key examples. I think in the video, the point of her dressing up in big hoop earrings and trying to twerk is just illustrating how that is not her...how she is trying different looks and personaes ... and that she can't pull it off. I also feel like by claiming that because she is dressed a certain way that she is somehow trying to make fun of black people is very unfair. I take huge issue with people putting ill intent somewhere where it doesn't deserve to be. There is A LOT of actual legit racism in the world, that's where the focus should be.
I love it! (I still remember our LJ convos over her second album I think?) one with fairytale on I think!
ReplyDeleteI think this is one of Taylor's better songs, though I think she still manages to come off whiney. I also think she should've left the twerking part out, but the discussion on racism has people talking about her, just like they talk about Miley, so I think she got where she intended to get. I'm sure she didn't aim to be offensive, but I agree that her actions are problematic and she probably didn't realize them because of white privilege / blindness, etc.
ReplyDeleteI love it, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletexxx
I LOVE her new song! It's a great message with a fun and upbeat tune. I didn't think it was racist at all. In fact, I loved that there were many nationalities, shapes and sizes. A win for Taylor!
ReplyDeleteI love this song and I agree with Kelly! I can not see how *anyone* would find this video to be racist. Shew lord, people are just looking for anything to get riled up about.
ReplyDeleteThat was just great! Great beat, great message.
ReplyDeleteKaelah.... I was watching Seinfeld tonight and thought of one of your posts !! LOL Love your blog ox Happy weekend
ReplyDeleteI love this song. I'm not that big on Taylor Swift but I do like a couple of her songs. I heard (through twitter, of course) that there was some racism going on and saw screen shots so I went to watch the video and it's the cutest thing! I'm black and I see nothing wrong with the video at all. It's perfectly executed in my opinion and I really don't see what the problem is or would be.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this song so much! The film clip has been getting me through some rough days of study - offering me a good laugh on my breaks! I think it's great that she doesn't take herself too seriously and get so much joy from her music and this video! I don't know whether I want to be her, or be her best friend! xx
ReplyDeleteloved this video! People who say she should have left the twerking out are showing to be racist! white women can't twerk? C'mon it's 2014 and Taylor is adorable in the video (i realle ain't a big fan of her, but it's true!).
ReplyDeleteFirstly, did you change your comments section because I've been reading you for the longest time but haven't been able to comment because of some bug in the system.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this video - the song is a 7/10 but the video is a 10/10 for me. She's so gorgeous and such a good role model for young people I think.
Taylor Swift is the bees knees! I think she seems like a genuinely decent human. also she's so friggin' cute I can't stand it. this song is perfect for happy dancing around the house!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute! Hmmm...not sure about racist >Can't see it. Shake it off. Ha! Thanks for sharing.
