I will be the first to admit, I usually hate cold weather. I loathe it. But something happened the other night... something "magical" if you will. I was driving home from work Friday night and it just started coming a blizzard! Well, about as blizzardly as it can get in Tennessee. It was so beautiful. It was 2:30am and it was blanketing everything around. I walked inside with it all up in my face and I couldn't help but love it. I promptly decided that I'd like to live somewhere snowy. Yep, snowy. Cold weather is so much more bearable when it's beautiful out. [I know some of you get like 7 feet a day and I'll also quickly say that I don't want quite that much! Anyway! I chose this week's Sunday Spotlight based on the beautiful images she shot of people [and snow!] I couldn't find out much about her via her Flickr Photostream and I didn't have enough time to contact her [my own fault] but hopefully I can elaborate on her later! Here are some magical images from the Rowena Waack's Flickr Photostream!
There is something to be said for film cameras and photographers... Nothing digital can hold quite the charm or whimsy like film can. The noise and grain... the shadows... the fuzzy lines... I prefer it over digital any day. It's making me want to go shoot something today!
Be sure to swing by her photostream to check out the rest and 'favorite' the best shots!
Have you ever shot film? What's your media of choice? Can you develop your own film?
I'm glad I'm not the only one that appreciates non-digital pictures. Thank you for posting this blog, I love it! Try and stay warm. <3
ReplyDeleteMy first camera was a second hand Cannon EOS rebel G, which is this wonderful analogue camera that I'm still completely in love with. There is something so tangible and real about film photography, I'm fascinated by it.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about snow! I live in Wisconsin, and It makes everything look absolutely stunning. There is always some excitement when december rolls around because the first snow is so breath-taking.
Although I would live somewhere that is warmer from January-March. In my part of WI we get below zero temps and very little snow for most of the winter. Its horrible.
Those pictures are stunning! They have such a beautiful and subdued personality! Thanks for sharing!
oh my, that photostream is beautiful. why do you always have the best spotlights! :)
ReplyDelete18. INCHES. OF. SNOW. haha, tooo much! But I do love snow, mostly when I don't have to actually go out in it. I'm pretty uncoordinated in snow, and manage to get it inside of my socks, in my face, etc. but luckily hot chocolate is the perfect remedy for being cold. I am not kidding, hot cocoa w/ those tiny little marshmallows..nom nom
ReplyDeletebeing a photo major, film is def my preferred method. i used to develop b&w all the time. never tried color. i don't have the patience and it's such an ordeal, school never had the supplies. i really liked developing 120 film. so much easier! there's nothing like having your hands smell for days like the photo chemicals. :] (even though its terrible for you health.)
ReplyDeleteFilm is definitely my preference, though it's so expensive! In high school I took 3 years of darkroom photography and 1 digital, and I much preferred the authenticity of and dedication it takes to develop and process film.
ReplyDeleteI love these photos! Reminds me a bit of http://staticonthebrain.com/. Thanks for posting xo
ReplyDeleteI used to take photography in school and we developed our own b/w prints. It was a magical process and I loved it so much. I still have a wonderful 35mm camera, but can't find anyone who does quality 35mm printing anymore. It's the pits. I miss using that camera.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are so full of feeling.
